The first and second verses of this song are well-known for describing the quiet autumn atmosphere in a rural village, but this song had a different role when it was first published.
It was first aired by NHK Radio on December 24, 1945 for a program talking about Japanese civilians and soldiers returning from foreign countries after the war.
This song touched many people’s hearts, and in the next year it became the theme song of a radio program regarding the returners.
