My favorite author's note is the person who said "this fic is dedicated to Juan, the IT guy at work who remotely took control of my computer and opened the Word doc for this fic in the middle of a saucy scene. In his honor, I've named a character after him." Poor Juan.
So this was in a avatar fanfic i read and I quote: "So, this fic is apparently IRL cursed... My house burned down. With lightning. If I was a more superstitious person, I would have taken that as a sign to stop writing this fic. But I'm too stupid. So, just in case lightning strikes me dead, I'm leaving this AN."
i've seen one like that! they updated during an active school shooting once (later changed the authors note bc the first one accidentally doxxed them). its been 2 months since their last update, maybe the curse finally won
Me on my fan fic: “I’ll be gone for a bit over a week, I’m going to Poland for a school trip with my history class. See you guys soon!” It’s been 8 years now
I am from Poland, and I can confirm that they got stuck here. They really want to come back, but unfortunately, I don't think they'll ever be able to 😔
Remember a post on tumblr with a screenshot of an ao3 note, it's like "Did some research on cults and coercive manipulation for Damian's cult arc and realized I was in a cult, run away to the other side of the state in a fishing town and forgot how to write, learning to write again." and in the last reblog the author popped up with resources on if you are in a cult or not
@@Terratomere Here, have a recpipe. 1. Chop some onions. (I think regular onions are better than red onions) 2. Put some oil, olive or butter on a pan. 3. Put the onions on the pan and cover with pan cover. Low/medium heat. (Depends on the stove I guess) 4. Leave the onions like that till they get more transparent and eventually carmelly-brownish, but stir the onions some times, so they don't stick to the pan. Onions naturaly have sugar in them, so by slowly heating them up, you make it so the sugar surfaces and THE SUGAR turns carmely. Works the same with pears in an oven, but with different cook time and stuff. Hope this helps. Edit: typos
i recently found an author's note that said, verbatim, "also bc i gave my creative writing prof my ao3, hi professor. if you're reading this, ngl this story is pretty cool and I've been using a lot of the tools you taught us for worldbuilding stuff with this one :)" and now i'm both TERRIFIED of and highly impressed by this writer lmao
I gotta write a note that's like: "This chapter is a week late. You think my house burned down, or my grandma died, or I got inquired in a car accident? Well, you're wrong. I'm just f***ing lazy and didn't feel like writing that week."
I wrote something like this. "I'd write an entire plot, but I usually don't have the time or energy to do so. So enjoy these random list of dialogue I made."
There was one i read where the note was something along the lones of, "my son, who was my beta reader, just died and i hope to finish the fic in his honor" it was finished
1:20 "Any mistakes are made out of pure hatred and disrespect for this language. The English have taken enough from this world, I will not let them have my tongue as well." They said, in _perfect_ English?
Wh... why not just write in your native language? Let someone else go through the work of translating, if reaching a bigger audience matters so much? Hah?
"As always, a stupid oneshot idea spiraled out of control, and now I've spent about 16 hours researching basic plumbing and carpentry repairs." Literally, I've stayed up late some nights researching names, pages and squires, chivalry, etc. For something that was originally just going to be one or two little comics about if This Character Dynamic was a little different. This story, and my obsession with it, has changed the shape and functionality of my physical body.
??????? They still get the point across, do they not????? And also, maybe most people in their fandom are English. Maybe they needed to practice writing in English. Maybe they got a friend to help with the authors note but still wrote the fic like normal. People can make political statements about their native languages being sanitized and taken over by English while still talking in English. How else would you understand them? I'm so sorry if my comment is being rude or degrading, I just can't wrap my head around the logic here. Are you trying to imply they're faking being a non-native speaker? What's the purpose here??
@@-Persephone_Wannabe-I edited the comment, since it sounded like I was focusing on the last sentence, when it was more the two sentences in tandem. And, honestly, I _don't_ think they get the point across. They claimed they would make mistakes intentionally, in a blurb with no discernable mistakes. They claim hatred and rejection of English, in a blurb of English, that's attached to something for leisure. _That's_ what's weird. Why write in English at all, for a _fanfic?_ I doubt they intend to practice, as they claim to want to make mistakes. Clearly the fic is written in English, because of the note telling people about mistakes beforehand, and by _their_ angered hand (based on the use of "I"). Only reason to write in English I can think of is if they want English speakers to see it. But why would they want that if they hate them so much???? This is _an author's note in a fanfic,_ not a political forum. I presume they're there to write something they enjoy, which is probably not only accessible in English. Because they probably wouldn't like it, based on what they've stated here. This is the weirdest, "English is not my first language" add-on ever. Because it is so passionately angry, while fully embracing that which it hates, in a space where that is unnecessary. And they end it by saying "The English will not have [their] tongue as well!" They clearly already do! They could've just said, "English isn't the first language, don't care to improve." But the words they use imply a fierce passion that their grammatically correct action doesn't reinforce??? In a place it's not needed????? I feel like I'm running in circles, but I'm having trouble describing it in a succinct way. And, obviously, we're working with a very limited amount of information with this blurb. It just seems like they're engaging with that which frustrates and limits them in a space that is supposed to be relaxing and rewarding. I just can't understand that. Granted, I don't have to deal with "English sanitization" personally, so I don't know what average life is like for those that do. But surely you can escape that online??? If you can't, fine, then this makes... some sense. If, as a sort of... empty revolution. It's just so angry for being so noncommittal. Dude, I hope this reply makes any sense.
