@@LeviAckerMAN-o.oI think the issue with the cinematics at least for me was not the amount but the placement of them and how many of them you don’t even have context surrounding it so you’re just hearing dialog not really understanding. Like when you have like a few minutes of walking around for gameplay then a long cutscene followed by a little more gameplay then another longer cutscene
I swear Asmon’s twitch live chat is 99% made up by children - “too much talking” and “die” when Joshua is talking to Clive for the last time lmfao, probably the discord crowd
@@afxbocyeah, it’s cringey. Especially when they say “I WAS HERE”, ok habimaster123, I’m sure the world will remember your presence in a twitch live chat.
@@Maxxximilian90 Yup lol. Some try to act cool so hard they end up being cringe tbh. Honestly that's why I don't tend to pay attention to chat when I'm watching a popular streamer. Most people just say random shit and then ask dumb questions about the plot after not paying attention to the story lol
Joshua absorbed Ultima when he rescued Clive the first time at the mothercrystal. However Joshua wasn't aware Ultima had split himself into more than one being. Therefore, Joshua was the horcrux of Ultima. When Joshua went to Origin, the Ultima inside him got more powerful, so powerful, it was able to escape from his prison.
@@braidena1633 They were like Legion, all one being. In order to set about their plan they needed enough aether, so they split up and became mothercrystals in order to syphon it out of the land. It's also why Ultina looks like a dried out fish, because he's part of the Ultima collective. When they all join back together, he's normal looking. Clive just helped free them from their slumber and enabled them to join back together.
@@braidena1633 It's technically both, since they share a hive mind. So each Ultima is a different entity yet all act as one person so it's though as if you had 16 twins that shared one consciousness.
Ending was truly epic. FF16 did not disappoint overall. I Forgive the negatives as its not a perfect game and got a bit repetitive outside of the boss fights and cinematics. However where its focuses its efforts in story telling and boss fights its excels up there with the best of story focused games like last of us and god of war.
It’s not perfect and it’s too easy and the game is mostly filler however when it gets good it gets good I loved just about every fight especially the bosses we might not get one like this ever again sadly but if they do return to turned based I wouldn’t be mad
It's unfortunate how close to perfection it is, like, remove the fetch quests, add a little bit more variety for the side-content, add a little bit more depth to the RPG mechanics and fix the frame rate, and that's it. It's an excellent game nonetheless though, my favorite FF alongside FF7 Remake and FF9, just very close to being perfect.
It's a tricky one for me to grade, critically for its issues (pacing, lack of rpg elements, inconsistent quality of MSQs/SQs, minor lack of party dynamics, repetitive mobs) I want to give it an 8 but that almost feels wrong because some parts were so monumental, epic was their bread and butter and they set a new standard for large scale boss fights. I can't in good conscience put FF16 in the company of other 8/10 games because it felt much more special than that. If I step away from the general action rpg rubric and look at the overall experience ie the Eikon fights (which sometimes exceeded 10), music, performance, story beats (the prologue, Benedikta, Cid's arc, Dion), the underlying themes (fate, brotherhood, duty) and overall narrative I have to score it higher. Overall 9/10.
@@Bahamut998 The 2nd playthrough gave me a lot of appreciation for different abilities I thought would have been useless on playthrough 1. It also partially fixes the fact that 90+% of trinkets in playthrough 1 are totally useless cause once they're upgraded and the cooldowns or other effects are doubled they become a lot more reasonable of choices
@@Bahamut998 Oh, yeah, FF mode is still easy. I think Ultimaniac mode might be hard but I never tried it. I mostly didn't use Odin in NG+ because I wanted to try out all the abilities and comboes I hadn't had. I kept learning more and more new things too. Like Satellite was an ability I barely used but eventually I realized you can shoot the blasts from the satellite while in Megaflare stance which made it a lot more interesting. I also started using the long-range fire counter attack (Flamewave or something?) a lot. I gained a big apprecaition for all the abilities except Rime and Earthern Fury which I never found a way to not have be complete trash. I kind of liked them removing the QTE buttons but there are a couple times where it is really ambiguous if you're supposed to dodge or attack lol. There is also bonus little items you can get for beating bosses without taking any damage which is a cool little additional thing you could do beyond platinuming if you wanted.
I loved this game, and I agree with Asmon the high points are just so high. I think people are glossing over how incredible some of the sequences in this game are. It might have not been what they wanted, but it absolutely succeeded in doing what it was trying to accomplish
I'd add that watching the highs from a streamer doesn't hit nearly as hard as playing this yourself. There isn't a single twitch stream that could handle the bahamut fight.
Your comment perfectly sums up my problem with the game - yes, some of the sequences are incredible, VISUALLY. But for me and many others that's not why we play games, so no matter the spectacle if the rest doesn't feel "right" then it doesn't elevate the game. So no, it's not glossing over the fact, but it's simply not the main focus for many.
