Can you imagine Tony Levin's career, he is been around the globe with all the big boys. Recording with Lennon, Gabriel, ABWH, KC, etc etc just him and his Bass Guitar. How good life can be(I guess)
I just saw Tony play Friday night with the Levin brothers! I have had a wonderful experience of seeing him a dozen times with four different bands the last three years
I recall an interview a very long time ago where Tony Levin used a three string bass and he said, "I can get all the notes I need to out of three strings." I guess he abandoned that.
Also, the song name is an anagram of "heat in the jungle", which is a reference to crime in the city. The spoken word portion is Adrian's account of going out on the streets of N.Y. trying to get inspiration for the song. Robert Fripp started to record Adrian's account of running across a few gang members who thought he was a cop because he was talking into a tape deck. He tried to explain what he was doing but they weren't buying it.
Adrian Buh-loo with the accent on the second syllable, almost like the word 'blue." Another deep rabbit hole from a prolific genius. Zappa->Bowie->Talking Heads->King Crimson->everywhere. Jane went deep on this one - great choice. I hope they tour again. The Security Project, with Peter Gabriel's first drummer Jerry Marotta and former King Crimson touch guitarist Trey Gunn is another great band. I don't know if Peter's first keyboardist, Larry Fast, is still with the band, but they still tour, mostly playing Peter's music with some Kate Bush tunes. Again, all very nice people.
When you check out "the original version," ~~~ Keep in mind that's a *quartet* !! That was just as complex and powerful live as in the studio version.....
I saw Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison in Chicago and Detroit this summer with their Talking Heads Remain in Light tour, and both played a solo tune. It was a Talking Heads-heavy audience who didn't really know "Thela Hun Ginjeet" and in both shows it didn't go down well. It's a great tune but it wasn't a good choice. Adrian should have done one of his solo tunes. I recommend "Men in Helicopters" from the Young Lions album. Adrian is very outspoken in his lyrics about conservation efforts and saving the planet from ruin, and this is a great example.
L33: Tony Levin's own invention, two tiny drumsticks attached to his fingers, called FunkFingers. Both those trios are insane on their own; together? A force of nature. You reacted to it just like I did. Great, great music by players at the very TOP echelon.
I saw this show with my son, well not THIS show but the one at the Corona Theatre in Montreal in 2011; second row center. Same tour. Same fun. The Three of a Perfect Trio tour. Very apt, 2 of my favourite bands doing a third favourite band. If Stickmen or The Adrian Belew Power Trio ever tour near you, see them while you can!
Tony Levin is the bass player that was on stage with Peter Gabriel on your your recent reaction to In your eyes. A hell of a musician, just next to Chris Squire and Genesis’ Mike Rutherford in my private pantheon of bass heroes.
The half of the band on the left side of stage is Tony Levin's band called Stick Men. I think you would really like them. They have their own UA-cam channel with several songs of them in concert. They are called Stick Men because Tony plays the Chapman stick which is both a guitar and bass (8, 10, or 12 strings) and Markus Reuter plays his tapping guitar which also has bass and guitar strings. Their song Cusp might be a good place to start, but most of their songs are great. If you get a chance to see Stick Men live, it is totally worth it. And they hang around afterwards and they will talk with you for a while and you can even have your picture taken with them for FREE!. Tour dates are on their website.
@@janewells5970 I was disappointed to see they weren't coming back to Columbus, Ohio. I saw TUner at the end of August, but it's not quite the same. They were awesome, but I want to see Stick Men again. They were going to come but COVID canceled that concert.
@@skatter44 I saw them three times last year. I’m going to see them twice in February and March. They’re playing in Pittsburgh and Delaware. The place in Pittsburgh is awesome it’s called this is red.
Dude every KC album is like a different painting.. it's actual art. And how you view it and where you are in life where you view it all depends on your opinion on it. I've been mass introduced to all of their material... I can't imagine how it was waiting a year or two between projects back in the day. These guys are one of a kind.
This is essentially two groups -- Stick Men and Adrian's Power Trio. For a while back 10-20 years ago you could almost bet at any given moment that one of the two groups would be touring somewhere nearby.
Was fortunate enough to see them live here in Paris. Absolutely fan-fuck!ng-tastic! I love when bands successfully incorporate spoken lyrics, too. Check out some songs by O.S.I., a totally interesting sort of super group formed by a member of Fates Warning, with a couple of members of Dream Theater, among many others.
Thela Hun Gingeet sounds like a kind of tribal language and has a definite rhythmic call to it, but it's actually an anagram for The jungle heat and is a Belew autobiographical recollection of going out into the NYC streets late one night and wanting to record with a tape deck city sounds and running into some nefarious trio who thought he was a narcotics agent come to get some sort of evidence about them believe it or not. The song is primarily in 4/4 time while Fripp plays in 7/8 time. On the KC studio recording which gives the song that tilted something ain't right atmosphere.
Jeff Berlin, an amazing bassist who has recorded with Bruford, among others, was filling in for Tony Levin on bass the night the ABWH show was recorded. One of my favorites!
Check out "The Sheltering Sky" from 1982 with Belew, Levin, Buford, and Fripp: ua-cam.com/video/n0XSOKQDHTU/v-deo.html Also, Levin, Belew, Vai, and Carey (from Tool) will tour this fall doing 1980s King Crimson stuff!
Just wanted to see if anybody reviewed this yet. I’m 60, seen king crimson, maybe 100 other bands live. If you’d want suggestions, I have a lot that no one else has reviewed
We need to start a go fund me, so we can send Lee to camp. Tickets go on sale this week! It always sells out.

I did not know about the anagram. Thanks!
Yeah, he was giving a raw account of what he just experienced not realizing thela hun gingeet was being recorded.

Peter Gabriel came up with the idea for the FunkFingers and Tony refined the design.

Drummer with glasses & goatee is Pat Mostelotto. He’s Buford’s successor.
Pat was a session musician, then in Mr. Mister prior to joining Crimson
He actually played with Bruford in King Crimson. That’s when they created double trio
Bruford chose him for Thrack - the odd double-trio album. And passing of the torch while playing together speaks volumes.
Wow. Incredible.

Watch king crimson play this song on the show Fridays.
If you want a fun song... try "Sing Child" or "Cook with Fire" by Heart.

Or "Ptolemy" by Blue Murder! 🙂
Just listen to the original version. Way better than this. Even Fripp said so.
