Hey guys, a wonderful viewer by the name of Gary Keeling pointed out that the band's name is actually Nemophila NOT Nemophilia. My bad! I guess that's the dangers of exploring unfamiliar territory. 👍
Nemophila is a mostly blue flower that are native western USA. The song Revive is a good next song with Nemophila. How deep do You want to dig down in the Japanese foxhole? Here are some deep suggestions: Gyze / Oriental Symphony, Galneryus / Angel of Salvation, Versailles / Faith and decision (live, the first half is instrumental), Yousei Teikoku / Astral Dogma and if You want to explore bands that started in the 80:ies and still playing: Ningen Isu / Heartless Scat, Show-Ya / Eye to eye and Shonen Knife (bubblegum-pop-punk without attitude) the song Top of the world... this one is just for feelgood vibes and these ladies always makes me smiles, they are not top notch musicians but to make a silly feelgood smile on people is their goal! If You want to explore other cultures: From India : Bloodywood / Machi Bhasad (Expect a Riot) or from Togo, Africa: Arka'n / Tears from the dead! Sorry for the wall off suggestions... *-)
The Japanese rabbit hole is deep indeed! I fell into it 3 years ago and refuse to get out. The saying "Rock/Metal didn't die, it just moved to Japan" is becoming increasingly popular and true lol. Since you've covered Lovebites and Nemophila, the next logical step would be Band-Maid. They're hands down the best rock band in the world at the moment, if not the past few decades. Their live stuff is better than their studio ones, can't go wrong with choosing any of their songs. While their genre is "hard rock", they are a genre unto themselves according to many. Other Japanese bands you'll no doubt be checking out on your journey are Ningen Isu (The Japanese Black Sabbath. Heartless Scat is a common starting point). Hanabie if you're looking for some screams/growls (We love sweets is a popular one) Maximum the Hormone - legends in Japanese metal. How many genres would you like to fit into 1 song? The drummer inspired Akane of Band-Maid to play drums, and Akane is one of the best right now Unlucky Morpheus - you mentioned in a previous reaction about fantasy games. This band has a song all about a member's love for Final Fantasy, called Unending Sorceress. Fuki is one of the most accomplished vocalists in Japan. One of the members plays a violin. All supremo level. Galneryus - has one of the best guitarists in the world in Syu. Singer is rock solid too. Angel of Salvation is a good start. And more Nemophila, Lovebites, and Band-Maid ;-) There's a list of 50 more names of great J bands, but don't want to overwhelm. Digging your reactions and insights!
As soon as you end up listening to stuff like Pikarin Shiina, Candye Syrup, or 14th Generation Toilet Hanako-san you realise that the Rabbithole is more like the Sarlacc from Star Wars.
100% agree! Nemophilia and Lovebites are amazing, amazing bands, but Band-Maid is what will catapult all of them on the world stage. The best band out there right now.
Nice reaction mate! You're right about their live performances. If you want to see an example of this check out their live performance of the song Oiran from the Naon Yaon festival 2021. This show was during lock downs so there is no audience and it was streamed online so they are performing for the cameras. Still a kick ass performance 🤘😊🤘
Yeah this is a good live for sure. Their 1st live show with a crowd was in January. Hope they release a few songs from it as it was great. As for Nemo ONLY Jinjer is above them as my favorite. Hit ANY of their songs or awesome covers they do for their fans. The Maximum the Hormobe covers are especially tasty.
Their performance of Oiran during that show really showcases the amazing, Rockstar, badass-while-still-being-adorable vibe these ladies have going on. Their stage presence rivals the greatest western bands without question.
This band is great, and they're really playful as well as badass. I follow them all on twitter, and Mayu in particular posts some pretty funny stuff. You should do Raitei next. The last 15 seconds of that song are AMAZING.
MAYU's melodic metalcore whistle-tone fry scream is the best of them all IMO. And the way she can so seamlessly turn it on and off and switch into that rock rasp and cleans is the best there is. Even her kawai (cute) vocal mode is fire. MAYU can sing anything and everything. 🌸✨🌠
These ladies have a variety of influences that they incorporate into their music. Check out "Life", "Hypnosis"and "Night Flight" and you'll see 3 different styles. Enjoy!
