- Dustin and I offer our thoughts on the new 21 year-old single barrel single malt from the Balvenie Distillery. Drawn from an refill American oak cask after a lengthy slumber.

Interesting, I think I'm pretty much in agreement with both of you with my fondness of Balvenie. I moved heaven and earth to source the 15 ex-bourbon in the first couple of years after they stopped it. You had to find it in shops that didn't list online. I got about six bottles in a booze shop in the south of Spain on holiday. My last bottle is still in my pad in Andalusia which I've not been able to visit the past two ******g years. That age is a kind of sweet spot for me so I wonder if I'd like this more even though I guess this is awesome. I've not tasted this so I can't say but I know what Mike means about that tiny sour note that you can get even with top quality aged ex-bourbon casks. Sadly, Balvenie have slipped off my radar due to their pricing. What's wrong with having a a decent 10 12, 15 year at 46-50% at a reasonable price for us mere mortals. We'll leave the expensive stuff for you guys until the revolution. Cheers guys. Good review. WT

Every Balvenie expression that I ever tried was relatively simple but very well executed...
As others have said, I too am fond of The Balvenie OBs. I have had and still have many to enjoy. The only one I never really took a liking to was the Portwood 21. I do love the ex bourbon 15 YO single barrel (still have a few left from the early 1990s) so I’m gonna have to give this one a try. Thanks guys!
You got it for a great price. Love these Balvenie bottles and corks. If they ever decide to bottle these single barrels at cask strength, they would be aces. I had a 15 sherry matured one, it was great but of late, prices on them really shot up. Thank you, Mike and Dustin, for the contribution you guys keep on making. Love to see a comparison video of single barrels.
Cask strength is always better but 47.8 is a strong abv… the sherry cask SB has been getting pricey. Cheers

This one just popped up at local store, not sure if it’s same bottle but it’s definitely refill bourbon cask. $379 though, prob a bit more than I’d like to pay. also just picked up the 2020 springbank 21. Your guys’ review on that was spot on with that one. Cheers!

Few years back I tried Balvenie 12, 17 and 21 and they didn’t impress me at all since I’m not fan of most finished kinda single malts. Still have all those bottles 70+% filled but I just can’t touch them. So it’s pretty hard for me to pull the trigger on any balvenie but 15 single barrel is on my list and eventually will get it.
I have one request from you, would you mind reviewing GlenDronach 21? I’m really interested to see your views about it. Cheers
That'd doable, the question is an older bottling or newer?

@@topshelfdustin3060 That would be interesting. I just wonder how these new 21s which are close to 25 years maturation would fare against Glengoyne 25.
@@krishnar3493 sherry bomb vs refilled bourbon, they're very different. Personally, would rather have the glengoyne but that might just be my enjoyment in first fill ex european oak sherry casks.
So disappointing for the price. Are any of the 1509s worth $400-450 +tax?
Mike and I were rather fond of the batch 5 and 3. I'd try and find them in the UK for more like 350 or so. At 450 you might get your money's worth but just ever so slightly. The batch 6 while completely well made whisky was a massive disappointment. I think we have at least batch 5 and 6 reviews up.
