Here’s what I would consider:
1) Moving can be very stressful (it’s one of life’s biggest stressors behind death, divorce, and job loss). The thing is that moving can provide months worth of new content for your channel, so it might be worth it for that reason alone.
2) When it comes to weighing budget vs mental health, mental health should always win because if it suffers, your work can suffer (and your income may take a hit).
3) Maybe there are other ways to make up for the additional rent. Have you spoken with your account about being able to write off your moving expenses and part of your rent due to the nature of your work? Maybe it’s time to release your digital to-do list collections. Have you thought about teaching online classes about being a social media personality, vlogging, editing, making thumbnails, etc.? You are very talented (you don’t give yourself enough credit) and resourceful, and I know that there are plenty of ways you can bring in a little more money if necessary.
4) If you do prefer the less expensive and smaller option, I’m a degreed interior designer who specializes in space planning and I will totally help you create a dedicated workspace in whichever apartment you choose (I won’t charge you for my time or services). I feel like staying at the current one would be my choice. Moving is stressful and expensive, plus your mental health is super important. I think its also important to take into consideration the impact on your finances your declining mental health would have.. like would it cost more for therapy, will you be able to work less and therefore earn less, etc.

Girl unless it’s substantially cheaper per month, stay where you are! The costs of moving with far outweigh what you would save if a place is a couple hundred cheaper per month. Your place now is so cute & there would be no moving stress!
I don’t have any kind of office space in my apartment & when I toured different apartments- I would have to spend nearly double to get more space (even like a den or something) so personally I feel like the $250 is sooo worth it for that work space!!! Also if you like the management, that’s better than the unknown hahaha! 🫶🏼 good luck! The other one is so cute so whatever you do will be great!!

True, my current apartment is 1 bedroom and doesn't technically have a separate workspace room. However, the living room is a good size/ layout so Im able to have a workspace on one side and living space on the other side.

i definitely think you should consider having a space for you desk. I was literally in the same boat and ended up choosing an apartment with a space for my desk. I couldn’t stand having to work at my table so i totally get it!!

I can tell that you love your apartment now, and I have enjoyed all the content being in this apartment. It’s funny as a viewer because you feel like we are your roomates just not physically. I can tell that you love the option you are presented with but I agree. There could be a lot of potential fees that could outweigh the positive of moving, but if your current apartment is raising rent then it’s one of those things that I don’t see the hurt in moving somewhere else. I personally have learned that moving somewhere new is fun and fresh for me because I can get bored easily. Yes there can be comfort in staying with what you know but I think from what I have seen your stage of life as. (We are the same age) I think moving would benefit you even if it presents challenges and is uncomfortable. Love you forever girl and so proud of how you have grown. I liked apartment #4 - I liked the first one with the grey kitchen. It seemed to have a good flow. The grey cabinetry was a really pretty aesthetic. The incentives seem pretty good too. It's basically 2 months free rent....

Apartment #5 is BY FAR my favorite one and its so gorgeous, I love that it has a walk-in shower. I would love to have an apartment with a walk on shower if it didnt cost a pretty penny (especially that particular unit).

I think that depending on how much your current apartment increases your rent that will let you know the most whether you should move or not and if they increase it by a lot a lot then even the apartment that you like the best which was the first one on the second day might be like a better option than your current apartment if they increase the rent by a lot. Obviously by this point you already have probably made a decision but honestly dude even if it ends up seeming like the wrong decision, it's only for a year😂 we got your back always🎉❤

Hey, I lived in a brand new apartment building a few years ago and the first year I did have a lot of issues, but this is my third year and it’s way better. I am slightly downsizing in a few months, but also moving closer to where I want to be. I know it’s a hard decision, but do what feels best!
Hi Keegan! I actually live in apt #2! I love the location of the apartment, but if you don't get the updated apartment the washer and dryer are old (we had problems with the washer staining my white clothes) but it's very dog friendly and a lot of our age (I'm 24) people live here, on the weekends it does get loud with people partying in units/pool area
and maintenance doesn't keep up with things ): we had our balcony leak water (whenever that huge storm happened) and it still is not fixed

