Donkey Kong (Japanese: ドンキーコング Hepburn: Donkī Kongu?) is an arcade game released by Nintendo in 1981. It is an early example of the platform game genre, as the gameplay focuses on maneuvering the main character across a series of platforms while dodging and jumping over obstacles. In the game, Mario (originally named "Jumpman") must rescue a damsel in distress named Pauline (originally named Lady), from a giant ape named Donkey Kong. The hero and ape later became two of Nintendo's most popular and recognizable characters. Donkey Kong is one of the most important titles from the Golden Age of Video Arcade Games, and is one of the most popular arcade games of all time. - Ігри

You guys should check out "The King of Kong". It's basically a documentary about a guy trying to set the world record in Donkey Kong, and the entire culture and community surrounding these people into competitive retro gaming.bunch of 40+ year olds that never quit playing arcade games at the highest level. These guys are obsessed.
Theres also another one called Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade. Both are worth a watch for sure.
Sidenote: I've always been fucking horrible at this game. I could never get the timing for consistently jumping barrels right.
Anders Kristensen The King of Kong is a great movie and an awful documental, because they change many things and put some lies to make the movie more intense.

Great segment on this iconic game. I was barely born when this game came out, but I remember playing it as a kid. I loved the joystick and buttons on the cabinet. It allowed such tight controls. I was expecting the lunchroom game debate scene from Billy Madison to be in here...
Cool thing about Donkey Kong is that the direction you stand will affect the chance of a barrel rolling past a ladder or down it. As most seasoned DK players know, this is essential to play it well. :) - But as a gameplay mechanic thats really fantastic for such an early game. Many games never bother (and still dont) with this kind of code where a skilled player can affect the gameplay with their moves and such.
Remembering those days. Every chance I got, I went into an arcade to see what was new. Donkey Kong was always the top billing in those places.
Wow, I did not know that stuff about Nintendo and universal "donkey/King" Kong law suit.

i once watched ian walk into billy mitchell's restaurant and challenge his donkey kong record to his face, no lie. 100 screens in he's already got the record locked up and billy is just stuffing wing after wing into his face out of anger. all the sudden he starts choking on a bone and is frantically waving his arms in the air. ian turns from the game and says "looks like we got a kill screen coming up" and watches him die. cold as fucking ice.

Actually, if you look up the closest thing we have to Mario Bros lore, Mario actually laughed at DK when he saw him in the circus, so he remembered that when he busted out of his cage and kidnapped Pauline
The Pie Factory was admitted in almost every version of Donkey Kong except the Club Nintendo version of the game you got for registering Paper Mario Sticker Star on the 3ds.
Since the idea of Donkey Kong being Mario's pet was only mentioned in the instruction book of ONE PORT of the game, if safe to assume that's not canon.
One of the greatest games! Pat the NES Punk I know you don't like Galaga like I do... but we can agree here :)

Donkey Kong is a really good Arcade game, but to me, Mappy is the best Arcade game ever.

Universal Studio's lawsuit with Nintendo was a joke because Donkey Kong has nothing to do with King Kong aside from the fact that they don't own the name Kong.