Nemophila is pure 🔥🔥. World class musicians and Mayu is an amazing vocalist. Not all their songs are this heavy but they’re all fantastic. I recommend Revive or Demon Light next. Or Oiran at the Naon Yano festival for the live experience. Also try Hanabie and their song “we love sweets” for some memorable vocals and a very fun video.
Absolutely love this band. Love this song! Mayu is the only singer I like screaming at me. The ladies are just pure talent. Thank you for reacting to this video.
The singer's clean vocals remind me of Heather Thompson of Tapping the Vein. I've followed Tamu Murata's (drums) career for a few years now. She is so much fun.
I now have a new band to add to my list, Thank you! Galneryus - Angels of Salvation is a Japanese band/song that is just an eargasm to listen to. Speed and classical metal with Opera like vocals. If you've listened to Tchaikovsky you'll hear it. One of my favorite bands from Japan for sure.
Yeah Nemophila is great. Mayu banshee sound can be bit too much for some people. But they do have songs where she doesn´t use it at all or less. Next band to continue your Japanese rabbit hole must be Hanabie - We love sweets.
If you want to explore more here are three songs with harsh vocals, all completely different: Deviloof "Newspeak", Hanabie (花冷え) "We love sweets (我甘党)", Broken by the Scream "感情クロスカウンター"
I’ve been following this band for a few months now. Also found them through a rabbit hole. Started with Babymetal, then Band-Maid (I love, love, LOVE their bass tone), then found Love Bites and Hanabe which led me to Nemophilia. All great artist. But to your opening comments about falling into a trap. I too was in a similar mindset. Then one day I have a black metal band a chance and really enjoyed it. Through that journey I found other artist of other genres that all had something I enjoyed about them. Like polyphonic vocals or Scandinavian influenced artist. Because of that my view changed and I became more open minded to other genres and as a musician myself, I feel it opened up more ideas, sounds and techniques to me.
That has 100% been my experience with this UA-cam journey so far. You allow yourself to drop your guard and you can discover a whole new world of awesome.
As with Band Maid, Lovebites, just to name two phenomenal Japanese bands, live is where it is at. Nemophila, have formed from other bands. I believe Saiki, guitarist and Tamu, drummer still play in other bands. Leave Haraguchi-san, bassist alone. I have such a crush on her because she looks so wonderful playing her bass. 😍 Here is the link to the Nemophila song Oiran, played live: ua-cam.com/video/19VQ9tkWksQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=NEMOPHILA
@@PrymalChaos It is the same for Miho, bass player in Lovebites and Misa, bass player in Band Maid. Both just over 5ft but are demon players and look cute wielding around their weapon. 🙂
I've listened to the Japanese metal band Loudness from the 80's ,they rocked ,as these girls could have been influenced by them an took it to the next level! Great review & reaction!..👍
Guitarist on the right side of screen (Saki) speaks English, but the un-official leader is probably the world-class jazz drummer, Tamu. Nemophila just recently did their first live concert in front of a live audience at Line Cube Shibuya. It was phenomenal! They come as advertised. Their raw emotion throughout the entire concert is going to draw a lot of fans to them. Check out Revive, Hypnosis and their anthem "Life."
Nunca es tarde para reaccionar a uno de los mejores temas de Nemophila! lo felicito sr, ahora recién esta ud en las ligas mayores !! ahora lo van a poner a gozar 👌 y yo me suscribo.
all the production/postproduction has been done in Japan. they're a fairly new band (2019). they record and film their videos on their own budget, they released their first album just a couple of moths ago, and had their first concert just about a month ago (however they did have few online streaming concerts previously).
PLEASE check out their live-version of "Oiran" at Naon no Yaon 2021! also PLEASE check out MergingMoon - Greyen! Expecially if you're interested in extreme vocals!
@@PrymalChaos make sure you do the live version from Naon no Yaon 2021, not the old "UA-cam Version" and don't forget MergingMoon - "Greyen"! less well known, but amazing!
nemophila is the most exciting new band, they are all professional musicians from different bands, and they play a variety of genres. Check out《oiran》live 2021 or《hypnosis》next please!🌸🔥🤘🏻
You have to love these girls! Their technical skills are off the chart, but yet they don't take themselves too seriously. They have to be the happiest little metal-heads out there. I've seen them in interviews, and they're just cute, little, giggling young women, but are all business when they step on stage. In a lot of their videos, you see the bass player and drummer looking at each and smiling and laughing like they're having the best time possible. Possibly, the best description I've seen of Mayu on stage is "beautiful little savage." My favorite three bands right now are Lovebites, Nemophila, and Bandmaid (not in any particular order). My favorite of the three is the one I'm listening to at the time. These young women are putting most dudes to shame right now.