@@Sakisasvictorianmask I just finished FF16 today, so I can give my fresh thoughts. Really enjoyed the combat, and I'm glad they didn't go turn based or even a hybrid system. While I enjoy turn based games like the Persona series, the RPG elements of this game weren't strong enough to utilise that kind of battle / party system. So the game plays well into its core DMC strength in that sense. I also REALLY preferred the more mature tone with 16, and I was able to connect with Clive way more because of it. As a result, I was quite invested in the story. Some pacing issues aside, my only critique is that I wish the game could be condensed a little. My save clocks in at 75 hours (I did all the side quests!), but I imagine with the fat trimmed it could probably be around a more comfortable 40 hour experience. All in all I would be very curious to see what CBU3 have got planned in the future, if they ever get another shot at making another mainline entry.
My fave series of all time. To bad the last decade has been pathetic apart from ff14. Yoshi is a god and has kept the company floating for far to long. He deserves more recognition then he gets.
@@wrangchops cringe comment i have played every non XI FF and VII-Remake is BY FAR one of the best FFs EVER the combat system is much better than any other SE or SS ever made saying that anything non XIV has been pathetic just makes you a meme
Game is an easy 9.5/10 for me. I can look over a lot of the weird pacing and other issues because this is the first huge single player game a lot of the team was worked on. And with how amazing 14 is, if and when we get dlc they're definitely going to address issues.
It was 9/10 for me, up until the last few hours; then it went into 9.5/10, excellent game but not perfect. It's honestly my favorite FF game alongside FF7 Remake and FF9 ❤
don't understand people that criticize a final fantasy game for having too many cutscenes. A Final fantasy game SHOULD have many cutscenes. Thats why 15 was so disappointing, that game was so unfinished it didn't have even half as many cutscenes as this game. In fact it had so little cutscenes they had to patch in some cgi scenes from the movie that came out to fix some gaps in the story.
For some odd reasons, the patched cgi cutscenes don't have any audio just subtitles. I feel 15 should have been made like this, a movie game, instead of a game after making the movie and this could be a better approach going forward.
They should just keep making movies like Kingslglaive even lmao, that one is really great and make me hooked with FF XV, too bad the actual game is disappointing
The mother crystals were extensions of Ultima. In their hearts existed a fragment of Ultima. Joshua thought he had trapped all of Ultima inside himself but then realised otherwise. Destroying the mother crystals allowed Ultima to reconstitute himself fully and enact his plan to destroy the world.
The fact that this game doesn’t have micro transactions and has a beginning and an end with no ongoing live service model already puts it ahead of 99% of the other AAA games at this point.
@@TheEnderPearl Exactly microtransaction is a live service games thing, saying a single player game is good because it doesn’t have micro-transactions is like saying this restaurant is 5/5 great because it’s clean
@@Rennyblue But that's not true? Like single player games still very often have micro-transactions, DLC, random stupid cosmetic shit they lock behind paywall, etc
The issues with the game kind of doesn’t matter at all because of the high quality storytelling and combat gameplay. Hopefully this sets a new standard for mainline FF going forward ❤
Glad he finished the game and enjoyed it. This game was pretty awesome. Like he said, there were a few flaws in 16, but overall the high highs made up for it.
The flaws just happen to be extremely important core mechanics lol. That’s why people are so waffling on this game. It should get a higher score based on the way people praise the combat and boss fights, but it fucked up the wrong things (RPG mechanics, itemization, and overall design of the quests/world) that it really brings the experience down. Devs have figured out how to make these systems decades ago, really no excuse for a triple A blockbuster in 2023 to screw that up.
@@TheTinyTimmyTimTim I feel like the average score it got (87/10) is pretty justified. It's average was brought down alot from some reviewers hating on the game because of diversity. I'm sorry it wasn't the type of game you wanted it to be. Assuming you actually played it, of course.
Despite some flaws here and there, this is probably one of the better mainline FF games, really great game overall with some of the highest highs I've seen in a videogame. It would've been a 9.5/10 or even a 10/10 masterpiece if it didn't have mandatory fetch quests, deeper combat system and better side-content, but it's like a 8.5/10 for me, flawed but still an extremely good game.
This game was a true work of art and was what finally put me on to the Final Fantasy series. Everything from the great story, to the masterpiece of a soundtrack, I couldn’t be happier for my introduction into the series. Mechanically I think some of the other boss fights were better, but it was soooooo satisfying beating the everloving shit out of smug fishman David Bowie that it made up for any shortcomings imo. It was definitely a boss fight about feeling rather than technical skill and I think that was the right move for such a story-heavy game.
Most of them have happy endings. And even then the sad ones could be considered bittersweet. In XVI the protags save the world which is what they wanted.
You didn’t play IX then? Or 1, 2, 3? Pretty sure XII too. There’s a good balance in happy v sad, but I personally prefer the realistic nature of not everyone making it through an epic fight with god like beings.
Great game just wish it woulda been harder, more combat skills for base clive, more superbosses hidden away in optional dungeons and better loot for exploration.
