I haven't watched the video, so I'm just going to say my own thoughts here on dans - maybe someone else explains the things I am going to say already but I'll go on anyway. - Dans are a very rough estimation of skill, it kind of gives you a general idea of how good someone is but 99/100 of the time it doesn't do it too well. Each map in the dan (at least the main ones that everyone plays, the DDMythical ones) represents one skillset, but each one of those skillsets has its own branch. For example, the first map in the course is Jack. But jack has a lot of different types of its own patterning. In delta dan, the jack map is Aquaris 1.3x rate, which is primarily speedjack without a lot of stamina required. It has free-acc for around half of the map until it suddenly diffspikes, the actual hard part happening. It becomes an issue when there's only one type of patterning that represents the whole pattern (I don't know if that makes sense, but we ball.) Someone could get a 96 on Aquaris 1.3x rate and then they could say they're around delta jack but they might be incredibly biased on speedjack, and their other jack skillsets like chordjack, anchor, density etc etc could be very weak. The same in gamma dan, where the jack map is Break 1.1x, primarily chordjack stamina focused. Someone could say they are around gamma jack but they might be incredibly weak in other types of jack like I listed before. This applies to essentially every other skillset in the dan course, this is the main issue with dans, they only cover one skillset per skillset, when each skillset has their own branch of skillsets. (I am saying skillsets a lot I just realized) Dans are not the end-all-be-all of determining someone's skill. (i am feeling really rambly today oopsies)

But I actually really like the concept of dans, I think they are a really cool concept and put a extra challenge for players to strive towards.

Some people already comment about some aspects of how dans work as a whole (Some people have issues with how you have to play maps back to back when others argue that they shouldn't) so some would rather not utilize it. Their opinions are valid as dans shouldn't be used as the all in one solution to improvement as there is no one size fits all for people however, it simply aims to be a great way to set goals/improvement/gauge. Not to mention there is already community discourse with some of the difficulties (this can mainly be seen in dan reform and older course but the celestial dan project is under work atm fixing those issues through even more feedback) but eventually this issue will occur a couple years down the line as players improve and have even more varied different popular charts and playstyles. It also is a point of toxicity since they only see a person through there dan clear so id say the issue is basically very subjective but widespread

tried to make acc dan years ago for osumania (basically the score requirement to clear is 990k and mania max score is always 1 million so you have to have good acc and ratio on the map) but i got demotivated quite early
990 isnt high acc thats just general skill like getting a 99%. there already WAS an accuracy dan in 2014 that required getting high ratios like 997s and 998s. final level had you getting a 1m score on the first difficulty of aiae
i no longer even play standard so i don't really care whether dans come to std or not what I sure as hell know is that i now belong to the apparent minority of 4k players that endorse dans (i've never played one bc i forgot they existed from when I used to play etterna, i'm sure as hell gonna try them soon)

To the people frothing at the mouth over 4k receiving less pp than 7k and being more competitive, please note that 4k's skill progression past Delta remained stagnant for the vast majority of the game's lifespan. The community went from essentially 2 Epsilon clears to over 20 in the span of the last 3 years, highlighting the relative immaturity and lack of development the keymode had, at least compared to 7k, with the vast majority of the top 100 players having their collective skill facilitated by the vast corpus of converted VSRG beatmaps dating back to 2001. Epsilon has remained barely clearable until the recent popularization of rapid trigger boards, which extended the ability of top players to allow for many more clears. The skill ceiling in 4k is simply just not that high, not for conventional gameplay devoid of pattern manipulation at least.
as a mania player myself, even though im not as good (average) keep dans in mania, trust, because not even dressurf, kura, bojii, yz, etc can manage to popoff on the most insane dans. you standard players won't like the amount of endurance and speed you guys would need for those maps even though some of you top players do have that kind of ability.
i think standard can implement "how to be [insert player name here]" for example how to be akolibed would be like 8 of his most impressive fc put together and you try to fc it (sidetracked days 1.5x good fucking luck) or something you got the idea