@@bluelfsuma I’ve spent…. More time looking into the process of smithing a barrel, making gunpowder and other various explosives, and the process of ship building than I’d like to admit As for the nuclear side of my hyperfixations, I learned that years, almost a decade ago
It wasn't from AO3, but it was something along the lines of "If I suddenly disappear, it means I went to travel the multiverse. Let me know if you know someone from there, I will greet them" to describe the author being in a life-threatening situation because of a war. PS: I don't know where he is now, but he was relatively safe at the point when I found that
The curse is real. The day I started planning my (not yet published) fanfic I got hit in the head by a falling lamp. I'm half-convinced it was a sign to stop.
One of my favorite authors on AO3 was using fanfiction as a way to de-stress whike writing her thesis. A lot of her longtime readers, myself included, joked that one day we'd have to call her "Doctor" one day. We'll, we do, and now she doesn't post as much, but when she does, it's always amazing.
This sounds like one of the authors I've read, except she started writing several years before writing a thesis. So obviously I don't know which author this one is, but the one I'm thinking of is called Killthespare (on ao3)
A recent authors note that I found in the wild was: "Sorry this chapter is late. I got salmonella from kissing a frog that I found in my friend's pool. I wish I could make this up"
My personal favorite, from a chapter where the two love interests just barely missed each other: "Raise your hand if you wanna fight me. It's okay, I can take it."
Not a note but my mother once informed me: “I should start writing fan fiction..” after saying a particularly *smutty??* comment about two characters who HEAVILY dislike each other in the source material
there's this really nice fic of one piece live action called "dropped them bones" which follows sanji's pov, and every chapter he cooks, of course, and the author puts the recipes in every end notes, sometimes with more than one source. they do deserve to be praised.
My personal favorite: author's hard drive fried itself, and the notes for each subsequent chapter stated that they were written on increasingly rare computers/word processors. Said fic hasn't been updated in several months, but I have hope.
@@tinyshinyfeathers Nah, I was making a joke based on the meme of DOOM being played on really low-tech hardware. It'd be really funny if that was the case.
I remember an iconic (but pretty shit ngl) warrior cats fanfic where the author goes from homophobic to lesbian in the authors notes (i'm pretty sure it's a parody but holy shit was it so entertaining)
for everyone asking it's starkits prophecy i recomend reading it on wattpad for because of how the comments work on there (warning there's some minor homophobia in the early chapters) i also recoment reading dark roses version because theirs has the most views so the most comments
Every time I sit down to write a fic for AO3 I just sigh and think "Either someone close to me will die or I will ALMOST die" and yet that's never happened with any fics.
it never happened to me until this year but honestly i just think 2024 is cursed 🤔 went to the hospital twice the moment i thought about finishing chapter 7 and chapter 7 is now closing in on a year in progress
I'm not sure if this counts but what some writers say in their time skips. It's often like, "Time skip because I'm lazy," or they'll apologize for being lazy when they time skip. You don't have to explain or apologize. Time skipping is totally normal in stories. Although the one time I saw, "Viva la time skip," made me laugh. I also remember someone apologizing for not having the time to continue their fanfic when they hadn't even posted the first chapter yet.
The first novel of the most famous writter on my country was just random histories almost not related each other Every chapter has a time skip and the main nexus between them, the protagonist, has no or almost no presence on five of the eight chapters... even worst, on the eight chapter, that was released years after, on the final lines, a woman says "this was manuscript of Miguel Vera", and bro, only the three chapters that he protagonized and the one with the russian medic can be part of that manuscript, not even the last chapter Pds: correction, the chapter of the russian medic can not be part of his diary, because it has dialogues in a part, in that point, he was kilometters away and was a child
This was an ongoing fanfiction series about SpongeBob I read because I was incredibly bored. In chapter six it said “In chapter 5 page 2, Patrick threw away the scarf, I didn’t just up and forget about it.” The fact that this was probably written BECAUSE someone pointed it out is hilarious to me.
