I've travelled to Taiwan a couple of times and honestly couldn't fault Taiwanese hospitality and how polite most of them are. Always helpful and smiles at most times even in some cases if the shops could be crowded or simply if the service staff might be having a bad day, but they will ensure to welcome everyone with a certain level of friendliness. Of course there are a handful here and there or those extremely popular shops which don't have such top service - but that is probably just a very small minority. Watching your videos and tiktok videos do make me miss Taiwan.
As a Taiwanese, I recommended you to go to Tainan to try different dishes there because northern and southern Taiwan has different styles of cooking, the flavor in southern Taiwan is sweeter than northern, furthermore, there are so many famous dishes in Tainan that can only be taste in Tainan , such as beef soup(different from beef noodles because it’s made of very fresh beef) coffin breads, rice noodle soup with squid and eel noodles. There are different food that represents each cities, for examples, Gongwan and rice noodles represented Hsinchu, soy-stewed pork with rice and Taiwanese meatball(ba wan) represented Changhua and turkey rice represented Chaiyi. If you plan to stay about few weeks, to take trains around Taiwan is a very clever way to try every dishes in Taiwan! Hope you enjoy your trip 😆
I really think 'stinky' tofu is a misnomer. Fermented might be a better description. All the ones I've ever had have been great. Thanks for another great video. :)
Tofu has benefits in all aspects, it's healthy, friendly for the environment, a no-kill, a good protein source, and last but not least, it can be very delicious with good execution. Don't say tofu is bland and boring, it shouldn't get that much hate🙌
A fantastic question and something I never considered! I guess each place will ferment it differently. I’m sure the first location avoids meat. Glad you like the videos!
@ it was just when you explained the fermentation process and mentioned meat i automatically thought tofu was eaten by mainly vegetarians then in the vegetarian restaurant eating the tofu. Makes sense why it stinks tho being bathed for so long. Followed you for ages on insta love the UA-cam videos too. Fellow Scot 🏴
Hi, welcome to Taiwan. I’m Taiwanese and have never heard of meat being added to the stinky tofu fermentation process, but I see the description you gave is what’s shown on the stinky tofu English Wikipedia. On the Chinese Wikipedia for stinky tofu, there’s no mention of either milk or meat. It mentions traditionally a particular kind of vegetable (莧菜, pigweed or Chinese spinach)is used for the fermentation. But I’m sure there are different methods out there and regional differences. However I think nowadays in Taiwan vegetables are usually what’s used, or factories simply just use some sort of bacteria for a quick ferment. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay here. And hope that the weather clears up a bit. It’s been so gloomy and wet lately in Taipei. 😅
Both locations of where I ate are in the video description! Who else loves stinky tofu? 🤌🏻

They always say stinky tofu in Taiwan smells really bad. But it looks like it didn't bother you at all😅, love the vid
I was surprised at how good they both smelled to be honest 😅