Prefer their songs Revive and Hypnosis plus some great covers. Got to them via Lovebites and Band Maid ignoring BabyMetal. Now also found Gacharic Spin, Sokoninaru, Mary's Blood, Hagane, Asterism and a really early band Show Ya.
@@clivematthews5296 Same for me when I started out, somehow I got used to it and now it's my favourite band ever. All good though, there are so many good bands out there you don't have to like everything! I forgot to mention Aldious btw ;) Have a good day/night!
@@Beinomat thanks. Yes BabyMetal have amazing backing musicians but find vocal too childlike. That's why my absolute favourite band is Nightwish as Floor Jansen is the best female rock singer that I have ever heard.
@@clivematthews5296 I can totally understand that. There's also Kari Band, which are just 3 (or now 2 since one died unfortunately) members of the babymetal musicians doing more progressive/jazzy type music (without any vocals). I love Nightwish, too. Listened to a lot of metal as teenager, but kind of lost interest in music and on one fateful evening I stumbled across that Ghost Love Score Life Performance with Floor and it hit me very hard xD Wouldn't even know of Babymetal or any of these other bands without Nightwish.

@@PrymalChaos To add to this - SAKI, one of the guitarists for Nemophila is also guitarist for Mary's Blood. Definitely check out their track "Burning Blaze" ua-cam.com/video/08GNcXDuSMY/v-deo.html
They are really diverse, not only this heavy! My 2 favourites are "Raitei" and "Hypnosis", so I would suggest those 2 :D If you want to hear some songs with still a lot of screaming you can go with "Revive" or with "OIRAN" (live at NAONのYAON2021) They started in 2019 by making covers, and they have done a lot of those! Most notably some Iron Maiden, X-Japan and Linkin Park. Since you already reacted to them, a good connection is also that they covered "Megitsune" by BabyMetal and both "Shimi" and "Zetsubo Billy" from Maximum the Hormone!
Just a couple notes. The name of the band is Nemophila, not Nemophilia (there is no second "i"). It is a kind of flower with five petals, which they chose for its feminine sound, and because they have five members, with each petal representing a member. Also, her vocal effects are 100% her! Although they certainly did some of the usual clean-up, reverb, etc. in post production, there are no outside effects that give her harsh voice its particular unique quality. She has said she had to visit a voice specialist to actually learn about why she is able to produce that sound, just to make sure it is safe.
Whoa! Thanks for the heads up! I actually re read your comment twice to see what the difference was.. 😂😂 Yeah she has an unusual scream but it's really interesting to me!
Las mejores sucesoras de SHOW-YA, 1banda femenina de heavy metal japonés y madrinas entre otras de Nemophila, Mary's Blood, Gacharic Spin, Scandal, etc (Fairy, Look at Me, Genkai Lovers, One Way Heart, Gambling, Kurenai, Battle Express, Shooting Star, JAM, Emotion, etc)
I agree with proposed Oiran live at Naon no Yaon festival. You can see the band with full energy and great performance ua-cam.com/video/19VQ9tkWksQ/v-deo.html Actually Haraguchi-san, the bassist, is not so small as mayu, the vocalist. I saw mayu picture with bass and somebody commented "Why do they make these basses so big?" :D Nemophila members are not taking themselfes freaking serious. For this MV they needed dark location and more badass outfits, than usual, possibly because song lyrics are almost open threat to "black suits" reigning the world, but 2 bridge sections are like sign "It's still us". Screaming vocal is not "must have" in their songs. Life and Game Over are beautiful rock/metal ballads.
and now imagine that the only ever did there first big live show with these players, a couple of weeks ago. It was lots of fun. I love how SAKI, who is known to be a very technical player here realy holds back and Hazuki does more of the fancy stuff. But the entire band is great. maybe do Sorai next, there oldest song. Or do one from their extensive cover list: ua-cam.com/play/PLBjZv4qO3Cv589S_5EL3I7_hG7lsjZ2Y4.html - maybe the Linkin Park one, or Iron Maiden, or KISS ...
hey mate have you checked out australias own hard core metal band with an amazing female vocalist called High Tension , maybe check out their song high risk high reward .