Not AO3, I think it was Fanfic net, but don't quote me on that: 1st note: "Sorry for the inconsistent schedule and the extra trauma, I'm in Ukraine rn." 2nd note: "One of my readers found me. I have groceries and mild paranoia about being stalked now. But thank you! Just don't do that again, I set up a patreon if you really want to help me out."
My favorite thing to see in writer notes will always be links to source materials and some context. Yes, I DO want to know what fae folklore you weaved into your story, or what historical wars you based your very detailed tactical battle on. On the other hand, I think the most memorable author's notes I recently read were from a spidypool fic where the entire notes were writen by Deadpool, with occatinal talks with the authors (the fic itself was Spiderman pov, so I guess he needed a place to brake the 4th wall).
That Deadpool idea is so clever omg, playing with the conventions of the source material is one of my favorite things about fanfic! I’m currently writing a (partly) MCU fic with my best friend and I’ve got a “post-credit” scene written that I’m gonna stick in our final author note •w•
"Okay so, of the catastrophes that I was experiencing when last chapter was posted, basically all of them have been resolved. I AM, however, currently living off grid somewhere in the mountains of northern France, which I know is insane, but it does mean that I have a ton of time to write. Not a lot of places to connect to internet though, so the next few chapters will likely be very spread out but also a little longer than the others. Please let me know what you think! This fic has the potential to go a lot of different directions, and your comments help me know how it's coming across."
i know this is unrelated but i have the most normal confession to make: it's been a long time since i detailed my fantasy world on a paper with cool drawings and concepts because i got a huge burnout and all of the ideas are only in my head now, but watching these videos are making me consider doing that again with charater descriptions like those plants vs zombies almanac entries.
@@usernametaken017 ngl i'm always so mad at yugioh cards having an effect, because that means that I don't get flavor text about the monster. I don't care what it does I wanna know that one fact about the monster.
Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates! I’ve been feeling… unmoored lately. You know when you find out your entire life is a simulation built by sentient machines, and you’re just a pawn in their power struggle? And then someone yanks you out of it and says, “Hey, none of it was real, but you might be the key to saving what’s left of humanity”? Yeah, that’s where I’ve been. It’s a lot to process, especially when you’re suddenly expected to fight in a cyber-war while dodging robot overlords and grappling with the fact that you can bend reality but only sometimes. I’ll try to get back to writing soon, but right now, the existential dread (and kung-fu training) is kind of taking priority. Thanks for understanding!
My favorite is something along the lines of: The previous chapter was supposed to be the last chaprer, but 3 chapters ago I thought it would be cool to continue, since I still had many ideas on how to continue the story. *15 chapters later* So the previous chapter was supposed to be the last chapter, but I kinda wssn't satisfied so I decided to continue. *20 chapters later* Okay so like I told myself I would write only 10, maybe 15 more chapters but somehow this ballooned to 20 chapters. There's only one chapter left, and epilogue. *there was indeed one chapter left. There were also five epilogues*
“This is possibly OOC and i'm sorry, I stopped my schizophrenia meds and this manifested on my laptop like an elder demon.” And “Dedicated to my future partner, whoever they may be -- im actively looking for you, you fucker, come slow dance with me” Both of these made me laugh out loud when I encountered them. Never seen authors notes so funny before lmao
0:48 Story of my life right there! I’m currently working on a fic that has gone semi-viral within the fandom (recognition in random comment sections, fanart for the fic, and even a few speculations that I’m secretly the show’s creator pulling a prank on fans). When I started it almost four months ago, my longest fic was ~5700 words across 7 chapters. Feeling a bit ambitious, I estimated that this fic would have around 12 chapters, but it turns what I thought was the climax was actually the _inciting incident!_ Yesterday, I published chapter *_104_* and I’m not even halfway done! This is definitely a WILF, but even with me continuing to post 3-4 chapters a week, it would probably take until next summer if not longer!
the best fics always have a struggling college student from a foreign country who write long updaes about their lives in their notes. my favorite fanfic has this and the author updaes quite irregularly... first chapter was 2020 and the second to last chapter is supposed to be next but the second to last was a few months ago 😅
You live in Louisiana, happens all the time there. OP is lucky though; many people, even ones who are experienced with the swamps, don't make it back out for a number of reasons(mostly drowning).
I'll always remember that one Batman fic where there was a long break between chapters, and the author comes back apologizing because they realised they grew up in a cult and needed to kinda deal with that.