Really glad he finished it, I know there were quite a few valleys (Sidequests) and not enough peaks, but goddamn the peaks were DIVINE. SE really needs to add more RPG elements to the next one. Those Joshua scenes really hurt, as a brother.
I love how the game is amazing enough to where you can just go and blitz through the MSQ alone. I had spent 90 hrs taking time to do side quests, and reading the in game lore with the “Tomes” guy each time I leveled him up. Such a great game and here’s to hoping we get dlc. Especially learn more of leviathan the lost, who “Logos” is. Overall memes aside, glad he’s finished the game and liked it
Final Fantasy XVI is my personal GOTY of 2023. Between Final Fantasy XVI & Final Fantasy VII Remake, this is a seriously brilliant return to form for such a legendary enduring series. It wasn't perfect though, the RPG mechanics were way too light and there should've been more Character Development and lastly there should've been alot more exploring as Valisthea is such an amazing compelling world that I really really wish you could've explored alot more ala Witcher 3's world but overall Final Fantasy XVI was simply spectacular. Really happy that Asmon loved it. I'm definitely rooting for Final Fantasy XVI to win GOTY although it definitely has some very strong formidable competition in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Hogwarts Legacy, the upcoming Armored Core 6 (which I've no doubt is going to be amazing) and now Baldur's Gate 3.
true, I love final fantasy series but baldurs gate 3 gonna win GOTY. Final fantasy was great but too much way way long cutscenes and the effects during fight was too much that you cant even see most of the combat, thats why it wont get GOTY, thats the flaw of 16.
Basch Barrage The long cutscenes & huge combat effects are very reminiscent of the PS1 & PS2 era Final Fantasy games. Kinda takes me back to the old days of the franchise but I hear you dude.
@@DragonHeart613 but to be fair tho, back then the cutscenes are good and it doesnt even feel that long, back then it just feels enough, not too long not too short and full of information.. but in 16, its just way too long sometimes I just like "when can I play the game, jeez".. sometimes it makes me feel sleepy. I remember FF9, FF6 and FF7, those do have cutscenes but it has some flavour in it, we felt the excitement from it, like a kid on adventure, thats why it kept us engage and not feel sleepy, but 16 the story at times are just too mellow, yes its dark but it felt mellow at times, alas the feeling of boring and sleepy. Yes, they do have huge combat effect in the old game, but the old game is Turn Based, so you dont mind the huge effects.. this new 16 game is Action game, therefor the huge effects is a nuisance, since you cant dodge most of enemy attack due to you got blinded by these huge effect, its unnecessary in action games.. I mean, look at FF7R, they did it better with the skill effects, you still can see the enemy attack in FF7R, thats how they should do it in 16. I hope they do well in 17, they forgot to put the feeling of adventure into this new fantasy world, FF series needs that just like the Golden age of FF where everything felt fresh and amazing. I understand the feeling of 16 is more like FF Tactics, but also that is why FF9/6/7 is always at top 3 and not Tactics. Dont get me wrong, I love all of Squaresoft FF, I grew up with it, but it is what it is. As much as I love FF, Baldur's Gate 3 is GOTY for sure.. I only been playing for 2 days, but its crazy, I got fully immersed in it, the sense of adventure and everything you want from RPG is there, its amazing, which 16 lacks of.
I think Clive lived. Because its the same thing he did with Cid. He wanted to pay tribute to his name by doing that in order for no one to forget his name whenever he finished his ultimate goal. Same with Joshua who is his brother. He loved him dearly and wanted a way to pay tribute to his name and what they went through in order for people to onow about it. So, he wrote a book about their entire life's journey and experiences and named it "Final Fantasy". Maybe because of the words spoken in his last fight with ultima stuck with him. Plus he did also tell Harpo at some point that he would be looking forward to the day he'll drop the sword and pick up the pen. He also told Joshua that their Eikons and story would be a thing of the past since magic would cease to exist at the point if they were succesful.
What I think a lot of people are missing is that this is very much a throwback game to the golden era of story driven, cutscene heavy ps2 games like Metal Gear or Kingdom Hearts. While that’s not for everybody, it felt extremely important in an era of modern gaming that seems hell bent on removing the single player experience in favor of an always online, live service PVP money printing machine. I think this will one day be remembered as one of the greats.

Although Baldurs Gate 3 might be a little bit greater overall, I think FF16 still deserves my GOTY. The spectacle and gameplay, with the long, cinematic approach really filled every one of hopes I got after the first trailer. The insanity of the big 5-6 (!) Eikon fights in total really are outstanding. Gameplay is a DMC-type, but in its own very well put together. DMC-players probably love this, but it just opened up to such a wide array of people.
@@kar12894 well it pretty much depends on ones expectations. I love baldurs gate 3 for its free approach and truthful dnd adaption but i can also enjoy a 40 hour cinematic style brawler game with great soundtrack and fighting. It lacks freedom and its equipment system is flat as fuck, but comboing along was super fun.

