So about the ending, I agree with everything you said and I would like to add something. I think Clive and Joshua both lived. When Clive absorbed Ultima he gained Ultima's powers. Being that Ultima is a God who creates life I think its safe to assume Clive could have done the same thing so bringing someone back to life is not so far out of the realm. Also, maybe I was looking too hard or just wanted it to happen but it seemed like when Clive used the powers of the Phoenix to clean the blood and close the wound on Joshua there was a mixture of Ultima's blue power mixing with the Flames of the Phoenix. So I think Joshua got revived. Onto Clive's survival, his hand turned to stone due to the curse however for magik to stop existing would mean the end for the curse as well so when Clive tried to use the last bit of magik he could not because magik was being erased. So, either his hand turned back to normal or he just lost a hand. Finally I think the red light in the sky dying meant it was also the end of magik in Valisthea...Now you ready for this because this one is one hell of a stretch so Im just throwing an idea out there. Dion survived as well. How? because his knight dragoons do not take fall damage when they launch themselves 9999 miles in the air and come crashing down so Dion being the literally dragon that he is and the leader I believe it would not be out of the norm for him to be immune to fall damage. Plus we never saw him turn to stone and being that magik no longer exist then as long as the curse didn't completely take him over he might have survived. I loved this FF and its my GOTY 2023 as well!

I do feel that the boss battles peaked at Bahamut. NOT saying Odin and Ultima were bad fights, but they were more 8.5/10 when Bahamut was a 10/10.

now i see why they chose the name Clive =C as "see"+ "Live" his fate in his name 😂😂😂
as i see it Clive made it and had a kid with Jill, named him Joshua and he who wrote the book about his father...
I HOPE FOR Clive and Jill HAPPY ENDING DLC

dont worry, clive and joshua are alive. clive coupled with jill and had kids. we do not know who joshua couple with. the 2 boys are directed descendants from both clive and joshua. (hence the blond and black hair) we believe joshua may have written the book many years later. the book was not written by clive. if it was written by clive. it would have single out page in the beginning, in memory of joshua.

Makes for a shitty ending honestly.
All that “living by our own terms”, the big difference between Clive and Cid, is just thrown out the window.
Clive promising to come back after saying he will not break any promises again then breaks his last promise?
Clive’s biggest character flaw as told by other characters is not trying to save himself, then he saves everyone but himself anyway?
The final scene with Jill sighing in relief and smiling when she sees the sunrise? “Well she’s hopeful but jokes on her he dead lol”
I get that not every story needs a happy ending, but thinking that every bittersweet/tragic ending is automatically powerful and well written is pretty dumb.

@thefinalfighter2578 they died on their own terms; so others can live on theirs

    • @thefinalfighter2578
      @thefinalfighter2578 Рік тому +5

@@bcmspeed6917 The main thing is “living and dying on our own term” Clive is also included in this philosophy like everyone else, he always was. He dies but doesn’t get to live? Just to be a martyr after the sacrifices of Cid, Dion, and Joshua? IMO that’s a hollow way to end Clive’s character arc.

I feel like Clive survived 100%. Here's my reasoning:
    1) The book has the name "Final Fantasy". During his fight against Ultima Clive talks about a fantasy being final. So he is the only one who assorted a meaning to these two words. He is the only one who could have been able to name the book that way.
    2) In a side quest short before the end Clive talks to the scribe in the hideout and tells him that once all of this is done he would one day write a book about his life. That's what he does at the end. Just under a different name. He took on Cids name to honor Cids legacy and continue fighting the good fight. And he took on Joshuas name to dedicate his own legacy to his fallen brother.
    3) Clive is also the one who narrates at the end and talks about how the journey has come to an end. He is also the one at the beginning who says that the journey is just beginning.
    4) Clive tries resurrecting Joshua at the end but fails. As is foreshadowed earlier (just like with Clive writing a book when everything is over) Joshua says that the Phoenix flame can only heal flesh but not the spirit. When Clive tries to resurrect Joshua, Joshua has been dead for too long. He heals the body but the soul is gone. Some people assume that Joshua survives and that he is the one to write the book, but that's rather questionable. When Clive unleashes the final explosion at the end he destroys the stone structure and Ultimas crystal. At that point Joshua is dead and even if you want to say that he was alive, but just unconscious... Joshuas body isn't surviving something that destroys stone and crystals.
    5) Again, more foreshadowing: During one of the last side quests, Jill tells Clive about how she used to be afraid in the past, but that she overcame it by looking at the sun and knowing that Clive would come for her just like the sun would rise after each night no matter how long it was. Jill cries at the end but when she sees the sun, she immediately stops. She knows that Clive will return to her.
    6) Bearers had been affected differently by using magic too much. Their bodies started turning to stone but it was always dependent on how much they were using. We saw a child completely turned to stone because she had been using too much magic. We saw old bearers with no stone. And we saw adult ones with large portions of their bodies turned to stone but still living - even standing up and fighting for the people who were defending them. At the end we see that only Clives hand has been turned to stone. That alone is not going to kill him. And since magic at that point was gone, the stone curse would have also stopped at his hand.
Yes, the ending can be interpreted in various ways, but there is just sooo much evidence suggesting that Clive not only survives - but there are also so much teases before the final battle setting up Clives next step after the fight is over. And the ending hadn't been showcased in a way where it's a bitter ending where all of the plans and hopes Clive had, had been ruined. In my opinion he gathered his strength back at the beach and then returned to the hideout and lived together with Jill happily ever after. He did lose his hand though, that's for sure.

YES I love these details & I agree with all of this!
when I first beat the game I was lost in my thoughts but after the stream I spent a long time thinking of everything and a lot of these same points came up for me
ALSO I cant remember when but I SWEAR there was a quest where we received a pen from Hapocrates and I believe Clive said he would write something one day but my memory is so bad LOL
      ty for sharing :D