I once read the saying: "If you become an AO3 autor, be ready for the y/n lifestyle, cuz tragedy will follow you everywhere the momemt you create the account." After reading these notes and some other more, and also posting a translation for a fic, i can grantee this is some kind of curse
Can I get y'all's curses? I've got the whole effing backstory for being a main character in at least a crappy isekai and my dad had a proper showa era toku hero's backstory, but the most exciting that's happened to me in the last 5 years is that I finally had a cool ass aura migraine and I liked the stripey wobbly thing that it made my vision do in one eye. (A+ I'll take the zebra print tear into reality over wanting to shove my head in the frozen blueberries, on that note, along with the AO3 excitement/calamity curse, if someone with the weird aura migraines wants to offload them onto me.)
"me last year: some fluff, they all celebrate the holidays together :) me this year: me this year: percy fights a t.rex. tony is a reindeer whisperer. nat dreams of jailbreaks. SWORD yearns for revolution. bucky kills santa. peter takes to the skies." the authors note from the side crack fic to the best PJOxMARVEL crossover work ever
i beg you for a link, i am but a poor orphan boy who needs ta pay back the fanfic mob. it was my mother's last wish before she died of tuberculosis for me to read a beautiful pjoxmarvel fic before the tuberculosis finally got me too.
OMGS THE FILE! I HAVE FOUND MY PEOPLE! Folks, fear no longer! The AU is called The File, and the side crackfic is called The File: Dumb Texts Behind the Scenes!
One of my fic's chapters had ended on a cliffhanger, and since I knew my audience would be absolutely devastated I put, " Anyway, no I am not sorry for the cliffhanger ending and I will enjoy drinking your guy's tears with my cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning :3" I ended up updating the fic very soon afterwards because I had a bunch of motivation left over, but I still think about that note sometimes
I had one chapter that was a major cliffhanger, so I actually posted two chapters in one file, so there'd be no delay between the cliffhanger and things getting better. Only time I did that. Most of my chapters have "a fixed set of tags for the series plus one bonus/joke tag". "Princess Tells Her Story" chapter 15, the first chapter of Book 2, ends on a cliffhanger of her owner being banished to another world before her eyes, and has the tag "Dude_Wheres_My_Owner". Chapter 16, which ends with her following him to Earth and getting hit by a car and blacking out, has the tag "You_Thought_Last_Cliffhanger_Was_Bad". Chapter 19 and 20 were posted together, with 19 having "Adventures_In_Making_a_Dragon_Cry" and 20 having "Fantasy_Fiction_Double_Feature" due to it being a two-in-one upload. (Unrelated but personally amusing to me, 22 gets "Blue_Dragon_Needs_Therapy_Badly" and 29 gets "Princess_Finally_Gets_Some_Actual_Therapy". Also, "Exodimensional Hoofbun Flopsy" has a character who's basically a Columbo expy, and the chapter that introduces him has "Just_One_More_Tag". Early in Book 2, which introduces her Mysterious Evil Twin, chapter 18 has "Any_Superhero_Story_Needs_An_Evil_Twin". I amuse myself with these things far more than I should.)
This indescribable horror in your heart, when you are AO3 author, see a note in the video that starts like one of the notes you left, and even less describable relief, when the second sentence is different.
AO3 authors will go through the most traumatizing events that would break even the most iron-willed of a person and the only thing they’d be upset about is not being able to update their BakuDeku fic on schedule
My own ao3 note, actually. Essentially, it went something like "sorry i havent uploaded, i swear i didnt forget this time, my mum had a mental breakdown and i found out my dad's still alive. Unrelated incidents. Anyway heres the chapter, enjoy"
I first started writing "Princess Tells Her Story" to be something like a basic lore doc of the character. The way her species of dragon worked, the world she's from, how she ended up a dragon (being a former human), stuff like that. I started hitting 10 pages, saw I was over 6k words in, and thought "Dang, I guess I better break this up. I guess it'll be two, MAAAYBE three parts." I'm a little more than halfway through the third novel in that series, having posted 38 chapters so far totaling 268,488 words. With another 24 chapters / 163,158 words so far in "Exodimensional Hoofbun Flopsy" (set in the same setting), 17 chapters / 129,945 words so far in "Modern Major Yinglet" (a fanfic based on the webcomic "Out of Placers" by Valsalia but set in modern-day Earth), and one chapter / 6,424 words so far of "Cinnabar: The Dragon of Eden" (set five years after Princess book 3 ends, but very dark). Grand total of 80 chapters / 568,015 words. This year's been a mess between health and stress, so I've barely gotten anything out this year. So over half a million words in my first two years. ^_^;;
I know of one as well, but the actual story ended at 135 chapters, but the author then added an additional 15 chapters of after story just so it would end up being 10 times larger than originally planned cause it would be funny
My great grandma died and to cope I ended up writing (and posting) a chapter at her wake. Recognizing the hilarity of it all, I did put it in my author notes. I am officially an AO3 author
It was something like "Ale let me write an editor's note, i recall that i only checked the caligraphy and am thankful that my name is not on the credits"
6:24 Genuinely one of my favourite memories is being in the bar on Preston station when she resigned and half the people in there (there were a lot, usual Avanti delays) cheered when she stepped down. Was a good start to a fantastic weekend.