Following the trajectory you seem to be going Hanabie should be next. The best introduction would be "We love sweets" or 我甘党 as it's called in Japanese: ua-cam.com/video/G18yyvPCiTM/v-deo.html They started in high school doing covers of Maximum the Hormone. Personally, I'd recommend Ningen Isu. You mentioned click and backing tracks in another video, well they don't use either, not even in ear monitors. Here is a live video of their song "Namahage": ua-cam.com/video/rUvKusi05MA/v-deo.html
Hanabie (pronounced ha-na-bi-e) did a mini concert recently which even has (slightly broken) subtitles. Some people complain about the mix, but I like it. Of course the sound in the MV is better, but no subtitles. The start of "We love sweets" is at ua-cam.com/video/kjxWHQfIi_I/v-deo.html in that mini concert.
@@pevaneyn For a first impression the MV is better imo. Subtitles can be distracting on first viewing and the idea of the song comes across pretty well through the video as it is.
If you dig Japanese girl bands with growlers, you gotta check out Hanabie, Galmet, Ragdollz, Gacharic Spin, Doll$Boxx (Gacharic Spin with a different vocalist), Yellow Machinegun, Fate Gear, Telecide, Zettai Club, Exist Trace (their older stuff. New stuff is good too, but no growls), Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation, Gekijo Metalicche (Midori from Lovebite's old band), A Drop of Joker (Miyako from Lovebite's old band), Valkyrie, Gallhammer, and Xenolith Oger, to name a few.
Hi PC! Theres an Awesome New Arch Enemy track and video 'Handshake With Hell' just recently released. Just got to be the best new song by anyone so far this year! Cheers - Take Care!
@@PrymalChaos They're kinda more old school Japanese Metal, in visual and musical style, not when they started. That's probably why I don't see them that often in recation videos.
Pretty cool song ngl, not a huge fan on the effects used on the harsh vocals but its not terrible I suppose. Keeping in the Japanese Rabbithole, maybe a circle back around to MTH for Yoshu Fukushu ? Either the content is still great!
Agreed. There is some processing, but you gotta admit her scream is pretty unique. At least to my rookie ears. Definitely more Maximum the Hormone on the cards. There's just not enough hours in the day to give all these awesome bands the respect they deserve! Sigh. That's the sole reason I've hit 75 videos in two months. I'll keep chipping away. Thanks for keeping me company on the journey mate!
if you want to hear more of Nemophila here are their best songs Adabana Music Video, Raitei Music Video, Revive Music Video, A Ray of Light Music Video, Style Music Video, Sorai Live and Life Live and if you want to hear some of their cover songs here are their 5 best covers AC DC Whole Lotta Rosie, Linkin Park Given Up, Babymetal Megitsune, Iron Maiden Aces High and Iron Maiden The Trooper please react to all of these and please let me know what you think
I don't know you but you didn't mention BAND-MAID. They are rock not metal but they are an amazing band. I would recommend the live version of WARNING and the videos for BLOOMING and DICE. These girls are super talented with billions of songs. There's a guy called PinD who makes photo collages of BAND-MAID songs that don't have film clips. They are mostly the early songs and you Will see that on the Spotify monthly chart for the most played BAND-MAID songs that the old songs are equally as popular try FREEZER and SHAKE THAT and everything else PinD has.
Even though my musical heart belongs more to the rock genre, I've been following these ladies for well over a year now and am very impressed with them and always look forward to one of their songs popping up next in my playlist. :) You want to get a live impression of them? Then I recommend their track 'Oiran (NAONのYAON2021)', or if you want to get a taste of their versatility, their video for 'Life'. Regarding the latter, it should be noted that the performance was performed in a special way in honor of their drummer Tamu, who celebrated her comeback after the birth of her first child. But now something about the Japanese Rabbithole. You have Babymetal, Lovebites and now Nemophila. I think there is actually one band missing. :) But only if you also have something for the more rock-heavy genre. Yes? Then 'BAND-MAID' should be your next stop on your Japan trip, whose name I've seen here in the comments alone and who most likely appeared in those of the other videos of your journey so far. For some (many) this band is the best the genre has seen and heard in decades. The MV for 'Dice' or their showcase live performance for 'Domination' would be a good place to start I think. :) Greetings from Germany _____________________ 【 _Our rock never dies ever. How do you fancy something different. 3 Indonesian Hijab wearing Muslim girls who play Rock/Metal called " Voice of Baceprot". They have been around a few years now and started doing covers. They were not well received when they started playing in school, by their parents or their small village in Indonesia but have now become more excepted. My favourite is an original - God, Allow Me (Please) To Play Music - ua-cam.com/video/WPVo_QyS0Hw/v-deo.html a lot of people recommend the cover of Rage Against the Machine, Killing in the name of, live in Paris but I prefer their original stuff also School Revolution. They have something to say in their music.
