hello really great work you did with the history and the old videos of Riyadh, I just wanted to correct one piece of information: Riyadh METRO was not part of the VISION2030, as the vision was announced in 2016 the metro plan was approved in 2009.
One of the most high-profile ventures in Vision 2030 is the $500 billion mega-city Neom, which will combine sustainability, futurism, tourism and innovation.
Elie Sharbiah from Al Mabani the co tractor for BACS with CCC has his relative from Australia both maroni labanese were treating Muslim Lebanese badly and they thieved the KSA government . They should be jailed for corruption together with Saed Al Khouri of CCC worked overseas evade TAX should all be investigated properly by International Anti Corruption Organization but not KSA Nazaha for thieving KSA. Together with their solicitors Turki Meshari in Hay Sulaymainah in Riyadh who bribed Members of Ministry of labour to defend not to pay the professional member of staff his rights. This was communicated to Transparency organisation in UK so as the City Police in London. This is fact and full documents available for any organisation interested in bringing these corruptors to justice and bring Bachtel the corrupted company to justice too. Bachtel , KBR thieved Iraq too but no body investigated these American Companies .
Who came up with the layout of the grid? Do these people have any experience riding public transport? They had a blank space to develop the Metro and decided for one of the most inefficient way to design it. With this layout you need to change at least two times (not including getting to your final destination from the metro station) to get to most parts of the city. With the huge urban sprawl of Riyadh it will take you over an hour to get to most places. A smart system would be that of Vienna. Basically every line crosses every other line once. That way you only have to change once for most of your trips and can be in 80% of the city in under 30 minutes. They had basically infinite resources and an empty grid and came up with this? I am sorry but this is embarrassing. I hope they will fix it in the future. What an incredible waste of resources and money.
Wrong comparison ! First off, let's get the basics straight.Riyadh spans an impressive area of 600 square miles while Vienna covers 160 square miles. When it comes to population, Riyadh has 7.6 million people, whereas Vienna houses around 2 million residents. The Vienna Metro dates back to 1898 that's 126 years ago! This means the entire urban landscape of Vienna has been developed with metro accessibility in mind, making public transportation a cornerstone of city planning. Contrast that with Riyadh, which experienced its significant construction and expansion boom starting in the 1960s. Over the past 60 years, Riyadh has grown with the assumption that clearly everyone owns a car, making the city highly car-dependent. The introduction of the Riyadh Metro (started construction on 2014) as the most challenging projects the city has ever undertaken, with many skeptics doubting its success. But guess what? Real estate developers are now aggressively looking for land near the new Metro stations. This complex blend of an old city adapting to new infrastructure shows the remarkable shift happening in Riyadh. The Riyadh Development Authority is now facing a challenge in making the Metro accessible and user-friendly for everyone, but they are on the path to success. Just as Vienna's metro system has become an integral part of the city, Riyadh's Metro is poised to transform the urban experience for its residents.
@AhmedAbdullah-rm7rb your point takes nothing away from the argument I made. Of course it will be a massive improvement to the city that is obvious and was not what I was pointing to. What I was arguing about is that it could have been way better. It just seems incredibly short sighted to me and this is something I observe all over the Golf States. You have massive resources but spent them so unwise. It is just sad to see. If you would take more time and be patient and intelligent in planing I believe you could achieve at least ten times as much in the long run with the same amount of resources. Look at Dubai. The whole city is constructed with a 20th century car focus. Today this is just an outdated idea of urban living. The city is basically already outdated and I would not be surprised if we see it collapse soon.
I have one point that you made that i meed to address, you say blank space as if the city was a desert when they started planning the metro system, when in fact it was a well established city with no consideration for a metro system prior to 2012 and still its an expanding growing city with its outskirts changing yearly, consider that the project is expandable and also consider thats its been accomplished to this very satisfying degree in a mere 10 years after starting the work on it, where all the lines are now nearly fully operational except a few stations and all launched in less than month simultaneously
@@majed4708 please read carefully before making a point. I wrote empty "grid" not empty "space" which applys to the non-existence of a public transport system before the start of the project. This is (as the comment before pointed out) a different situation than expanding an existing network (like Vienna today). In most cases comparing European metro systems with newly built on the factor of time is a logical fallacy. If you check the history of public transport systems in Europe most of them where also build in 10 to 20 years and than later expanded. So the incredible build up of metro systems in China (which is a great achievement and deserves great respect) is not that much different from the build up of metro systems in Europe between 1950 and 1980. Today the infrastructure is already built so there is little use in building more new systems. And again it is respectable that the Metro was built. This was never part of the critic. If anything you should ask why they didn't start with the project 30 years ago? The point I was making is that you had a unique situation (building a metro from scratch) in a time where you can study hundreds of other systems in the world from which you could have learned from. But apparently that didn't happen and instead they focused and building fast and shiny like it is done in the Golf States most of the time.
please remember that this is the first stage of the metro so comparing it to an already completed system is an invalid comparison. yes there is a lot of blank spaces to be filled especially the west side of riyadh which as of now has no metro points. but the main point of it now is to help people reach there work places without facing the crazy traffic in the morning & evening rush hours and i personally greatly benefited from it, using it i have reduced my daily commute time by 60% a full hour going and another hour and a half returning and my spending on fuel was reduced by 80% so take me and my collages who have switched to using it daily as an example to get a clear picture on how life changing it is. they already announced a new lane that covers a lot of new areas and more to come in the future, if u want to do a fair comparison it has to be done on a first stage basis not a completed or a metro system that has already advanced.