My favorite note I've ever posted was when I was manic and posted a really sad chapter the night prior "HI I'M SORRY FOR THE TRAUMATIC CHAPTER LAST NIGHT THINGS ARE BETTER IN THIS CHAPTER"
8:24 THIS SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING I WOULD PUT IN MY NOTES LOL! I’m an absolute gremlin of a fic writer in the Hermitcraft/Life Series fandom, and I too have problems with my hands slipping and accidentally typing out around 4308 words that merely fall into the general category of angst. It’s not like I *intentionally* make my favorite characters (Tango and Impulse) have a no good very bad time and give them the most devastating trauma they’d need a life sentence to therapy for :) I just sneeze or close my eyes for a second and it spontaneously happens, it’s not _my_ fault they’re mentally unstable
Would like to share the fact that on two entirely unrelated occasions, fanfics i was planning to make where canceled because of a hurricane and hurricane induced power outage! (I live in florida)
I got hit with the curse, and my next author's note was two paragraphs of me trying to list all the horrible stuff that had happened to me over the course of the month. I would go on to get... more hit with the curse. I'm a bad ao3 writer bc it did, in fact, cause me to go on hiatus.
Can I have your curse, I'll take the calamity over just having the mundane issue of researching too hard and ending up with 10GB of literal scholarly research papers and books stopping me from writing because the research is too fun
I’m guilty of outrageous author notes lol “When I get hungry, I get crabby. And when I get crabby, people die, and those are the lucky ones.” I don’t know WHERE that came from
I'm afraid that most of my authors notes are just me casually dropping all of the shit that happens to me. Like yeah, I wrote this chapter in the hospital whilst literally having chemotherapy, sorry if the formatting is a little weird from my phone.
A Note that I found: So I found a cursed Wings of Fire ship between Darkstalker (2K years old) & Moon (4-6 years old) The authors note was: I had Dimentia while writing this. LOL WHAT YOU MADE THEM HAVE CHILDREN AND YOU HAD ‘DIMENTIA’ WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU
i dont think this is what he was talking about, gonna be honest. also the world is conspiring against me to make me remember my musical phase and i despise it for that
One of my favorite notes from AO3 recently was: “I’m a plague to this fandom, and you’ll never get rid of me” She’s been writing for a VERY long time in the fandom (Transformers-mainly G1) and is honestly one of my favorite, yet most unhinged writers I read anything from. The comments even say things like “no no, you’re our crazy blessing”😂
I think one of the worst notes I ever left on mine was “I hate this story and my writing and life. Goodbye.” And then I completely vanished for like five years or so.
i once read a fic with an entire complicated sandwich recipe in the notes. lots of ingredients. to this day i still want to try the famed murphy special from the *checks notes* fic about time travel and stds!
There are two kinds of fanfic author: * 'Sorry this chapter is 2 hours late; I broke my arm in 4 places' * Sorry about disappearing for 2 years; life was busy lol'
I read a fic where a character got a concussion via being kick in the head by a horse. One or two chapters later, the author apologised for the slow update because they, coincidentaly, had gotten a concussion after being kick in the head by a horse.
My favorite author update was a full chapter. The author said they were going to prison and were gonna try to get their mom to post new chapters for them. Hasn't been a new chapter since, so who knows what's going on.
my favorite author's notes that i have come across was one when author said that they weren't dead but was sneaking their friend out of the their country because he was wanted by the government
Not sure the exact text but, “This fic is for LorenFangor, who was going to write it but wasn’t sure when, if ever.” Or something of the sort. I totally forgot about the fic idea before I ever saw the fic they posted. Which I saw exactly five years later to the day.
read a fic where the author shared every little detail about their life in the end notes and i honestly think i became more invested in the notes than the fic 😭😭 it would be the most random stuff too- like buying a new shirt or their tummy hurting but then all of a sudden theyd be talking about how their psychiatrist said they were a sociopath so they decided to get a new psychiatrist. then they found out they had a stalker, THEN like two chapters later revealed the stalker was THEIR DAD. the best one was at the end of a chapter where the character's dad was shitty and the authors note was "speaking of bad fathers!! i wasn't able to press charges against my own" 💀💀💀
I remember a fic that ended on the omninous note of the writer apologizing for no updates after a loooong time of going silent because he got hospitalized by salmonella from bad chicken, describing symptoms I recognized sounded like a more debilitating form of Reiter's Syndrome.
