    Hey Darren, I can't believe how affordable these torches are. I got a new torch i the mail today direct from Sofin, its only a little AA one but still a great torch and it was cheap too. I think I heard about this company from your channel. Anyway hope all is well, take care = )

      Hey Bruce, sofirn do some great value lights. I like them and Wurkkos as they also have charging ports and modern features on their lights. However the range of LEDs they use is quite averagea and usually SST40s. Convoy does many different kinds of LEDs but most their lights don't have charging ports or additional features so there is a trade off.

    Easy access to the internals not only for tinkering, but also good for the environment: with a little manual skills you can replace a broken part, and don't have to throw away an anyway fine product. Maybe other larger manufacturers gives longer bigger warranties (2-5-10 years), but a bit of a headache if you don't have retailer in your country. We have some for in Hungary (Olight, Nitecore, Fenix, Maglite for sure) but not for all. Yes, I know ordering just a replacement glass or switch half way around the globe is not the most environment friendlier act. That's why I ordered all together everything with my, for my S2+ for example. Almost everything what was on stock (switch, rubber button, all types of O-rings, spare glasses, diffuser, carry sheet, etc). If something breaks, I'll fix it.

      Totally, the DIY aspect and how easy it is to modify/fix Convoy light makes them a great option. Nothing is glued in and you don't need special tools to open them up. Some of the other big brands have long warranty periods though.

    I have a C8+ with the Osram KB CSLNM1.14 blue LED. Fun light. On humid nights especially, the be beam is super visible. It’s like a light saber. Completely impracticable-but fun. My kids are always running off with it.

    That L8 beam is crazy intense!
    I liked the M21B you showed, with the white emitter best for an EDC. I have the M21B with a SFT40 emitter and like it quite a bit. I got lucky, my SFT40 lacks the green tint seen in some batches and throws a clean white beam. My favorite Convoy for a combination of throw, spill, runtime, beam intensity and weight is the M21G with a 70.3 Hi emitter. It's not pocketable but it the flashlight I'd keep if I could only have one. Thanks for the nice Convoy comparison Darren!

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Рік тому +1

      Hey Gus, yeah the L8 is over the top haha. Not much from here apart from a 4x sbt90.2 configuration. Yeah I agree, the M21B has enough material for heatsinking and also pocketable. Have to check out the M21G. I just got an M21F in the mail with CULPM1. Similar performance to the M21B but I need to try it with another cell as I think it should throw further!

      @@DarrenYeoYT Hi Darren! You won't be sorry with the M21G. I liked it so much, I ordered two more (for a total of three). The first with an XHP 70.3 Hi 6500K, the second with a GT FC40 4500K and one more with a XHP 70.3 Hi 4000K emitter. Don't get me wrong, if Convoy could improve a few things on this light, I'd give it a 10/10 rating. For now, I'd give it a 8.5/10 rating. Here's what I recommend to Simon going forward for improvements for version 2. Adding a battery power indicator led, adding in-battery USB-C charging, and a small design update on the bezel to eliminate the ring artifact that can be seen outside the spill area. I painted the sloped surface of the stainless steel bezel with matt black paint, which eliminated the intensity of the ring artifact by 95% which made me pretty happy.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Рік тому +1

      You have three of them!? I had a look and they are a bit large for my liking but you'd get a hell of a lot longer runtime. I ordered two smaller lights, an S21B and S2+ with PM1. Think those are great value and would make good review videos too. I notice Convoy don't put charging ports on most their lights, especially smaller ones. And when then do, it's mostly side switch flashlights. I'd like to see them do tactical switch lights with a charging port. I heard it has something to do with the regulation/driver as well. In that ones without charging port can hold brightness for longer and draw more amps.

    Hi, I have the same Convoy S2+ you have in this video, I love the warm light, but I'm not a fan of the spot in the center of the beam, is there an emitter that gives that floody warm beam but with out the hot spot ?

    • @DarrenYeoYT

      Large emitters like the XHP 70.3 paired with a small reflector accomplish that - mostly flood. I also have the Convoy M21H with a diffused TIR lens that also produces mostly flood. Might be able to find warm tints of these LEDS though they mostly come in neutral/cool white.

      The host is also smaller and less effective at dissipating the heat. In my L8, it get HOT