I really wish Ultima wasn't in this game. As soon as he was introduced the story became less interesting to me. I was so pumped to see Clive finally confront his mother, and it was like a 2 min exchange and then she just dies. And her motivation was stupid too, I thought there was gonna be something that explained her actions, but no she's just a 1 dimensional villain. 9 is pretty generous, I'd say it was like an 8/10
What? Archetypal villains are what the ff series has been known for. We are going to get Sauron or Morgoth rather than jaime lannister, especially in this game wherein the vision was to go back to the first few final fantasies.
@@nightfears3005 They could've made Anabella the Ultima type villain and the story would've been far more interesting. Instead she is built up as a threat the entire game only to go down as if she was never even relevant. She is barely ever even mentioned again after she dies.
@@nightfears3005 Ok but why set up all of these interesting characters around the world if you're just going to kill them off before giving them any depth or payoff. And this wasn't a complete return to form, it was clearly inspired by GoT. So either commit to that style or just get rid of that stuff and go with the standard FF story.
1:19:30, Clive literally did some shit like Thanos with the reset. But in this case, he just removed all magick, dominant powers, Eikons. He just reset the world into what we all know about: our own planet :)
Gotta say, the fact that he just randomly drops the lightning rod wherever, then proceeds to not use it in any way whatsoever (especially not during a stagger or anything, no, that would be way too smart) really triggers the hell out of me.
This game was closer to the first five, considering the whimsical plot of 15 I can see why they went back. Red/blue mage with this combat system is going to be wild in xvii!!

You walk from cutscene to cutscene.. it has 13 hours of cutscenes.. its an overload.. and typical MMORPG sidequests (gather xy). FF7 remake entertained me from beginning (gameplay after 5 mins Intro) until the end. And the new FF7 trilogogy is like FF13 trilogy.. you have to see it from that angle, especially when you get thrice the game time and content than the OG. Its pure fanservice for non toxic dumb fanboys who still live in the 90s. Its very obvious how newcomers really enjoyed the Remake. But OG hardliners didnt.
"Too much cutscene" and yet you're watching someone stream a game. What's the difference? Such a poor argument to make. Anyways I'm really glad you liked this game. I loved it too. Just beat it tonight and my heart broke into a million pieces.
thanks for finally finishing it! it has been a great series, i wonder if anyone has the link to asmon playing sekiro i would like to get a link for his play through, pls thanks!
I'm glad asmon finished I thought I was probably the last to finish since playing on day one, just finished it last week. I agree with his rating overall I think it's a 9.3/10 I've played FF all my life basically 30+ years out of soon to be 40 and this game it's definitely in the top tier for me probably 4th or 5th favorite. While I do think it has flaws there's nothing major I would change it, as a completionist and not rushing over it I loved. I'm only missing the 2 game+ trophies so I will probably get that plat eventually.
Kinda same, I got it exactly one week after it came out and just finished it last Sunday night. I'm relatively new to FF having only played FF7 remake, FF16 and I'm currently 6 hours into FF10 (and I plan on trying FF15 at some point since I bought it years ago but never did anything past the tutorial). From an outside of the series norm, as a standalone experience, I thought it was probably an 8.5/10, since I don't think I have enough experience to give it a proper rating as a Final Fantasy Series game. It was fun enough and impacted me enough that I'm sad it's over and can only hope for a DLC. Currently trying to fill the gap with playing through 10.
I think the Eikon portion was not as good as the regular version just because nothing new was introduced. Whereas every fight before that had a new part of the eikon's power revealed and elevated the scale of the fight
@@willywitchdoctorI can see your point but I'd say this is also the final fight unlike the previous eikon fights. Interrupting the battle with a mini tutorial where the game gives you an attack you'll only use in this battle would be weird imo
@@afxboc that is true, but can be said for any of the other fights. Like you wouldn't normally interrupt a fight like Bahamut's with a tutorial menu but they did. Just for me, it was like the fights in God of War 3 where Poseidon's was so grand in scale and then every fight after that wasn't as impactful. The fights after Bahamut didn't hit the same for me at all. The only part of Ultima fight I liked was him spamming all the high level spells like Holy, THAT to me was cooler than the Eikon fight because it was something new
@@willywitchdoctor that's a fair point. I just think it would have been even weirder to interrupt ultima's fight for a new skill After Bahamut the only remaining eikon fight is Ultima's second phase though but I understand what you're saying
It's funny how people say that ff16 has a lot of cutscenes and it feels like a movie. But if you think about it, the old FF games had a lot of lines of dialogue that as a player, it feels like reading a book. How is it compared to ff16 but instead of reading, you are now just watching it?
Like XIV, this was undoubtedly a game with high- highs and low-lows. You can clearly see where the majority of budget of the game is allocated and where it isn't. If this game somehow gets a "Royal Edition" like XV or something similar I hope the the developers can make the most out of it and implement changes based on the player's feedback.
The only ff game i finished was Crisis Core and honestly those games are special when you give time for them. With FFXVI it's very comparable to Devil May Cry combat, which makes the gameplay pace much better. I bet FFXVI would score higher on my list.