My favourite would probably be when i was reading wattpad and the author at the start of the chapter saying "y'all need to know that i uploaded this chapter not because some house burned down, somebody died,or i died. Its beacause i got to know that the donkey nextdoor was being abused and i called the blue cross on the people who did it to the poor ass" and i was like WHAAAT???💀👌
I ONCE READ A FF THAT COULD RIVAL SHAKESPEARE AND ON THE LAST CHAPTER, THE NOTE SAID LIKE "sorry guys but this'll be the last chapter of this fic, I'm 15 and have to escape my country alone" LIKE WHAT??? DUDE DO YOU NEED HELP??
Not a note but a whole chapter on a 75 chapters fic about how their cats Nico & Perseus died :( Thankfully, most, if not all of the comments for that chapter were sympathetic to them! (They chose to go hiatus b/c their writing abilities were deteriorating with their grief)
Agter not updating for a long time, the author applogized for making people think the work was abandoned. This was why: "Long story short: I have cancer. The good news is I’m not gonna die from it, the annoying news is that’s it’s been sapping my energy very hard for a very long time and I’ve had no energy to do much of anything."
The rocks flying across the screen for the "if you wanted to throw rocks at my head before" is a nice touch! Also re: 1:35 : I appreciate the author's moxie but sincerely hope that they are writing other fic in their mother tongue as well - I feel like that's a better way to fight against the language having their tongue than doing all of their writing in it. Just did a search and roughly 46,7% of the fics on ao3 are marked as being in English and the rest are in all other languages combined - let's raise our percentage(s) together!
I want to become an ao3 author but then get videos like this on my feed and back away slowly on my hands and knees like a character from an American horror movie trying to evade the killer while uselessly trying to stop the inevitable
Speaking as an Ao3 author, it’s really not all that bad!! The worst that happened when I got hit by the curse (and a car) was some scraped palms and bruises, it really traumatized my fiancé more than it did me XD
My personal favorite I’ve ever seen out in the wild was when they lost their home to a hurricane and then their neighbor tried to kill them with a propane tank
my 2 favorites are "sorry i disappeared for two months i was too busy thinking of shadow the hedgehog" and "as a law student i dont support such unprofessional behaviour from an executive force as a certified freak however..."
I was reading a fic and the last authors note was rambling about the size of stuff in sci fi shows and how big certain things in space are. It was very fascinating
The author of a fic I read disappeared for over a year, when she came back was like “sorry guys for being late, both of my parents died from covid and I moved to another city” wild, the fic is still not done, hope she is ok
"Some people write fanfic as a love letter to canon. This is hate mail"
ISTG I've seen a VERY similar one, regarding the Miraculous Ladybug fandom.
"I have so much to complain about!"
@@RosaLev9 Miraculous fans are like. ten times better than the actual writers for the most part lmao
@Hazelliliies Absolutely. 100000%. I've heard CHILDREN Miraculous fans give better ideas on how to do things, than the writers themselves do.
@@RosaLev9 Frrrr like the idea is fantastic but it's executed poorly
My favorite author's note is the person who said "this fic is dedicated to Juan, the IT guy at work who remotely took control of my computer and opened the Word doc for this fic in the middle of a saucy scene. In his honor, I've named a character after him." Poor Juan.
this one's hilarious
NOOOO JUAN

As an IT support person myself, I wanna know how it happened... But also just in case that's why I ask users to open the files themselves if needed
In memoriam
So this was in a avatar fanfic i read and I quote:
"So, this fic is apparently IRL cursed... My house burned down. With lightning. If I was a more superstitious person, I would have taken that as a sign to stop writing this fic. But I'm too stupid. So, just in case lightning strikes me dead, I'm leaving this AN."
Somehow me copying the AN is also cursed cz wtf is this
Gonna edit it so it looks readable
@MeLoNarXo yo but did they update? I had one person who said something similar and they havent posted since 2017
Azula’s ghost must have gotten mad at them 😂
Pretty sure the fanfics namè is Burn the world down with it being a gamer fic with Khan a fire nation soldier being the MC
I know a fic where the author's update schedule was "Whenever something interesting happens in my life" It was updated fairly regularly
That's what I would do lol
That is hilariously concerning
i've seen one like that! they updated during an active school shooting once (later changed the authors note bc the first one accidentally doxxed them). its been 2 months since their last update, maybe the curse finally won

You could put little sugar on onions and caramelize it
@@realdragonwhy would you put sugar on them? They are already sweet if you just carmelize them for long enough.
is it not?