I really enjoyed this video! New viewer here but I am an Arizona native. I was just in Scottsdale looking for an apartment as we are moving back from Colorado and saw some of these apartments as well. I agree with someone else that said your mental health is more important vs $200, so I would say if you can, do what is best for your mental health.
I toured some near Osborn right next to Old Town and then a couple near South Scottsdale and one near SFS. But we decided on one that was a little more that sits in central Old Town. Super walkable and has huge security features which is important to me to (I just like to be safe). I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do! 🌼🙂
Moving is stressful, but sometimes change is exactly what we need and adds a little excitement!
With not having an office space you could occasionally use the apartments lounge area or office area (if they have one). Truly separate yourself from home and work. Usually no one is in those areas so you could still film.
On another note, add up how much moving itself will cost and subtract that from the two months free you will get from apartment #4. Moving can be expensive, but there are ways to make it cheaper.
You could rent a small truck for the day (since you’re moving in town). Use family and friends and pay with a pizza party or whatever meal and load and unload truck yourself?
I’m excited for whatever choice you make! Adulting is hard and expensive 🫠

For the apartment complex with the discount offer I would think of it as 2 months free out of the 12 months (since you said 1 month free and 2 half months). So to figure out a monthly average for that one take the full monthly rate X 10 and than divide that by 12(assuming that the lease would be 12 months)
Yes!! I did that and added moving expenses and that’s how I got the $200 a month. I think the actual rent price is closer to $400 a month but when you add up the moving costs and everything it came to around $200

I love 3 & 5 as my option. I want some condo so I can do some crafting and my things to do that I want to do but sometimes I have to wait for that option. I really want to move into some place that I can do in my future.

I still think you should go with apt 3, but is there any way you could move out and do something fun like rent a local Airbnb or stay with your parents and move your stuff to storage for a few weeks until your apt is ready? The Airbnb idea might be way too expensive, but maybe you could treat yourself to a very quiet desert retreat for a few weeks before starting your new chapter in life.

Had to come back to this video. This was such a good video. We moved to a "Viral" Apartment building in Downtown Phoenix (just opened in September), though we originally opted for a small boutique apartment (one of the ones you showed in this video actually- we liked it so much and the office was nice). Well, we decided to go with this apartment in PHX and while brand new had so many problems, but the office staff has made it so difficult for us here, we got really depressed. We have been here two months, and while it looks super beautiful, the office staff have made it a nightmare. We are paying $4,000 a month for a two bedroom, granted it has some extras, but also $150/ month for each car. It is hard. We are now saving to cough up $10,000 to break our lease. The apartments in Scottsdale are cute and in my opinion we found the staff to be incredibly nice at most of them. Thanks for this video, it will help us circle back before we break our lease!
I always have to renew my apartment because I can’t really afford to move out because it’s so expensive and living in Canada and it’s so pricey
I think that $250 is a lot of money and that having a desk space is also important. If you have the option to do a month-to-month lease and give a 60-day notice at any time that would be the best. You would have more time to weight out pros and cons and apartments open up throughout the year so you may have different options. I think its interesting that it comes down to the same two apartments again. Major con: no more cute boy next door. You would definitely have to shoot your shot before you move.

A note on the one that was open for a year then was sold, it was probably owned by a developer and then sold which is always the goal! So probably nothing to worry about!
I also live in AZ and lived in Scottsdale, currenlty on the west side but i think it might be best to stay where you are if you like where you are at and if it makes the most sense in regards to your mental health. Moving is stressful, exactly why i am staying put although rent is cheaper elsewhere, but my family is on this side to help with my daughter.
I used to live in Apartment 1 and really enjoyed the vibe there, Scottsdale definitely has a lot of fun things to do. However my lease was up and because I work remotely I decided to move to San Diego. The prices are about the same and the quality of life is So much better. The ocean, people, weather, culture is more my style. The heat became unbearable and my allergies were horrible in Arizona. But ASU is a great school!
i would LOVE to live in san diego!! i had no idea was comparable prices. i would have honestly moved there if i knew that. last year i looked and it was about a thousand more but that was also at the peak of rent prices

I would personally stay at your current apartment. The space is bigger and you’re pretty settled in. Apartments are getting smaller and more expensive in Arizona. It would be cheaper in the long run to stay at your current apartment despite the difference in rent prices. Knowing you’ll even save yourself the stress of packing and unpacking would be more than enough reason to stay for me 😅
I would stay in current place if rent doesn’t go up to much! Having the space is nice! ❤ working from home myself I love my designated desk area!! Couldn’t give that up!

