Pretória, the MOTHER of all African cities! I miss Sunnyside, Barkley square, Arcádia, Menlyn Park, Unisa, Andries street, church street...Union buildings. Receive regards from folks of Angola🌹🙏😁
Thanks for visiting our city. I'm in Akasia, Pretoria North, 20km from CBD. My suburb is on the foot of a historic mountain, Magaliesberg. I wish one day visitors come this side.
It's a pleasure. That's the main campus in Muckleneuk. It is the largest open distance learning institution in Africa. You should go check it out actually, it has a very rich history.
I used to live just up the road from the gautrain station. I stayed in Queenswood and often on Sunday mornings I used to walk /jog up to the union buildings. How loved Pretoria. Will remember it fondly. But I'm back in cape Town again after 6yrs in Pretoria
There was a good chicken Licken place just a block from the Pretoria train station on Kruger St. If you walk straight down on Kruger St like 5 block you would have run into Church Square that have some old magnificent buildings like the Ou Raadsaal. And speaking about good architecture, you could also visit the Vootrackker Monument, not many black people go there since is a White people monument.
Okay, nice! I appreciate the recommendations. I heard about that monument as well. It seemed difficult to access with public transportation. I suppose I could use Uber.
@@AntonsClass Or you could just negotiate a price with one of the taxi guys that operate right outside the Pretoria train station. I am talking about the real taxis not the white ones that have some very crazy people driving them. Stay away from those.
Those "little things 🚙" 5:40 are called taxis, taking a taxi is an adventure on its, from the hands sign that u must make when u stop them depending on where u are going,to sitting in front and counting money for the driver,to the conversation inside, to them stopping anywhere and any anytime , and finally saying "after robot or short left" when u reached ur destination,
The big building in the top of the hill as you come into the Pretoria area is UNISA - the University of South Africa - one of the biggest universities on Earth. It's also one of the oldest correspondence universities, and has a history before that going back to something like 1840 (when it was based in the Cape). They have things like their library, admin, and things like laboratories in Pretoria (but not many lecture theatres). (And the hill is called Muckleneuk Ridge). As a kid I lived for about a year ("one school year") in the less fancy area, down below the Union Buildings hill (I forget what that was called). We were on a busy street we weren't allowed to cross, and there was a park we weren't allowed to play in (because of drug addicts, I think) with a big art gallery in it. The streets up the hill were permitted, though, because the roads were pretty quiet in front of all the fancy houses. I remember we were a bit scared of the Union Buildings - like you'd somehow get into trouble for being there; but over the back might've been some kind of nature reserve. No houses, and open veld with lots of thorn trees in it. Great place to go and play. And then down the bottom of that side of the hill was a less fancy neighbourhood, again. Suburbia, but all the houses were similar and small to medium sized, not like the huge places up on the other side of the hilltop. They might have been government housing or railway houses. (As kids the size of the places didn't make that much of an impression. The places that made an impression were more likely to be those with guardhouses at the gate - which again looked like you could get into trouble for looking at too long.) I don't know what games we played over the back of the hill. Probably just threw stones at things, and broke bottles if we could find any. That kind of thing. What we really wanted to do was cross that busy street we weren't allowed to. There had to be something interesting on the other side, surely.
Regarding the bad uber experience, the uber-driver might have driven off because he feared being harassed or attacked by private taxi drivers! So it's a terrifying "taxi-territorial " matter; he did not abandon you deliberately! (Indeed, the despised and sad state of affairs in south africa! ) Certain private taxis claim certain pick-up areas as their own. (Which is illegal!)
I love the art...the ONLY thing that saddened me in the museum was the depiction of Noah being a white man...if we are going to be BIBLICALLY CORRECT./.he was, INDEED a black man that suffered vitiligo. We KNOW this because his father, LAMECH, declared that his skin was white like the FALLEN angels and he was frightened. A RIGHTEOUS ANGEL (Not white) had to come to Lamech and assure him he was NOT of fallen angel blood lineage (as MANY were of that time which is WHY THE MOST HIGH FLOODED THE EARTH...MINGLED seed) One of Noah's children was ALSO afflicted with vitiligo, Japheth...Shem and Ham were WELL MELINATED, as they are NOW. Once our people on the continent UNDERSTAND and ACCEPT THIS and that we've ALL BEEN BAMBOOZLED (Like the book of Macabees SAID we would be fooled due to the HEATHEN that would LAY OPEN THE BOOK OF THE LAW (SCRIPTURES) and DRAW THEIR LIKENESS...Yup, it's in there, which is why they removed it, THAT BOOK) The WHOLE GAME WILL CHANGE... Right now, OUR PEOPLE see THOSE PPL as the like image of GOD, and NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. FOR THEY are in the IMAGE OF GOD and THOSE 'others" are of "other" seed....which is why they've been able to commit such atrocities, hatred, theft, etc...all across the land. For the scriptures TELL US the world would be in the hands of the WICKED but for a time. HOWEVER, in case you haven't SEEN or FELT IT...Their time is UP.
Pretoria is in reality the Capital city of SA coz it's the seat of government. Cape Town is legislative Capital. Joburg commercial capital. Same with Nigeria. Has two capitals Lagos and Abuja although Abuja is main capital as it hosts seat of government. Question is why did SA historically decide to split cabinet and parliament? GO BACK TO SA HISTORY BEFORE AND UP TO 1910 when union of South africa was formed by two foes ( British and Dutch descendants). Anglo- boer War(British - afrikaaner War) gave rise to a split as to which territory became more British and Dutch!
Joburg is technically the commercial city, but isn't in one of three capitals. Bloemfontein is the judicial capital city + Pretoria and Cape Town #WeAreOneSA🇿🇦
We don't have a thing called a commercial Capital We have the Administrative Capital - Pretoria Legislative Capital - Cape Town Judicial Capital - Bloemfontein
The cab/Uber driver that took off from you was he white or one of the other lighter nations...? Bc you know they have a cast system there where they will even get out of an elevator if a black person gets on...
@jewel niles you should not believe everything you hear 🤷🏽♂️. What cast system have you experienced here? I don't think you have ever been to South Africa. Some of your social constructs are not universally applicable. We do not have a cast system like in some other parts of the world. A person can be horrible, and that is not determined by whether you are black or white. We fought against Apartheid, and we will not tolerate any segregation.
