Home prices have increased about 20-30% since this video was posted. It's no surprise that frugal people wouldn't move to Laguna Niguel.

Thinking of buying a home in laguna Niguel. A few questions:
    - Are the HOA’s strict with home renovations/ construction?
    - Are there areas where fireworks aren’t going off? For me that’s on top of my list. I despise fireworks or firecrackers.
    - Are there quiet neighborhoods? (price range $900-$1million). First time buyer.
    - View of the ocean (of possible) or canyon [ lost of greenery/nature]).
    Thanks!

Most HOA's simply want to maintain uniformity. If the renovation or addition is consistent with the flavor of the community and is according to city guidelines and requirements most projects are approved. I work in many neighborhoods where this type of improvement is quite popular and owners are getting approval. Some might be more restrictive but for the most part I believe quite reasonable. As for fireworks they are illegal in the city and almost all surrounding cities for private citizens. There are some displays at the 4th but most are in neighboring cities typically more costal. Dana Point, Laguna Beach and San Clemente as costal communities draw more of a crowd for these displays. I actually don't recall any organized display even on the 4th in the city here. And finally YES! There are many quite neighborhoods here in all price ranges. I usually get more comments it is "TOO QUIET". Let me know when you will be coming and I would be delighted to help you. Yes, there are many many quiet areas. To be honest, a home for 900k to 1m is a bit difficult to find, and you can expect a lot of compromises on size, lot, location, need to update and view. It is an exceptional place to live.

@@movingtolagunaniguel We have had fireworks every year until last year near the lake, and it is quite a show. It was cancelled the last two years and I am pleased with that. Why should we spend money? We are a very fiscally conservative community.

California is much like an island when it comes to oil that is not produced within the state. Not much in the way of oil is shipped via pipeline into the state.
