*TO ALL THOSE WONDERING ABOUT THE MISSING DISPLAY ELEMENTS AFTER THE MOD* This isn't really avoidable unfortunately. Because this module (or more specifically the LCD in this watch) isn't built with a mind to having a timer function operational, there's no need for the LCD to have any form of purpose-designed indication for the auto-repeat for the timer. So what Casio have done is repurpose that 'pin' of the LCD's data connection to use as the always-on elements of the screen like the dividers and the SNZ ALM SIG, and make it always on, so those elements are always visible. Having things like this be built into the LCD itself is cheaper than doing it any other way so it's understandable why Casio went this route for this watch. If you enable the timer, those segments disappear, and the reason they reappear later on in the video (when he is adjusting the setting of the timer) is because they're now effectively back to being the job of the indicator for auto-repeat on the timer. If you go into the timer's adjustment mode and press the light button (which would toggle the auto repeat), presto all the missing display elements appear. But only while you're in timer mode. And only if you have auto-repeat enabled. On a watch that's supposed to have the timer, that pin would work an indicator on-screen that would tell you, while in the timer mode, that auto repeat is on. All the fixed display elements would probably either be printed onto the watch crystal, or be fixed in place some other way, like be an actual plastic divider, like on the Casio Royale for example. It doesn't bother me especially I must admit, but at least we know why now.
Just done this on a W-800H and it works a treat. On that watch the lines are built into the screen plastics so you don't lose any lines etc - also, if you press light whilst setting your countdown it will enable auto restart of the count!
You are a life saver. I used another tutorial to disassemble and do the mod. The tiny spring rolled out and I had no idea where it came from until I found your vid. Cheers.
Beauty! It works. I've got timer and split stopwatch. So Casio can use the same module and sell a couple watch models at different prices simply by adding or removing functions??!! Thats low, bro.
That's how intel accidently invented PCs. They built a single calculator chip that could be set up to provide different sets of functions for different calculators. Some electronics engineers/hobbyists got hold of it and discovered they could make it into a tiny cpu.
Thank you for the post, the solder jumper removed and an useful function is activated. Casio uses a module on different models, this is helpful and informative video.
I did the same with my W800 but I lost the spring. There was no beep sound or any sound. These springs are not available everywhere. I got an idea of using a tiny metal wire bit inside the hole where there the spring used to be and it worked. Yeeeaahhh.
if you also solder the third jumper from the lowest where there are those 5 jumpers in a line you will enable the 5 alarms mode. (but only the first one will have a snooze function). I also have put the little spring with the large side inside the watch before closing the movement/module and it doesn't get lost that way. Follow this link for more info, the 5alarms mod is on page 2 www.watchuseek.com/threads/hidden-function-in-my-casio-w800h-module-what-the-heck-can-i-turn-it-on.650650/

А то придется убирать пылинки изнутри стекла - сделать это ой как не просто. Жирные разводы с самого дисплея (если работали без перчаток) легко убираются дистиллированной водой и чистой салфеткой.
Thanks for mentioning that little spring. I followed instructions for this mod on another video that did not mention it at all. I realized that I had this little spring on my desk that I had no idea where it went in the watch. Thanks to this vid I knew where to put it back. Fun fact: without this spring the piezo chimer does not work.
Yep, weird how that little spring can completely mute a watch. It's also weird given how small electronic components keep getting on a seemingly daily basis, that they don't just find a way to incorporate the ground somewhere else like actually on the PCB, and get rid of that spring altogether.
I knew I should have picked up a W800 while I was at Walmart. I was there, literally under an hour ago, and they had a few with assorted case/band color combinations. I picked one up, looked it over, out it back, picked it up, put it down, a few times before I put it back and walked away from it. OOOOF!

Sergei Frolov Oh my god! Thank you so much for explaining that! I did the mod and it was driving me insane not knowing where the lines and alarm indicators had gone! In the video they had also disappeared when he puts the watch back together, but then suddenly they’re just there again but he doesn’t explain how!
i think they recycle some modules from more expensive, already existing g shocks for these cheaper watches, and if they unlocked it, there wouldnt be a reason to buy the more expensive g shock rather that a cheaper w800 for example except if you like the design or the shock resistance
Some people only want a timer, not shock resistance or other features. If they provide a timer in cheap watches, many people may prefer not to buy the higher end versions. That will affect their sales.
I remember hearing that terrorists would use the timer function of these cheap watches for their bombs. Casio disabled the timer function on the cheaper watches to combat this.
All I can figure is, Casio sees the Timer as a luxury feature and only want the timer for their more expensive watches so more people will buy them. I'm guessing using the same module for their budget and expensive lines is more cost effective.
Hmm, so the downside of this mod is that the Timer is always on "Auto-Repeat" as I've noticed ? (maybe the other solder blobs/pads have anything to do with that setting.. )
Instead of doing the mod wouldn’t it be easier just to use the alarm by setting it to a time that you would count down to (but obviously forward in the alarm time)? Maybe that works for me because I rarely use the countdown timer.
@Douglas Pantera it’s so simple that I don’t even need it. I see it all the time where no matter how good a watch is consumers always find something to nit pick. People should apply that attitude to themselves to do better.
@Travis. I replied to your email but it bounced back -no reply. I attached an image of the MB where I scratched the solder joint immediately after I received the watch from Amazon, and I also scratched some more. Still no timer. Because of marketing. Because of money. Say a guy doesn't care about the style nor the color of a watch. All he cares about is functionality. Okay, then he has two options of watches to purchase. Let's just say for example that, Watch (A) costs $20 but doesn't have a timer. Watch (B) has a timer, but costs $30. The only difference between watch (A) and watch (B) is that one has a timer and the other one doesn't, which is the reason for the $10 dollar difference. Everything else is EXACTLY the same. Okay, the guy really wants a timer because he needs that function for whatever reason. He will end up spending the extra $10 for watch (B) just so he can have a timer on his watch. BAM! ! ! ! Casio just made an easy extra $10 bucks from watch (B) that cost them the exact same amount to make watch (A). Yes, $10 dollars is not much of a difference, which is why the customer would not really hesitate to buy watch (B) just to get the timer. But now, multiply that $10 by a million customers for example. How much extra profit did Casio just make just for disabling a simple feature that the watch already has to begin with? 🤷 That's why, it all just comes down to $$. A marketing strategy 🤔 This video was created to override that marketing strategy. You save those "$10" but you need to do some work. Not many people are willing to go through the hassle, so they'll just end up spending the extra "$10" and call it a day.