Personally, I think staying in your current place would be the best move. You decorated it, you’re used to the area and amenities … but if you decide (because it is ultimately whatever makes you the happiest), I like 4.
Keegan, I think mental health should prioritize over finances. If the complex doesn't have work spaces in the building then I say renew, you can always figure out how to make more money to offset the rent increase. But mental health is a journey, if you feel like your desk contributes to that, then I say renew. During the next year, tour apartments that would be available for move-in once next year's lease ends.
Back when I rented, I lived in two brand new apartments and it was absolutely the BEST decision I ever made both times. In my opinion, it’s the only way to go.
I think money is important here since everything is just going up and up. There are ways to have a office space that you can hide away. So that when you need to work it’s all an office and when you need to be “home” you tuck it away and don’t have to see it. You can get a desk that hangs from the wall or a desk that looks like a really beautiful cabinet but opens up into a desk. There are options! Good luck and whatever decision you make will be the right one for you! Try not to stress too much about it. You dont always have to make the perfect decision or choice ❤
Hello from the Philippines Keegan! I think you should consider above all your mental health first. So I would say that staying in your current apartment would be a nice move--and it saves you from the stresses of moving in and out and the expenses that come with--plus the idea of you having to buy other decors and furniture for the new apartment :D
You could stay in your place and avoid all this stress. Or you could move and have an adventure and take on the uncomfortable growth and probably generate lots of content in the process. Here for you either way

I know saving that amount of money would help my mental health!! So I see more pros with that especially if your rent increases. I think you could probably find a space to have a desginated working area or maybe have your vanity that’s in your room currently be converted to a working desk or vanity when you need it to be!? :)

Honestly... I say save the money and try to downsize your desk if you can, Or perhaps once you move in youll be able to re arrange things and make it all work.

A good way to figure out if your saving money each month or not by moving is buy dividing the security deposit and fees (which is sometimes a little sometimes a lot) by 12 and then add that to the rent you would be paying at the new one and see if that’s more or less than what you pay now
Yes!! I did that and it also added moving costs and moving supplies and that’s how I got to the $200 a month. I think the actual difference in rent is 300 or 400 but not when you add in all the extra expenses.
If the rent increases too much then I say move 🤔 If you want a designated work space maybe you can add some sort of desk area in the living room or this might sound crazy but use a section of the closet as an office nook if you get the unit with the bigger walk in closet (it looks like a big size but I'm unsure how much of the space you'll actually need for clothes)

I totally hear you on this dilemma!! But my two cents would be to go with mental health. Saving money won’t matter if you not I’m a good headspace in the long run. I’m surprised that your apartment complex has an elevator (I haven’t seen that thus far been here since 2020) so I thought it was a Phoenix thing 😮 definitely go with the option where you also feel safe because of the 2 points you’ve clearly stated. I had to move to a new apartment last year because of a large rent increase. I live in Albuquerque, and the rents here are just horrible. However, I did find a really nice apartment that was cheaper and bigger. The only bad thing was that it did not have an in unit laundry. There is a laundry room just down the hall so I’ve gotten used to it now, but I do miss it sometimes. I also went through the whole 60 day notice thing. It’s so nerve-racking, because most complexes will not hold an apartment for you for 60 days. Let me add that I do not understand all of these new apartments that don’t have a proper dining room space. Maybe I’m just old.😊

Coming from a perspective of someone who works at apt complexes, it’s not a bad sign if they get bought out by another company and are under new management, the market is crazy out there with big managements adding to their portfolio

I live in old town. In a new complex. Last year they raised the rent $300 month on me 😢. If they raise it a lot again I will be in same boat as you looking for a new place. I love my place because I do have a garage it’s $200mo 😮 but my apt is right across hall from garage. Honestly wait and see what your complex does. If they raise yours a lot and you do t want to stay if pick the one you liked the best. Money comes snd goes. But this is where you spent the most of your time. You should love it. I’d rather not buy some shoes or clothes and have a amazing apt. Just my thought.

I think if moving would save you $250 a month, possibly more if your current place increases the rent, it could be worth it. In terms of splitting work/home spaces, you could even see if there's a co-working space nearby you could go to a few days a week that would be like your 'office', but I don't actually know how much those cost to go to/if that would work for you. I think seeing what your current place is increasing the rent by will be the deciding factor as it could be better just to stay in your current space for another year and truly get settled
I have been working from home for 12 years. I always prioritize my mental health over cost. It is important for me to have a separate office space that allows me to separate my work from personal time.