Ultima was watching because he needs Clive to get the Phoenix dominate and with the death of Joshua hope Clive’s will breaks so he can take the vessel easily. Asmons chat really is full of clowns must be a drag to have to deal with them on a daily basis.
NGL, thought this was going to be like XIV and never be revisited. Glad I was wrong lol. Great playthrough, Asmon was dodging like a damn pro by the end.
I can't get tired watching streamers and vtubers play even tho i've experienced the story. It's just so good. Tho there are some bad side like lacking RPG elements ... overall experience is solid 9.5 ... the music alone will be 10/10 ... had to get the ultimate edition soundtrack just for the collection
I finished the game just yesterday, and it is quite possibly the first game that has made me have to walk out of the room and cry. Seeing the flashbacks of Joshua and Clive when they were young was so sweet, and seeing the scene where Clive died/goes unconscious on the beach, and then everyone crying, just added to the feels. I know that some will say the game wasn't great, and some will say that it was awful, but to me it was one of the best experiences I had in a game. I really wish there's more involving this world in the future. This was also my first final fantasy game if you exclude final fantasy 14, and I'm excited to get into the other games in my spare time. All in all, this was a peak game.
Holy shit that ending was insanely good. Rarely does an ending feel satisfying but this had a mix of sadness and a hopeful feeling. Yoshi P and his team did a fantastic job with this game.
Keep in mind that this game runs flawless on the 60fps mode and the whole Twitch bitrate thing sucked out like all of the games feeling for most of the bosses and big fights.
I'll geniunely never understand the comment "too many cutscenes/story"........ in a FF game........... thats the equivalent of droping water over yourself and been shocked that you got wet, like, wtf did you expect?
1. Not all FF games are cutscene heavy, and this game cutscene to gameplay raito is more then most FF. 2. its a fuking video, game, no esception. so yeah shocker when people raise some eyebrow when a game is trying to be some pseudo movie.
@@nerostark4320 Learn to read, i said cutscene heavy. 11 isn't, XII isn't, 15 isn't. And again even with the ones on the lengthier side of cutscenes, 7-10. X for example has 10 hours of cutscenes, this game has about 20 hours. Twice as much. Its too much even in the case of FF.
@@Wintermute-- eh. FF has always been cutscenes heavy especially now that the series became more linear. I remember playing ff7 MSQ as a child and get annoyed why the game keep telling me stories, I want to kill shit 😂 Now they're trying to interwoven cutscenes in battle which means they can make cutscenes for killing blow for cooler effect in a War of the Eikon theme, but it means the cutscenes gameplay ratio will be bigger than the rest of the series. They're trying something new to deliver their narrative for more immersion. It turned out okay, doesn't break the game albeit some fps issues. One thing I wish they would take out is the Cinematic Dodge. I want to figure out dodging killing blows myself. I swear they do be babying the players. Though I'm not blaming them since this is FFXIV team, they had to baby tons of people being bad at games 💀
@@giannabrown867 There's nothing "new" about doubling up the amount of cut scenes in your game "The interwoven of cutscenes in battle" is honestly even more obnoxious and breaks the pacing of the combat for me, there's nothing immersive about the gameplay constantly being interrupted mid combat to give me another railroaded cinematic set piece , just more unnecessary padding out of the game(Which this game does a lot of.)
I was a bit unsatisfied with the ending, tbh. Personally, I would have preferred a happy ending where at least Clive makes it back. That said, I'm not opposed to a sad or bittersweet ending. My issue is that it felt... much too brief. I think the game does an excellent job at endearing us to some of the side characters and I was kinda left wanting in that regard. I would have preferred a sort of "where are they now" kind of ending, sorta like what FFXII did. I also didn't really much care for the after-credits ending. Yes, it's nice to know that humanity seemingly endures in the future but like... I don't care for two random kids playing at Ifrit and Phoenix. I care about Joshua, and Clive, and Jill, and Gav, and Mid, and Torgal, and Tarja, and the rest of the Hideaway people... so yeah, would have liked a bit more closure in that regard. All that said, I still very much enjoyed the game. I liked the combat and though I think Ultima felt weak as a main villain, I liked the overall story. I think my only gripes were really in the sidequests. Mechanically, the sidequests kinda suck. You can certainly see the MMO pedigree of the developers showing through the tired "go talk to this dude, now talk to this chick, now talk to this other dude" quest design. I do think they do a good job at world-building, at least.
It's so awesome to watch ppl who can actually play the game and time their dodges, I struggled so hard and died so often in every phase until I eventually got it.
There are some theories that the medicine girl who nursed dion is the unawakened leviathan dominant, but we can never know for sure unless we get like dlc or if the devs confirm anything
Ultima was fusing together while Joshua was dying, also he needed to break Clives will, so even if he wasn't fusing it would make sense that he would want Clive see his brother die
Yeah, why did Joshua or anybody not ask “why is Ultima stuck in your chest while there is another Ultima runing around?. Joshua forgot why he kept his distance from his bro for 5 years?