Great reaction. Mayu is the most versatile and charismatic rock vocalist since Robert Plant, and the entire band is extremely talented. BTW, the screamo parts and gang vocals in Dissention are entirely in English. Their best song is Oiran, and this live in studio video perfectly captures the band’s chemistry. ua-cam.com/video/eyb2NtPwcxc/v-deo.html Then jump to their cover of Make You Happy to have your mind blown. ua-cam.com/video/pbl1KEPgWvk/v-deo.html Monsters is an original that shows yet another side of the band. ua-cam.com/video/NfWrqbjJpEU/v-deo.html Their covers of One Night Carnival ( ua-cam.com/video/p_iReansmtc/v-deo.html ) And Don’t Say Lazy ( ua-cam.com/video/EqSWOLsSj7Q/v-deo.html ) are super catchy. If you want hooks, look no further than BAND-MAID. Start with Domination (LIVE) and Blooming.
These ladies are very experienced individuals and had been on the scene for years. The drummer and one of the guitarist had been on the scene for more than 10 years each, 25 years combined. However, I am going to focus on the tiny beast, their bass player. You will be surprise to learn how good their bassist actually is. Haraguchi-san (ex-Hölderlins) is mayu's (the vocalist, ex-LIPSTICK) friend from high school. She is one of the badass bassist who started playing 5 strings Jazz bass from the very beginning, since high school. When asked why, she said it's cool and wanted to produce a lower sound than a normal bass. During her early years, she was interested in Punk Rock music. Longing for an aggressive sound, she also lowered the tuning of the bass so she is very well proficient in her 5 strings bass. Sometimes she imitates Blink182 bass player and played it with the bass position at the lower parts of her body. The first CD she bought was Avril Lavigne as she likes cute and rock figure, which match NEMOPHILA's "Jigoku no Yurufuwa" (literal translate: hell fluffy cute) concept. Speaking of Punk Rock, it was Green Day that impressed her the most. She did playing around with a lot of the guitar riffs of American Idiot album with the impressive riffs and basses of each song; and she liked the clear tone of the bass. Slipknot was the reason she started listening to heavy metal and they have been her all time favourite artist. Then she discovered Maximum The Hormones (MTH), a band that made her started thinking to be in such a fierce band. She used to play with picks but MTH bass player inspired her to explore more of bass playing style. Now she is also very prominent in using her fingers and slapping technique. You should watched them covering MTH song and see how happy she is (well, TBH, she is always happy with her bass) with intense headbanging. She is wild on stage. Watch OIRAN live from NAONYAON2021 to see her 'wild side'. She is now using Sadowsky RV5 Metroline as her main bass. Her first bass was Bacchus and she had always using Bacchus bass before switching to Sadowsky as she owns several Bacchus in her collection. All her bass are 5 strings as she never actually used to 4 strings bass. Her senior Shinichiro Iwakiri, a bassist and composer/arranger gave her various advices based on the music she play. She chose Sadowsky with Jazz profile and to her, its an instrument that can produce sounds of loud rock genres such as NEMOPHILA, yet is versatile and can be used widely She had always lean towards Jazz bass due to its overall sound - more full, dynamic, and round tones. Before this she had always use Bacchus bass. She still using Jazz bass as opposed to Precision bass with NEMOPHILA and like to play it in passive tone, which is just like an ordinary Jazz bass. She like Jazz bass because she could freely adjust the tone dynamically with her playing style alone and not too dependent on electrical equipments... at least for now. With Jazz bass, she is already showing her aggressive playing style so just imagine if she is on Precision bass. She also mentioned that her next collection could be Precision bass and she is eyeing Warwick bass with great interest so maybe in the future we could hear more aggressive sound from her.
