They have to bring in women to smoke them in order to preserve them. But tilapia sells out any day anytime. the women even fight over it. But like he said, catfish are hardy. they can even survive in a bucket of water .

The reason explained here is why the two are the most preferred to farm. Other fishes are going to be harder to maintain and more costly. You could try milkfish if you have access to them. They are actually really good when smoked. Shrimp is also good

I am Tanzanian, where we have the biggest tilapia lake (Lake Nyanza), and lots of other lakes and rivers where tilapia and catfish exist.

Catfish are bottom feeders and according to scripture they should not be eaten. I remember as a small boy being exited I caught my first fish, a catfish. But my dad never warmed me about that bone in back of head. In the U.S. we call being stunned by a catfish being horned. I hate catfish since then and when I catch one by accident I am afraid to touch it. Now cleaning a catfish means skinning it. So I do not like catching catfish. Also if they are from muddy water the meat is not good tasting, from clean water it is okay.
Catfish is unclean, it should not be eaten by anyone! Unless you don't care about your salvation! It's not about the money, and it's not healthy for the body!

Tilapia farming is best suited to natural water sources rather than artificial ponds, as the taste is noticeably different.
It's true of catfish, when well barbecued, Tila takes the back seat
What about salmon farming or shrimp farming? Is it just as profitable? Also I’m from Louisiana so I’m team catfish.
Australian "yabbies" (species technical name: Cherax destructor) are very good to farm, if they are legal and marketable in your area
