My favourite Savage Garden song. I think as a woman who has struggled with upbringing issues affecting my adult life, I've always connected with this song. I think with repeat listens, you guys will love this even more. It's special.
A very special song to me. Our first dance song at our wedding 4 months ago, after over 20 years together. On the face of it, not the most conventional wedding song. However, we have both always loved the song individually, and we were both bullied and ostracised growing up, so the lyrics speak to us about being left out etc. We've both always had a thing for stuff about space. We found our 'planet' when we were 17 so we can relate to the song in that way. Cheesy it may be but I don't care! I wish Affirmation was on this list as I love the message of that one too. Hope you react to that in future! Same with Crash and Burn.
Great reaction! They have so many bangers! Check their music videos to 'Crush and Burn', 'Hold Me', 'Affirmation' and 'Break Me, Shake Me'. Savage Garden are actual legends. Darren wrote incredible lyrics, and Daniel's production made them timeless hits.
He has a great voice, love this melody! 🎶🎵 I am not sure, but I think I have heard this one, I have only heard a few songs by them including Truly, Madly, Deeply.❤
There have been three different music videos for the song. The first, accompanying the Australian release of the song, was directed by Catherine Caines and Chris Bentley, and was shot in black and white. This version features Hayes and Jones performing on what appears to be a space vessel, whilst a female passenger watches. The second, accompanying the United States and original United Kingdom release of the song, was directed by Nigel Dick, and features Darren and Daniel performing in an apartment in Malibu whilst a female records the performance. It was filmed between 17 and 18 April 1997. This American video features Hayes with long hair. The third version was filmed in New York and features a sad-looking teenage girl traveling by the metro to meet her friends (apparently other misfits like herself). This video features Hayes with short hair, and is the most well-known of the three versions. A version of the video accompanied by a dance remix of the track was also released, which included some footage of the second video.
We need ”Break Me, Shake Me” as a ”one off” or a week 2. And why not a Darren Hayes (from Savage Garden) week with songs like Insatiable, Strange Relationship, So Beautiful (-Spike’s Album Version), Creepin’ Up On You and Black Out The Sun
I don’t know if any other song lays out Complex Trauma so well…this one makes me cry every time. 😢 The Yin to this Yang for me is Crash and Burn 🔥 The name Savage Garden always sort of makes me think of The Secret Garden, and when u grow up and revisit your childhood or attempt to deal with your reality, the whole experience can be quite Savage.
Australia still has "pay" phones, not as many as before but still accessible for every community (There is one half a block away from me). They are free to use for local, national and mobile calls...only international calls are charged.
There's actually 3 different versions of this song. This one that y'all listened to is the extended version. There's a shorter version, which is around 4:15 mins, and then a radio version, which is around 3:45 mins. There's also 3 different music videos for this song. Savage Garden's style was inspired by the novel 'Interview with the Vampire' by Anne Rice. Darren loved the novel, so they took the term 'Savage Garden' from it, and the style of Lestat and Louis.
Now that you guys have seen them all, I'd highly recommend checking out the Australian versions of "To The Moon And Back", "I Want You", and especially "Truly Madly Deeply" as it's my favourite version of that song 💖💖💖
I agree with Anastasia to put this song into first place. Still listen to it fairly regularly and really love it!
This is my number one also from all their songs. It just feel magical.
This is definitely number one in my book.

A deep song and the outro always brings a tear to my eye.

We need week number 2
Absolutely. Crash and Burn, You Can Still Be Free and Affirmation need to be experienced here!
By far my fave and most played Savage Garden song.
Bring back so many memories of being in the front row of their concert as a 20 year old in 2000.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Not just from SG but anyone, anywhere.
I absolutely agree. It hooked me up on Darren Hayes forever
Same it’s timeless

We all knew this would be number one! ☝🏼
"If love was red then she was colour-blind". I know exactly how it feels. Great song, great band.
Need Savage Garden week 2. Crash and Burn, Hold Me, Universe, Tears of Pearls, Break Me Shake Me and so many more.
Affirmation and You Can Still Be Free!!
Fantastic song. It was published in 1996. Still works.

I only remember and still prefer the Australian version and was surprised when it started. But, I am Aussie, so.....

This is my first place song
Whenever I see all black, leather, matrix inspired style in music videos I assume it's from '98- '00.

@@j.6133 Thanks for the history lesson! Appreciate it.
