Japanese made post WWll. These kits were made by the thousands and brought home by soldiers. They are actually both fly and casting rods. The grip section could be removed and reversed to meet requirements. This kit is not complete. Value would be $50 at best.

Agree a master rod maker, which there are very few when it comes to bamboo, in fact, a master builder? There may not be any left. A proper bamboo rod made by a master craftsman can go for 4,000 up to 12,000, depending on how personalized it is. Believe me I have a few. A lot of things need to be taken into account, the guides are they proper bronze English snakes for example? What kind of bamboo is it, and where does it come from. And finally, the most important... who built it? At the end of the day, casting a well-built bamboo rod trumps everything else.

First, who made it? There are fly rods by some rodcrafters or brands that would bring top dollar. As mentioned here, they were available after WWII in the US. I paid $10 for mine in 1966. I restored one for a lady. She bought the rod at a flea market for nothing. I told her what I would charge. OK as she wanted it as a wall hanger.

    I read the replies. Close.
Just before the end of WWll, the USA knew we were going to be the victors. American companies were already negotiating with Japanese manufacturers for “stuff” to sell here. At the time Western Auto was into everything from car parts to ...whatever would sell. So, western auto contracted ..........among everything......Bamboo fly rods. They had a blue triangle shaped label. Four of my uncles and my dad served in the pacific. My grandmother had five sons in WWll.
There are still unpublished secrets of Japan and the USA. Look into flash bulbs for photography and Sylvania. Interesting. Well, I happen to have one of these bamboo fly rods from Japan right at the end. It needs some work, but I may be persuaded to sell it.

Anyone who is knowledgeable about quality bamboo fly rods knows that these boxed rods were brought back from Japan by GIs after the war by the hundreds and are considered pure JUNK. Their actual value is about $50 and they are poorly made and useless for any serious fishing because they come apart and delaminate easily. I fish high end bamboo rods like Orvis, Leonard, Sharpes and others and know what I am talking about. A lot of these boxed kits are labeled Grampus rods, but there were many like these and they are pure crap and worthless for real fishing. Don't be fooled by someone trying to sell you one.
