- Jemma is back with one of her absolute favourite recipes EVER. If like us you LOVE a chewy, peanutty bar, this is the bake for you! Delicious puffed rice & quinoa base bound together with peanut butter, golden syrup and brown butter, topped with a delicious dark chocolate ganache swirled with peanut butter - Make it and thank us later!!
BASE
60g of burnt butter
105g rice krispies
30g puffed quinoa
45g salted peanuts
165g soft light brown sugar
225g golden syrup
pinch sea salt
165g smooth peanut butter
TOPPING
175g dark chocolate (55%)
75g butter
20g golden syrup

My mom used to make these when I was a kid. They were called Sweet Marie Bars because they were a homemade dupe for the candy bar of the same name we had here in Canada.

Hi Jemma, this looks absolutely delicious and I have to try the recipe. One question though: Are the rice krispies sugared or are there some "natural" rice krispies which you use? Congratulations on the book - the recipes and the look are great. I have tried some so far.

This looks great! I'm always after gluten free options and I'm especially weak for peanut butter and chocolate ❤
Also it's nice to see another baker using tiny binder clips to keep parchment in place on tins! I regularly use buckwheat flour - which is possibly the stickiest thing in existence and doesn't even recognise the authority of silicone - and it's a fight to keep my cake liners in place otherwise

Wish I could make these but I'm kinda allergic to peanuts? Do you think using hazelnuts and hazelnut butter or biscoff spread instead?
I've been using biscoff as a great alternative to nut butter in a lot of peanut recipes and it surprisingly works most of the time 😀

I adore golden syrup but it’s so difficult to find here in Spain. Can I substitute it for Agave syrup? Thankssss

You can totally freeze them, just keep it airtight and let them come back to room temperature before eating!

For the sticky sauce, it’s temperature specific for any reasons?? I’m just curious, because when I make versions of this, I usually just melt till sauce is all combined 😊

What butter do you use?

Can you also use maple syrup? In Germany we don't have golden syrup
Maple syrup is a lot thinner than golden syrup so you wouldn't get the same texture, a closer alternative would be a light corn syrup!
Can u use date syrup or maple instead of golden syrup ?
Hey! We’ve not tried this with either of those syrups but I don’t see why they wouldn’t work 👌🏼, have a play around and let us know how you get on!

I made these today. Tadtecgreat .... but they are rock solid. I tried not pat down too much so they are very uneven. Do you 5hink I cooked the peanut goo too long. I took it off the heat at 112 °c. W8ll need to cut the piece into bite size to help keep the teeth in 😂

As sally and Dane are allergic, is is the raw peanuts or if it’s baked good. But if it’s in chocolate I noticed they eat chocolate and am curious why chocolate doesn’t affect them.
It was mentioned in a different video they are allergic to peanuts

@@RunrigFan Sorry I miss understood it. There are no peanuts in chocolate but if they ate chocolate with peanuts in they would have a reaction. I knew someone with a peanut allergy and he got a reaction when I used his phone after having peanut M&Ms
They're totally allergic, like can't have them, touch them, anything

I don't like peanuts (altho I love smooth peanut butter). I wonder if I could substitute with walnuts
If you like peanut butter but not the actual nuts you could just leave them out - or substitute with walnuts, whatever you like!
My chew goo keeps burning! I don't know how to get it up to 112 without it catching. Induction hob, setting 7 won't get it there, setting 8 = charred. And I'm not a fan of that burnt sugar taste. Any tips, please? ❤
Ok, answering my own query here but I've been experimenting so thought I'd share. I switched from a stainless steel pan to a non-stick, melted the stuff in a medium heat then turned the heat up and just kept stirring and scraping the bottom constantly so it never got a chance to stick. No burnt bits! 😅
I have a 7 inch tin witch I bought from your web site not sure what it was with. I have your book may need to invest in an 8 inch as all the tray bakes in the book are 8 inch 😂
