      iLikeTheUDK To be fair, it's a little more acceptable to skip MOST of 1-8 due to having over 600 episodes in the classics, as long as you watch at least one of their episodes I think it's fine.

      Exactly. It's easy to bash him for how quickly he left, but at the end of the day, he gave the series a perfect reintroduction, and I can't think of many actors available at the time who could've pulled off the experience of being damaged by the Time War like he did.

    It was kind of a blessing in disguise that Christopher Eccleston was only around for one season. Because for anyone new, it taught them one of the biggest parts of the series from an early stage. That being the Doctor's ability of regeneration. I'd have loved for him to stay on longer, but the fact that his tenure was so short made it possible to establish important aspects of the show to a younger/newer audience, pretty much from the get-go.

    • @cement_eater

      Even besides Eccleston's departure, Series 1 was (and is) a great introduction because it contains pretty much every kind of doctor who story. Base under siege, historical figure cameo, standard alien invasion, mandatory Dalek episode, filler, horror, & ofc regeneration

    I remember when "Rose" aired, I was at a friends house and we watched it with his family, when the intro came on everyone jumped and cheered and I distinctly remember my friend's dad was crying, actually crying tears of joy, he used to watch the show as a kid and when that haunting melody came on, to him it must have felt like an old friend had come back home. This is my favorite title opening from the New Who era. Idk if I'm biased, but I love how simple it is. The music blended in the classic tune of the Classic Who era with a nice modern update. A great way to bring Doctor Who into the 2000s. Plus the 9th Doctor was my first doctor and Christopher Eccleston is (forgive me) FANTASTIC!

      But yes. 2005 was a good year.

    • @arahman56
      @arahman56 9 років тому +2

      CelticPred1997 That's the draw of Doctor Who though. There's episodes that are decent, some that aren't quite there, and then there's episodes that are downright amazing (Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Silence In The Library/Forest of the Dead, Midnight, Human Nature/Family of Blood, The Doctor's Wife, Listen).

    • @CelticPred1997
      @CelticPred1997 9 років тому +2

      arahman56 Ooh now there's an argument starter. ;p
      Midnight - I wouldn't call amazing. I'd say it's one I can appreciate, and get the concept that's being portrayed. But not one I particularly enjoy. It would come near the bottom of my list of RTD episodes.
      Human Nature/Family of Blood - Firstly, I think those episode names should be swapped round. I think despite 'Family of Blood' sounding more threatening, 'Human Nature' encompasses the human emotional element of the episodes, and therefore is somewhat more dramatic.
      Secondly, like with 'Midnight' it's not one I overly enjoy. It seems to be one of those stories that people tend to either really enjoy or really not care for. I really liked the emotional element of the episodes. Not so much Martha's, but the Doctor's/John Smith's. The villains of the episodes though I wouldn't say were that interesting, so that's really why I don't overly love it. I also think the ending, with the Doctor dealing with the Family of Blood, is really harsh and out of character.
      The Doctor's Wife - Ooh now here's one I hate. The episode in terms of story is pretty boring. It is the characterisation of the Tardis though that makes me hate it. That is not at all how I would think a humanised Tardis would act. It doesn't really fit at all, I think, with what I've seen in the past; the heart of the Tardis for example, making it seem like some mysterious being (as opposed to a general Moffat female). Steven Moffat always has major female roles as flirty (he just changes the degree of flirt slightly) and sometimes unpredictable (usually they're a villain though). I know the episodee's not written by Moffat but the characterisation is much the same. Also, I didn't/don't think of the Tardis as having a gender. Obviously, it's sometimes refered to as a female, as are vehicles generally. But I just thought of it as living. No gender.
      'Listen' - An interesting one. I thought it started off amazingly. It was on its way to becoming my favourite Moffat era episode by far. But after about a third of the way through it got a bit worse. And the ending ruined it entirely for me. The creature, whatever it was, could have been a really interesting, great villain. But a big opportunity was missed there when they decided that it never existed (or as some people think, it may or may not exist).
      And if something is not done about Clara's story, in terms of Danny, and Orson Pink, I will oh so hate this episode. No matter how much Moffat tries to justify it, it was made clear that Orson was the grandchild, or great grandchild, of Clara.
      My opinion of great episodes:
      The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit
      The Girl in the Fireplace
      Army of Ghosts/Doomsday
      Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel
      The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances
      Dalek
      School Reunion
      Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead
      I don't necessarily enjoy 'Dalek' as much as the others here, and obviously in terms of story it's not greatly detailed, but it is great in terms of presentation of the Dalek.
      'School Reunion' on the other hand, isn't great in any particular aspect, other than adressing the issue of the Doctor leaving companions behind. But it's a very enjoyable episode, so I thought it had to be here.

    The odd thing about these titles was how the logo used in the main titles didn't match any of the other Doctor Who branding at the time, it all used the end title 'next time' logo. The TARDIS model still looks good. The actors' credits do make me think of Word art a little bit.

    I've watched a video with a cut of essentially every opening made for this series - and I feel this intro is bloody amazing. We all know what *ahem* the 'hyperspace' effect represents, the Tardis is clearly visible, the music is renowned, and that 0:13 moment... cherry on top.

    funny story; I was watching my cartoon then suddenly I got bored and went on the BBC channel thinking: "hopefully there is some good things going on there" when (at the exact moment I pressed the button to change channel) I arrived there when suddenly the announcer on the TV said: "tuning now BBC Doctor Who" my dad was cooking as he heard it and said: "wait what?!" and then the intro went on. He screamed "OH MY GOD" so loud that all could hear him in the house and my mom knew exactly what was going on. It was Nine that brought back and re-kickstarted the Doctor Who adventures to my family and the world itself.
    We can show him respect, he gets mine for sure! he is fantastically awesome for making my dad so happy about his childhood franchise returning and I owe him my family’s happiness.
