Could Lunux apps be installed on a USB instead of internal SSD? Because my Chromebook only has 64 GB of storage. I wonder if Linux apps can be installed on an external device?
I don't think this is something that would be possible. However, I've got a Chromebox that has 64GB of storage, and providing you don't keep too many files stored in your downloads folder, you should still be able to have a pretty large Linux install. If you're not installing many Android apps, and prefer to use Linux apps, you can give most of your storage to Linux.

Your Chromebook reaching its AUE date should not stop you updating your Linux apps.
