I have noticed that as soon as a white person sticks up for a black person he is immediately disown by other white why is this? A father passes his corporation down to his son, the son accepts the responsibility of running corporation and all of the pros and cons that may be associated with it. Many of the employees are upset because during the fathers reign, they nor past employees were ever paid or accommodated for their labor that made the Corporation a success. A class action lawsuit is filed and the son agrees to make things right by settling the case with all the employees. Tell me if this a logical thing that the son did? For those who say yes, I ask of you to look at it this way. The corporation I am speaking of is America, the son is today's government, the employees are the descendants of slaves. The fact remains true to Gods word, whenever someone is owed by the debt must be still be settled.

I'm not black ,and I support reparations from white europeans to African Americans. I also support repartations from Germans to Jews, from Turks to Armenians, English to the Irish, and any other well established and significant incidence of oppression and genocide.
The one discourse that people are not mentioning here is the fact that African Americans are the ONLY people in the world who DO NOT know who they really are(i.e. our native tongue and languages, our specific tribe and culture, our namesake, customs, traditions) Everyone else in America, with the exception of the Native American, came here willingly and were not stripped of their true selves. Companies like Aetna benefited from the slave trade by insuring slaves and paying slaveowners.

I know-- Let's make "reparations" a merit-based item for blacks. Reparation "grants" in the form of scholarships for ALL black students with SATs over 2,100; math and science prizes; "good citizenship" awards; "model turnaround inner city community of the year"; "father of the year" awards," etc. The payments can go to individuals and groups, depending on the award. But it would ONLY be merit based. The idea would be to weed out the cultural dysfunctionalities and promote EARNED achievement.

True, there is little tangible value in personal apologies,...however, there is a moral implication that agents/representatives of the state and enabling agencies should issue public apologies and proclamations (wasn't the centuries-long slavery institution itself quite public) & take every deliberate action to reverse the negative social/economic consequences of the slavery institution on relatively disadvantaged modern slave descendants. Mr. Darity said a few of the things I was thinking. We cannot count the end of the Civil War as being the end of slavery. Blacks suffered brutal exploitation for a hundred years after that. One thing he didn't mention though, is that after we paid reparations to blacks we could offer them very good deals on houses. We would need to structure reparations in such a way that it promoted stability among blacks. I'm still not completely sold on reparations, though. Blacks weren't the only ones who had their labor stolen from them. A lot of whites suffered horribly in the coal mines and steel mills of the industrial revolution.

Affirmative action, along with a general social "safety net" has been in place for many decades. There have been other actions such as the recent NAACP law suit against insurance companies for insuring slaves. There is also the argument that other minorities have seldom been offered any reparations or compensation.

This is a dumb topic. Reparations will never happen. America's wealth is directly ties to slavery. If that bill had stayed in effect that would open doors for lawsuits to prove one families wealth was dirived thru owning slaves. would cause a domino effect.