(i have absolutely no idea what caramelizing is)
@@Terratomere Here, have a recpipe.
1. Chop some onions. (I think regular onions are better than red onions)
2. Put some oil, olive or butter on a pan.
3. Put the onions on the pan and cover with pan cover. Low/medium heat. (Depends on the stove I guess)

1:20 "Any mistakes are made out of pure hatred and disrespect for this language. The English have taken enough from this world, I will not let them have my tongue as well."
They said, in _perfect_ English?
Wh... why not just write in your native language? Let someone else go through the work of translating, if reaching a bigger audience matters so much? Hah?
"As always, a stupid oneshot idea spiraled out of control, and now I've spent about 16 hours researching basic plumbing and carpentry repairs."
Literally, I've stayed up late some nights researching names, pages and squires, chivalry, etc.

I have named chapters "A Time Skip Filler" and "Time Skip 2: Encanto Boogaloo"
The first novel of the most famous writter on my country was just random histories almost not related each other
Every chapter has a time skip and the main nexus between them, the protagonist, has no or almost no presence on five of the eight chapters... even worst, on the eight chapter, that was released years after, on the final lines, a woman says "this was manuscript of Miguel Vera", and bro, only the three chapters that he protagonized and the one with the russian medic can be part of that manuscript, not even the last chapter
Pds: correction, the chapter of the russian medic can not be part of his diary, because it has dialogues in a part, in that point, he was kilometters away and was a child

One of my fic's chapters had ended on a cliffhanger, and since I knew my audience would be absolutely devastated I put, "
Anyway, no I am not sorry for the cliffhanger ending and I will enjoy drinking your guy's tears with my cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning :3"
I ended up updating the fic very soon afterwards because I had a bunch of motivation left over, but I still think about that note sometimes
I saw one that was like
"Im getting married today!!!! so this chapter might be late, hope you enjoy!"
And it made my day
Apparently, there’s an AO3 fic where the author notes that she just got married and she’s updating from the venue, still in her wedding dress.
I love those types of AN!
1:05 this reminds me of a fanfic I found that was originally meant to have 15 chapters just for it to end up with 150.
I first started writing "Princess Tells Her Story" to be something like a basic lore doc of the character. The way her species of dragon worked, the world she's from, how she ended up a dragon (being a former human), stuff like that. I started hitting 10 pages, saw I was over 6k words in, and thought "Dang, I guess I better break this up. I guess it'll be two, MAAAYBE three parts."
I'm a little more than halfway through the third novel in that series, having posted 38 chapters so far totaling 268,488 words.
With another 24 chapters / 163,158 words so far in "Exodimensional Hoofbun Flopsy" (set in the same setting), 17 chapters / 129,945 words so far in "Modern Major Yinglet" (a fanfic based on the webcomic "Out of Placers" by Valsalia but set in modern-day Earth), and one chapter / 6,424 words so far of "Cinnabar: The Dragon of Eden" (set five years after Princess book 3 ends, but very dark). Grand total of 80 chapters / 568,015 words. This year's been a mess between health and stress, so I've barely gotten anything out this year. So over half a million words in my first two years. ^_^;;

@@Legendarial Idk man. They’ve been around since at least s7 (best author imo is either Stormsaia or AutumnPolaroids :3)
Yall accidentally type angst? Me and my brain accidentally cook up angst that wouldn’t leave my head lol
My favorite author once put on an author note the time they literally walked into a crime scene with a dead guy before promptly calling the police
1:20 who is this Diva?? 💜
I’m guilty of outrageous author notes lol
“When I get hungry, I get crabby. And when I get crabby, people die, and those are the lucky ones.”
I don’t know WHERE that came from
I'm afraid that most of my authors notes are just me casually dropping all of the shit that happens to me. Like yeah, I wrote this chapter in the hospital whilst literally having chemotherapy, sorry if the formatting is a little weird from my phone.
A Note that I found:
So I found a cursed Wings of Fire ship between Darkstalker (2K years old) & Moon (4-6 years old)
The authors note was: I had Dimentia while writing this.
LOL WHAT YOU MADE THEM HAVE CHILDREN AND YOU HAD ‘DIMENTIA’
WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU
LMAO WHAT
LOOK UP MOONSTALKER SHIPS
@@colorfulmarbles156 I KNOW THEY EXIST BUT THE DEMENTIA PART IS WHAT'S THROWING ME ON A LOOP
Might want to note that WOF ages translate differently and moon’s like 14-17 😭 still gross though like what
Moonstalker shippers scare me
My favourite is "Sorry for being gone, I fell down the stairs with my baby" 😭
I remember one of mine was basically "*rocks up with starbucks after 3 years* someone wanted a chapter 2?"