I need to see more of her work! She's an amazing player and I still can't believe how effortlessly she gets around that bass being that it is so big on her. Excellent work. Thanks for the info!
@@PrymalChaos then you need to watch them on stage performing their first single at live streaming event NEMOPHILA / OIRAN (NAONのYAON2021). Haraguchi-san said "During our live performances, we want to take the songs to a higher level than on the recorded versions. That is not easy and we are aware of that, but it is something important. Our live shows are energetic, which may cause us to play violently at times!" So definitely check out OIRAN live and see how much energy they have especially the bassist, Haraguchi-san. She and her rhythmic duo the drummer Murata Tamu, are always known for having too much fun together at the back, especially in their studio.
Would you be interested in react to the Japanese Rock/Metal bands of the 80's/90's that are the actual influence for the bands of Japan you are reacting to. 2 all male, 2 all female. The production is Japanese, they have not been outside of Japan. Japan is the #2 music market in the world, with the infrastructure of agencies, record companies, schools and venues to support it. Did you see Hazuki wink at you?!?! React to Nemophila "Monsters", a totally different version of Mayu's vocals.
very nice. A little too "American" for my taste? :-). which should be a very weird thing to say about a japanes band but it isn't. what i love about metal is how different cultures take the basics and make it uniquely their own. the way Japanese bands have done that the last few years is amazing, inspiring, and part of what makes metal unique. Like metal is a state of Soul rather than mind and the spins that can be put onto it are endless and glorious. Myself, more particular to the way lovebites express metal but all of them make me happy and hopefull for the future. Great reaction!
This song is more of a metalcore style, which was born (I think) in America. But they play several different styles and genres, and a lot of their music is more European in style than American, I would say.
i am a huge black and depressive black metal fan. and trust me is not unique. tons of women in black and depressive black metal as well. also in post-black metal which i also very much am a fan of. you have lots of women vocalists. so no women screaming is not something weird to me anymore. in fact i even prevere it most of the time over male screams.
@@PrymalChaos I only discovered JRock/M 4 years ago - I'm 60 and grew up with PF, BS, Yes Genesis et al. When the 80's came along I retreated into Classical and World Folk. Discovering Band Maid and Lovebites and the Finnish/D Band, Nightwish "maid" make me feel 16 again. Your quite right! Step out of your comfort zone. I have now 40 years worth of rock/metal music that will out live me from Japan! :) Happy Days
I admit, I´m not a super great fan of false chord singing/growling, so "Nemophilia" is not my favorite. Try "Band-Maid". I love "Play", but thier other top songs are "Domination" or "Freedom". Also from Japan, also all female, but in another musical directon is "Gacharic Spin". Plenty of musical anarchy and oganized chaos. Try it blind. I mentioned them, because you awakend the japaneese metal hardcore fans, and they will lead you only in thier direction.
I'm also not usually a fan of growling, but Mayu really only growls on a couple songs. The majority of their songs she sings in a clean style. Her clean voice, though, is a bit more rock-like than Saiki's, which has more of a pop quality. Love Band-Maid, too, though!
great reaction thanks for me the best song of nemophila is "revive" I hope you will, stay in Japan also listen to BAND - MAID, I recommend FREEDOM (Official Live Video), fantastic here ua-cam.com/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/v-deo.html
It's unfortunate but I personally completely dislike the growling in vocals. More than one song I've turned off due to it. I see no real reason for it, but that is MY personal dislike. Otherwise the band has very good musicianship, and when she sings clear, I do appreciate the music.
Hey Guy! It's not for everyone, of everyone had the same tastes the world would be pretty one dimensional and boring. I will say this though, I started this channel to force myself to explore heavier vocal techniques because I knew there were so many bands that I was missing out on due to disliking harsh vocals. Turns out, by reacting to some amazing songs I have discovered a deep interest in how the sounds are produced, different techniques, the quest for a 'healthy' scream (extreme vocals can be extremely damaging if done incorrectly) among other things. It took me a minute but now I am really into it! Maybe in time it will connect with you too. Spiritbox or Jinjer is probably a good place to start.
@@PrymalChaos You are correct in the ‘scream’ or growl. In a few instances I have just gotten through it due to the regular vocalist being so good, or a mix like Unlucky Morpheus sometimes does. But reactors such as yourself have also introduced me to different bands, so thanks!