The goddamn endings man... while the "you win but everyone dies" trope is played out the goddamn endings always get me.. I was solid till torgal howled and I fucking cracked...
Its pretty deep. Ultima has more meaning. I liked it a lot. As a fan of FF since when 1 came out I can tell you it was pretty good. Maybe 8.5-9. Difficulty is the main problem to me.
I’m about halfway done with my Final Fantasy Mode playthrough, difficulty is a lot more fair there I believe because of the higher enemy Lvl as well as the full Eikon abilities.
Final Fantasy Mode really helps the difficulty thing. But I don't blame anyone for not wanting to immediately do a second playthrough. It's a long game, and I was emotionally spent for a few weeks after finishing my first playthrough.
@@northwestclasspnw7974 I don’t think FF mode is clever difficulty. Its just making you weaker and fights longer. I want real difficulty. Mechanics. FF7R has way more ways you can die other than one hit kills. Mechanics that make you think and use your skills. This game simply doesn’t have it. Fights are waaaay too long because health bars take forever to take down. I’d rather have better enemy attacks that makes you use your skills.
I liked a lot his review, not only for his solid 9/10 but for his feelings about small things. He judget the game the way he wanted, not just as a journalist/aged videogamer. So many people complained and pointed at others title being better or worse of ff saga...true game magic.
yes, you play the exact same game but mobs are overleveled. you can simulate the same experience if you do your first playthrough with no side quests leveling. Zanetsuken keeps oneshoting every single non boss mob out there. Grinding for and fighting Ozma alone (to give a quick example) is harder than the whole NG+ game. But ill agree, yes, the base game is a walk in the park, you might need to open your eyes in some NG+ fights.@@northwestclasspnw7974
It's baffling that so many people are wrong about the ending. Harpocrates says Clive’s pen will write the story of his journey, people are taking that as Clive living and writing the book, which is not true. Clive uses Ultima’s power after absorbing it to revive Joshua thus keeping his promise and oath to him as his shield and In turn the revived Joshua writes the book with Clive’s pen to make the first part come true.
I don't think the answer's necessarily cut and dry but...I do agree with this take. While the power of the Phoenix can't raise the dead, Ultima had JUST finished explaining it's goal with the Raise spell and that it's full power can utilize it.
You don't really get story driven epics anymore so I take whatever I can get. Hyped for FF7 Remake part 2. Only flaws in the game imo was the shallow equipment customization and the sidequests being straight from an MMO.
26:44 i remember this being the only time in my life that i laughed while my eyes welled up at the same time. This little exchange bares so many emotions all at once.
Some people say the sidequests were boring, yet those same people say the ff7 remake quests were better? what? People complaining for not Odin eikon fight, but people dont complain for no semi prime Dion before bahamut
while FF7 pacing better for side stuff but that game side quest is so just SIDE side stuff it not add much but good to do for random NPC moment 16 aide quest add a lot more some are so so good it should be msq
they were better. I played FF7R immediately after 16. Not only are there far less of them (FF7R has 25 side quests total and are much better paced than 16 which has 76), there is actual gameplay variety in 7Rs. 16 sorely lacks variety on all fronts. its time to look at things objectively instead of fanboying for the yoshi p cult
@@Eversoul12 Speak for yourself. The fact that are more side-quest in FF16 shouldn’t be a bad thing. I get more time to play the story based game I payed for this way. As for the “tedious fetch quest” people keep talking about…. You ROLE PLAY as Clive (it’s HIS story). (Think fetch quest hypothetically in real life: if you wanted to go out to the bar or whatever this weekend, but your car didn’t have gas; you would have to give yourself a tedious side quest of ‘filling your car up with gas’, before continuing your main story of heading to the bar or whatever.) You have to do the little tasks before you tackle the big ones The last few side quest of FF16 are some of the best the game had to offer. Yet many people missed them because they lacked the patience of a “tedious” quest. And if you’re gonna bring up FF7R, then at least bring up Madame M when she says “good things come to those who work, and in ways that just might surprise you.” (Also face it, FF7R had its fair share of fetch quests, and it did not have as much bounties at like 16 did. Soooo “sorely lack gameplay variety”…. What?

Ben Starr, lost his father, during the creation of the game, that's why his acting is on point. He was channeling his grief through Clive.
He didn't really split himself, there were 16 of them, some trapped in crystals.
@@braidena1633 They were like Legion, all one being. In order to set about their plan they needed enough aether, so they split up and became mothercrystals in order to syphon it out of the land.
It’s not perfect and it’s too easy and the game is mostly filler however when it gets good it gets good I loved just about every fight especially the bosses we might not get one like this ever again sadly but if they do return to turned based I wouldn’t be mad
the ending was shit, is was generic and truly disapoinment for great story and build up from the start
@@popoch2I am curious, how do you think it should've ended?