That first apartment gives me that hotel feel to it. It looks small and cramped. 2nd one is nice. Apartment 5 with white cabinets looks nice. White cabinets are still popular. When you buy a brand new house, it's like $20k more just for white cabinets. Why not just stay where you're at? I lived in an apartment with a roommate and then bought a house. My house is about 2.5x larger than my apartment. It took a week to adapt because I was walking farther from room to room but it was worth it. My cousin lives with me and I rent that room for $400.

You are effectively touring both a home and an office. If you didnt work from home a smaller apartment is fine. But you are looking for a workspace as well. Being able to shut off (as best as one can) your worklife when you are trying to relax is really important for your mental health and having a designated work area can help. Obviously a separate room is normally the beat option because you can physically close the door but thats not always an option budget wise.
I would prioritise mental health over money (if it is still within your livable budget) because your paece of mind is worth more than a couple hundred dollars a month. Its like if $20 a week on coffee makes you more at peace for the day and happy and you can afford it, it is helping your mental health.
If $50ish a week to have a separated desk for work helps your mental health that comes first. Obviously if someone cant afford it different story.
1. Budget (dont exceed it) and saftey
2. Needs for an apartment (and workspace)
3. Metal health (kind of tie with 2)
4. Wants (amenities, 2nd bedrooms etc).
I know you will make the right choice for you. Sidenote: my crewneak has arrived in Aus now just needs to make it's way to my house.
How do you work in libraries? Does Arizona have cheap co-working spaces? I think the smaller move would only be worth if you could supplement that office space with something cheaper than the 250!
I wouldn’t move if you don’t have to! Moving is stressful but also saving money is a good thing too. If you think you can make it work, I’d stay❤
Think of the space to cost ratio. $250 less for the smaller apartment. But will you have enough space for your lists and things? If not how much will a storage unit to hold materials be? Now time and gas to drive to pick up materials when you’re packing orders? Will all of your furniture go in it nicely or will you have to replace anything? All of these things I feel like aren’t really worth the pay drop. Moving is a hassle and with your mental health on the line as well as future potential issues with growing your business in a smaller space I personally would probably just stay with your current apartment.
We have the exact same.concerns. 😔 Also, people dont understand it but change plays a huge role in mental health stability. You can't always stay in the same place no matter how comfortable it currently feels. Plus saving money over 2 or 3 years will definitely outweigh moving cost. In my opinion...
If they increase rent by a lot i would definitely move and maybe find a work/ study space outside of the apartment.

If your apartment is not going up too much, like so much that it is out of budget, I think you should heavily consider staying.
Have you considered negotiating with your current landlord for a cheaper rent? Since there are so many apartments available, I would think they would want to keep a good tenant versus the unknown of an empty apartment or a troublesome tenant. You could be honest with them and tell them you found an apartment that you really like for $250 less a month but you would rather stay where you are. It’s worth a try and the worse that can happen is they say no.😊
Wow 60 days notice, I only have to give 30 days for either lease renewal or moving out for my apartment.

Sometimes it's not enough! I've had it where I tried to tour places on my days off only for them to be taken off the market because someone applied for it! Happened way to many times.
Didn't help that I worked 5-6 days a week and was in school and don't drive. So that contributed to the places and areas I was looking in my price range.
I found something that I thought was great only to find out it was one of the worse places Ive lived! And took 2 years to save enough to be able to have something happen right before I was ready to move again so the money I saved for moving got cut in half! Then I was told I couldn't renew my lease because they wanted to start renovating the apartments they gave me 2+ months and I again barely found something in time!
It was a better place but then 2020 happened and the area ended up being worse then I thought even though it was like 4 blocks from the last place I had. It just became unsafe and I had to move back home 3+ hours away because they were going to increase my rent so much that it was crazy especially for how the area was then.
Anyways 60 days can seem like a lot especially when you find and get approved right away!
That's happened a few times for me but the not finding a place in time especially when places take forever to do all the credit checks and whatnot. One time they couldn't get hold of a prior apartment I had like 4 years before and they wouldn't rent to me because of it! I'm like that was 7 years ago! Turned out the owner/landlord died it was a duplex apartment. And the house was sold and made back into a single family home!
They ended up calling me 2 weeks after I moved into a different place that ended up being one of the horrible places I had!
I just wish you could do your own credit check thing and references from previous places you've rented. and give it to them when you look at the place and then they decide right then to rent to you or not.