Welcome to your new discovery! The band Nemophila (not Nemophilia) is named for a small light blue flower, which you will sometimes see as their band symbol and color. A great MV, Raitei, at ua-cam.com/video/lh-dVLKP314/v-deo.html opens with their flower symbol and is mainly shot in monochrome except for light blue, which looks cool. It changes to full color just over half-way through which makes sense in the poetical lyrics, which luckily are provided in CC. Their web site nemophila.tokyo/ gives a lot of info under profile about band history and members, which is provided in several languages. For more fun research, they do A LOT of covers of a variety of styles which are great to listen to - guaranteed you will find something you will like!
@@PrymalChaos Apologies are mine! I thought to point out the misspelling would be trite, but if you researched using the misspelled word you could miss out on lots of great stuff. In retrospect I regret my choice, but hope something useful came of it!
@@de_minimis no no! Thank you you're right I don't think I would have seen the error otherwise and as you say, may have missed out on some great material from the band. 😊🤘
@@davidornberg "Not top notch musicians" Ive never heard anyone say that. Saki and Murata tamu are regarded as two of the best in Japan.
@@yakidin63 Agreed. They are very well respected as “Top Notch” musicians 🤟🏻
@@yakidin63 I mean those in Shonen Knife......
Hanabie if you're looking for some screams/growls (We love sweets is a popular one)
Maximum the Hormone - legends in Japanese metal. How many genres would you like to fit into 1 song? The drummer inspired Akane of Band-Maid to play drums, and Akane is one of the best right now
Unlucky Morpheus - you mentioned in a previous reaction about fantasy games.
And more Nemophila, Lovebites, and Band-Maid ;-)
There's a list of 50 more names of great J bands, but don't want to overwhelm.
Digging your reactions and insights!
As soon as you end up listening to stuff like Pikarin Shiina, Candye Syrup, or 14th Generation Toilet Hanako-san you realise that the
Rabbithole is more like the Sarlacc from Star Wars.
Thanks for the info Robert! Yeah I think Band-Maid will have to be in the next group of videos.
@@PrymalChaos I support that Band Maid should be next. And more Maximum the Hormone would never hurt.
100% agree! Nemophilia and Lovebites are amazing, amazing bands, but Band-Maid is what will catapult all of them on the world stage. The best band out there right now.
@@PrymalChaos BAND-MAID are the epitome of Jazz/Punk/ROck/Prog/Fusion
Nice reaction mate! You're right about their live performances. If you want to see an example of this check out their live performance of the song Oiran from the Naon Yaon festival 2021. This show was during lock downs so there is no audience and it was streamed online so they are performing for the cameras. Still a kick ass performance 🤘😊🤘
I'll take a look! Thanks.
Tha ks for the tip!
Her scream is really unique!
These ladies have a variety of influences that they incorporate into their music. Check out "Life", "Hypnosis"and "Night Flight" and you'll see 3 different styles. Enjoy!
Thanks Timothy! Will do!
More will be coming! I'm definitely curious now.
Absolutely love this band. Love this song! Mayu is the only singer I like screaming at me. The ladies are just pure talent. Thank you for reacting to this video.
No problem! They were a nice surprise!
Hi, nice reaction!
It's time to watch Band-Maid.
Yes!
Cool! I'll take a look.
Keep doing more Nemophila u got my sub!
Thank you! And thanks for giving me a pass on screwing up their name!!
@@PrymalChaos haha we all did it the first few times :)
Yeah Nemophila is great. Mayu banshee sound can be bit too much for some people. But they do have songs where she doesn´t use it at all or less.
Next band to continue your Japanese rabbit hole must be Hanabie - We love sweets.
Oh I really like her scream. It's really unique. It has a tight compression sound to it that makes it fit nicely into the sound.
If you want to explore more here are three songs with harsh vocals, all completely different: Deviloof "Newspeak", Hanabie (花冷え) "We love sweets (我甘党)", Broken by the Scream "感情クロスカウンター"
Thanks for the tips!
Here is the link to the Nemophila song Oiran, played live: ua-cam.com/video/19VQ9tkWksQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=NEMOPHILA
She is adorable! I just can't believe she can get around that bass! It's as big as she is. Excellent player too!
