  • The Colca Canyon is a stunning area near Arequipa, Peru, where you can see condors, swim in the pools at the Sangalle Oasis, and hike down into the 3rd deepest canyon in the world.
Trekking the Colca Canyon is moderately difficult, but you can go at your own pace and spend time enjoying the bottom of the canyon. This is all about the hike itself, the accommodations and the bottom of the canyon, the food along the way, the wildlife we saw, and what it cost us to book with a tour company and have a guide.

good thing you guys didn’t go to the “recommended” buffet, it was obviously a tourist trap and wasn’t worth the 35. i highly suggest you bring your own food in case they bring you to the buffet place

Yes, it’s definitely more expensive and geared for tourists. Bringing your own food might be difficult as you go on the way back and you’ll have just been hiking the Colca Canyon for a few days. But the town has many restaurants around the main square with much lower prices and just a short walk from the “tourist buffet”.

Nice share guys! We are likely missing this trek when we are in the area next month, but it is on our agenda for the carbon-neutral drive around the World. We are a father and son who travel the World to plant trees, clean beaches and teach people about culture, history, and natural wonder. Glad to find your stuff and hope you might like ours too. -Turtle

Hi. Was altutude a factor for this trekk? And for your backpacks, what did you need to bring? Because of neck problems for me , I can not carry anything heavy, but I have my boyfriend 🥰
Your video was very helpful. Thanks

We were at about 8000 ft. We didn’t have any issues with the altitude. Though the drive between the Colca Canyon and Arequipa goes quite high.
For backpacks, we brought our water bottles, simple toiletries, backpacking towel, and clothes. You’re given a place to stay and 3 meals a day. Snacks and drinks can also be purchased.

I took the same tour. You might be able to get it for 75 instead of 90 not sure. But the nice thing was i had hot water in my shower in the oasis. Strong Sunscreen and hat is super important. The most direct sun exposure ive ever had on a hike in the first day. Also this company only requires a 25% deposit up front. I didn't pay close attention to the notice. That might not be a plus for everyone.

      Awesome!
I think it was $75 for the 2 day, one night. We did the 3 day trek though so it was a bit extra. The hot shower and the swimming pools in the oasis were amazing!
Yes, strong sun protection is so important.

Hey Chris and Emilie!! I am looking into booking a COLCA CANYON tour! It freaked me out a bit to see that there are scorpions! Is this common? Also, which tour did you use? Thank you for the tips!