The game has for sure some flaws, but overall I think it’s truly great. Didn’t regret buying it, and I also got the platinum trophy.
For sure! I need to find time for a second playthrough so I can go for the Platinum trophy, but I definitely don't regret purchasing this game at all.
I’m still playing it. On my 3rd playthrough rn😭
gonna start my third play through as well at max level!
It would be better if they removed the bizarre skyrim fire salts collection like quests and the crafting.
I'd add that watching the highs from a streamer doesn't hit nearly as hard as playing this yourself. There isn't a single twitch stream that could handle the bahamut fight.
epic game with great story and side characters like Dion and Byron
My save clocks in at 75 hours (I did all the side quests!), but I imagine with the fat trimmed it could probably be around a more comfortable 40 hour experience.

don't understand people that criticize a final fantasy game for having too many cutscenes.

Logos isn’t Latin it’s Greek, Greek philosophy to be exact. Kinda hard to explain, something along the lines of god, creation, and the human mind.
Logos means will or willpower personified, loosely translated. That's what Ultima kept referring Clive as whenever he went on about consciousness.

4/10. The selling point was the story and it was real bad. I like the easy gameplay and linear dungeons
16:22 One of the best battle entrances ever. The music so epic! Ma boys jumped Ultima hard 😂
Time to cry again let's gooooooooo
I know everytime I watch the end I get tears...
Astonishing ending, one of the best I’ve ever seen.
What about it the main character dieing AGAIN, or the open ended ending and pointless after credit cenematic
Try FF14. It’s 10 times better at least
the after credit cinematic is not open-ended at all, you're just dumb lmao
This game was closer to the first five, considering the whimsical plot of 15 I can see why they went back. Red/blue mage with this combat system is going to be wild in xvii!!
Honestly I wish Asmon would try 7 remake.
Yea, the much better game in my opinion. And FF7 is part of gaming history
@@Coldsilfur4😭😭 you mean filler fantasy 7 at least this game has cool bosses and fun combat ff7 remake is like 80% filler and 20% first half of disc one OG FF7 still on top
same but he only plays new games now days. any hype game. id bet he play ff7 part 2 before he ever played part 1 lol
It's good but it being incomplete is a bother, not to mention it can be slower than 16 at times and more confusing
@@northwestclasspnw7974 completely disagree. I had much more slow and boring parts in FF16.. alone the start in FF16 is like 1 1/2 hour cutscenes until your first real gameplay / combat mission.
I cannot believe that he DID NOT GET THE FLOWERS FOR JILL 😱😱😱
The game was mesmerising for me. It's a huge factor contributing to a critic.
9.5/10 for story driven genre game.
"Too much cutscene" and yet you're watching someone stream a game. What's the difference? Such a poor argument to make.
Anyways I'm really glad you liked this game. I loved it too. Just beat it tonight and my heart broke into a million pieces.
To think a day would come when i would enjoy a Asmon FF playthrough more then a Maximilian dood playthrough.
Max looked like he didn’t care at all lol. Then he said 15 was better and I couldn’t believe it
that song at 1:20:30 kills me everytime
No game is perfect, but ff16 has enough quality to rate it quite high. EZ Claps to the devs, it truly shows how much love they've put into 16.
thanks for finally finishing it! it has been a great series,
i wonder if anyone has the link to asmon playing sekiro i would like to get a link for his play through, pls thanks!
Really enjoyed this game alot! Even went for the platinum. Wouldn't say it was perfect and had its flaws but I'd stil give it a 9/10
I'm glad asmon finished I thought I was probably the last to finish since playing on day one, just finished it last week.
I played it day one and just finished it yesterday. I only played it on mondays! It was an incredible experience!!! :)
Last fight is so amazing
even better than Bahamuth imo
I just think it would have been even weirder to interrupt ultima's fight for a new skill
After Bahamut the only remaining eikon fight is Ultima's second phase though but I understand what you're saying
Yea but compared to 15 you actually can die so that’s a plus and the combat isn’t garbage 😂😂
CBU3 always listens.
there is no royal edition incoming, maybe dlc or future sequel.
The only ff game i finished was Crisis Core and honestly those games are special when you give time for them. With FFXVI it's very comparable to Devil May Cry combat, which makes the gameplay pace much better. I bet FFXVI would score higher on my list.
I loved every minute ov this game the music story and characters also this was my first FF game I played
Ultima was watching because he needs Clive to get the Phoenix dominate and with the death of Joshua hope Clive’s will breaks so he can take the vessel easily. Asmons chat really is full of clowns must be a drag to have to deal with them on a daily basis.
This is still dumb plot wise.
NGL, thought this was going to be like XIV and never be revisited. Glad I was wrong lol. Great playthrough, Asmon was dodging like a damn pro by the end.
I just love how all the eikons get used and people say something after each attack. Then flames unforgiving hit, clive gets the wings looks so cool
Heroes dying for what they believe in is beautiful and perfect for the way this game went. Everyone tried their hardest no matter the cost
@@Wintermute--FF games have been heavy story based since 7.