“For shame”

i dont think this is what he was talking about, gonna be honest.
also the world is conspiring against me to make me remember my musical phase and i despise it for that
@@youtubechicken120 I mean, obviously it's NOT what he was talking about, it just reminded both me and the first person about that song

One of my favorite notes from AO3 recently was: “I’m a plague to this fandom, and you’ll never get rid of me”
She’s been writing for a VERY long time in the fandom (Transformers-mainly G1) and is honestly one of my favorite, yet most unhinged writers I read anything from.
The comments even say things like “no no, you’re our crazy blessing”😂
I'm so curious! Will you tell me who? I'm in the Transformers Fandom, too. (Mostly Prowl and Jazz.)
Please share the name i need more transformers fics in my life!
You have my attention
I think one of the worst notes I ever left on mine was “I hate this story and my writing and life. Goodbye.” And then I completely vanished for like five years or so.
i once read a fic with an entire complicated sandwich recipe in the notes. lots of ingredients. to this day i still want to try the famed murphy special from the *checks notes* fic about time travel and stds!
Please share the fic name!
@@SilentProti Screw the fic I want the recipe!!!
Honestly, some author's notes could appear in soap operas.
There are two kinds of fanfic author:
* 'Sorry this chapter is 2 hours late; I broke my arm in 4 places'
* Sorry about disappearing for 2 years; life was busy lol'
I read a fic where a character got a concussion via being kick in the head by a horse. One or two chapters later, the author apologised for the slow update because they, coincidentaly, had gotten a concussion after being kick in the head by a horse.
2:50 I have never seen "constipated" used to describe miscommunication before lmao 😂
I saw one that said “I’m procrastinating on two essays and stressing myself out low key lmaooooo so here have another chapter.”
read a fic where the author shared every little detail about their life in the end notes and i honestly think i became more invested in the notes than the fic 😭😭
it would be the most random stuff too- like buying a new shirt or their tummy hurting but then all of a sudden theyd be talking about how their psychiatrist said they were a sociopath so they decided to get a new psychiatrist. then they found out they had a stalker, THEN like two chapters later revealed the stalker was THEIR DAD.
the best one was at the end of a chapter where the character's dad was shitty and the authors note was
"speaking of bad fathers!! i wasn't able to press charges against my own" 💀💀💀
I remember a fic that ended on the omninous note of the writer apologizing for no updates after a loooong time of going silent because he got hospitalized by salmonella from bad chicken, describing symptoms I recognized sounded like a more debilitating form of Reiter's Syndrome.
1:28 As a native English speaker, this is a fucking mood.
Not a note but a whole chapter on a 75 chapters fic about how their cats Nico & Perseus died :(
Thankfully, most, if not all of the comments for that chapter were sympathetic to them! (They chose to go hiatus b/c their writing abilities were deteriorating with their grief)
Agter not updating for a long time, the author applogized for making people think the work was abandoned. This was why:
"Long story short: I have cancer. The good news is I’m not gonna die from it, the annoying news is that’s it’s been sapping my energy very hard for a very long time and I’ve had no energy to do much of anything."
7:02 sounds like something a murderer would say in an attempt to cover their tracks.
@@EclipseDoesArt You’re not very good at reassuring people I’ll be honest-
@@forgetful-friend does it help if I cross my heart that I was totally fine? XD
My personal favorite I’ve ever seen out in the wild was when they lost their home to a hurricane and then their neighbor tried to kill them with a propane tank
my 2 favorites are
"sorry i disappeared for two months i was too busy thinking of shadow the hedgehog"
and
"as a law student i dont support such unprofessional behaviour from an executive force
as a certified freak however..."
I was reading a fic and the last authors note was rambling about the size of stuff in sci fi shows and how big certain things in space are. It was very fascinating
I'm so happy the only "curse" that made me slow down writing fanfictions was to become a father and then publish my first novel xD
“Sorry I was gone for a few months I fell about 100 feet down a mountain and almost died but I was hospitalized for a few months sorry guys”
The author of a fic I read disappeared for over a year, when she came back was like “sorry guys for being late, both of my parents died from covid and I moved to another city”
wild, the fic is still not done, hope she is ok
hello. i'm here to remind you that arson is sometimes bad :D
sometimes
Something I’ve seen a lot but understand appreciate much is the note “don’t like it, don’t read”
And this one time I found out halfway through the fic that the lady writing it was 50 with grandkids and it kinda spooked me