@@PrymalChaos It is the same for Miho, bass player in Lovebites and Misa, bass player in Band Maid. Both just over 5ft but are demon players and look cute wielding around their weapon. 🙂

I definitely will!
I've listened to the Japanese metal band Loudness from the 80's ,they rocked ,as these girls could have been influenced

Yeah Nemophila just recently covered a Loudness song :D
I would love to hear Mayu do a cover of any Guns and Roses songs.
Guitarist on the right side of screen (Saki) speaks English, but the un-official leader is probably the world-class jazz drummer, Tamu. They also do covers where they do their best to mimic that band, including Metalizing some bubblegum pop songs.

Oh cool! Glad to have discovered them.
The level of talent in these bands is incredible.
Try Hanabie and Destrose, too!
(also why ignoring babymetal? ;)

If you want to hear some songs with still a lot of screaming you can go with "Revive" or with "OIRAN" (live at NAONのYAON2021)
They started in 2019 by making covers, and they have done a lot of those!
Most notably some Iron Maiden, X-Japan and Linkin Park.
Since you already reacted to them, a good connection is also that they covered "Megitsune" by BabyMetal and both "Shimi" and "Zetsubo Billy" from Maximum the Hormone!
Ok cool! I think I'll probably do the Oiran live video next because it comes up in the comments so much.
There are live performance on UA-cam with these girls, and they do it darn well.. 🤘
Yeah she has an unusual scream but it's really interesting to me!
The first time I heard Mayu sing I thought that is one pissed off mountain lion.

Actually Haraguchi-san, the bassist, is not so small as mayu, the vocalist. I saw mayu picture with bass and somebody commented "Why do they make these basses so big?" :D
Nemophila members are not taking themselfes freaking serious.

"Non-constant in foreing culture" and "metamophosized cultural phenomenon" those are very clever ways to spell "Maximum the Hormone"
They are mostly the early songs and you Will see that on the Spotify monthly chart for the most played BAND-MAID songs that the old songs are equally as popular try FREEZER and SHAKE THAT and everything else PinD has.
They are definitely coming soon!

Many many reactors of the band did it at their first time, but it's maybe a natural mistake in this age of '-philia' and '-phobia' IMO
Yeah! Apologies for that! Rookie mistake.
She chose Sadowsky with Jazz profile and to her, its an instrument that can produce sounds of loud rock genres such as NEMOPHILA, yet is versatile and can be used widely
She had always lean towards Jazz bass due to its overall sound - more full, dynamic, and round tones.
Maybe a little screaming, he says...
😂
@@PrymalChaos if you want a good sample of Mayu's clean vocals, I recommend "Rosier". It's a cover of another Japanese band, Luna Sea.
I would certainly be interested in that.
Thanks Bert! Yeah part of the allure to me is seeing the music fed through a filter of culture. Very cool!
This song is more of a metalcore style, which was born (I think) in America. But they play several different styles and genres, and a lot of their music is more European in style than American, I would say.
If you wanna continue Falling down the Japanese Rabbit hole you should Check out Maxim The Hormone
Already did! ua-cam.com/video/elYL9IV8j6g/v-deo.html
i am a huge black and depressive black metal fan. and trust me is not unique. tons of women in black and depressive black metal as well. also in post-black metal which i also very much am a fan of. you have lots of women vocalists. so no women screaming is not something weird to me anymore. in fact i even prevere it most of the time over male screams.
You want Japanese metal. Listen to merging moon. Greyen. You'll thank me later
Oh they are well aware of Western Rock and have been for decades .... you are just discovering this. Japan is Rock since 1980!
I knew about all of the hair bands in the 80s killing it over there but I had no idea that they had such a powerful scene. It makes sense I guess
@@Greish-esquire That's great to hear. I wish more people opened their minds to new music.
Band-Maid is coming soon.
If you love the heavy stuff, may I introduce you to Hanabie: We love sweets lol enjoy
🤘😁🤘
great reaction thanks
for me the best song of nemophila is "revive" I hope you will, stay in Japan also listen to BAND - MAID, I recommend FREEDOM (Official Live Video), fantastic

Band Maid has to be next. There are so many comments about them.
Wrong: Nemophi-LIA
Right: Nemophi-LA 😉
If there was ever something I wish I could go back and change, it would be this mistake. 😆
Yes. Thank you! Apologies for the error! Such a cool band!
