This is an excellent interpretation from a great Strauss interpreter. The phrasing is natural and unmannered, the vocal line even and supremely controlled and intonation exceptional. Popp can be considered with Schwarzkopf, Janowitz and Norman as one of the finest singers of this exceptional Lied.
A similar performance to that from Margaret Price, so it just depends which voice you prefer. For me, Elisabeth Schumann surpasses both in her sense of love for the music. I also feel that Schwarzkopf and della Casa offer some thing more personal. But perfection should never be taken for granted. and this is certainly perfect.

i have just discovered her and so far i have been in love with Normans version but Popps absolutely equals hers.
