just picked up a 1963 dated 3000-1, well used but it sounds great, thanks for the tip about the dial light! i was wondering why the battery case had 3 wires!, im going to use 18650's 3=12v and a 1.5 AA holder for the light.
I have a 3000 that dad bought me in the 60s, but I need to repair it and it is 3000 miles away. I wanted the one you repaired because of its build date. In that case, if I was to buy another TO, it would be a 7000 for the BFO.
@@tomki6asp let me check my collection. I may be willing to let it go. Yes the 7000 is a sweetheart. Send me your email and we can talk. Koviatt@gmail.com.
@@hasankabakci8362 the caps that are usually bad are the ones surrounding the volume and tone controls. They are electrolytic caps. Be sure to observe polarity. I usually take a lot of pictures so that I get things correct. Let us know how it goes.
The 3000 is a very nice looking radio, with great sound. :)
Another great video Kent! Love the Zenith Transoceanic 3000 restore! Man that's quite a whip antenna!!
Those Sonys shortwaves from that era are notorious for having bad smd caps going bad on them.
Thank you Kent for share this video! 🙂
Thanks so much for this great video. I just picked one up with a similar issue. Will replace all the caps just to be sure.
@@retrotechmall terrific! How’s does it play?
"I won't be able to turn it in for warranty" 🤣🤣

Glad I could help.. It's a beautiful radio.
The 0.33 uf cap in the tone circuit had a soft plastic sleeve on it. Any idea why?
Insulation. It was placed in very tight.
Ken, I’d love to buy that TO3000. My wife was born on 11/10.
There are some available on eBay. I may have one that I can repair for sale as well.