@@giannabrown867
There's nothing "new" about doubling up the amount of cut scenes in your game
"The interwoven of cutscenes in battle" is honestly even more obnoxious and breaks the pacing of the combat for me, there's nothing immersive about the gameplay constantly being interrupted mid combat to give me another railroaded cinematic set piece , just more unnecessary padding out of the game(Which this game does a lot of.)
Think this is one of my Top 3 FF games. I don't mind the many cut scenes at all. The graphics, story and fighting system were brilliant. Loved it.
Same. I enjoyed the game but thought the ending was unsatisfying. Definitely kept me from playing NG+
Agreed, the ending didn’t feel satisfying.
They need to remove all of these skyrim level fire salt collection quests from the final fantasy series!!
It's so awesome to watch ppl who can actually play the game and time their dodges, I struggled so hard and died so often in every phase until I eventually got it.
Am I the only one who was hoping that Jote was Leviathan's Dominant? Would have been perfect for the galleon battle.
Ben Starr one of the best voice actors ever ❤️
This was the best Cid of any FF game ever created. Fucking Legendary. Loved this game.
My personal game of the year
Yeah, why did Joshua or anybody not ask “why is Ultima stuck in your chest while there is another Ultima runing around?. Joshua forgot why he kept his distance from his bro for 5 years?
Loved it ❤ Can’t wait for the DLC
The goddamn endings man... while the "you win but everyone dies" trope is played out the goddamn endings always get me.. I was solid till torgal howled and I fucking cracked...
Its pretty deep. Ultima has more meaning. I liked it a lot. As a fan of FF since when 1 came out I can tell you it was pretty good. Maybe 8.5-9. Difficulty is the main problem to me.
At least it’s way better than 15 that’s all I wanted
I’m about halfway done with my Final Fantasy Mode playthrough, difficulty is a lot more fair there I believe because of the higher enemy Lvl as well as the full Eikon abilities.
Difficulty was balanced in Final Fantasy mode 10/10 game for me
Final Fantasy Mode really helps the difficulty thing.
Also, want to say that the NG+ Final Fantasy mode is absolutely insane. Made for hardcore players.
i wish that us the base game, but I think dev fear it will scare old fan
you are on crack mate
It's not THAT insane, but it definitely adds a dash of actual challenge
yes, you play the exact same game but mobs are overleveled. you can simulate the same experience if you do your first playthrough with no side quests leveling.
@@northwestclasspnw7974 you’re much better than I am :)
This game has Bayonetta levels of spectacle and it’s all the better for it.
I really liked all his uncomfortable fidgeting, during all the tear jerkers.
You don't really get story driven epics anymore so I take whatever I can get. Hyped for FF7 Remake part 2. Only flaws in the game imo was the shallow equipment customization and the sidequests being straight from an MMO.
Yeah but for me combat got really boring towards the end … had to use the newbies rings just to make it tolerable and fast forward to the story
From 1:08:43 the music syncs up so well with this moment.
Wow... never thought the day he finished FF16 came so fast.😂
26:44 i remember this being the only time in my life that i laughed while my eyes welled up at the same time. This little exchange bares so many emotions all at once.
Some people say the sidequests were boring, yet those same people say the ff7 remake quests were better? what? People complaining for not Odin eikon fight, but people dont complain for no semi prime Dion before bahamut
while FF7 pacing better for side stuff
but that game side quest is so just SIDE side stuff it not add much but good to do for random NPC moment

they were better.
@@Eversoul12
Speak for yourself.
The fact that are more side-quest in FF16 shouldn’t be a bad thing.
I get more time to play the story based game I payed for this way.
As for the “tedious fetch quest” people keep talking about….
You ROLE PLAY as Clive (it’s HIS story).
(Think fetch quest hypothetically in real life: if you wanted to go out to the bar or whatever this weekend, but your car didn’t have gas; you would have to give yourself a tedious side quest of ‘filling your car up with gas’, before continuing your main story of heading to the bar or whatever.)
You have to do the little tasks before you tackle the big ones
The last few side quest of FF16 are some of the best the game had to offer. Yet many people missed them because they lacked the patience of a “tedious” quest.
And if you’re gonna bring up FF7R, then at least bring up Madame M when she says “good things come to those who work, and in ways that just might surprise you.”
(Also face it, FF7R had its fair share of fetch quests, and it did not have as much bounties at like 16 did.
Soooo “sorely lack gameplay variety”…. What?
Remove all of these skyrim collect fire salt quests out of the final fantasy series!!
awesome really enjoyed watching you play ... you should go for final fantasy mode next
the ending hit so hard as an overly protective older brother, god damn
Was a great watch. 90% of the time I was yelling at this man to dodge but it was nice watching this playthrough
This is what happens when you play games with weeks even month apart, without playing, you ask questions, why was ultima in Joshua chest, you would know that he was imprisoned there by Joshua, at the begining of the game, it was the only way he could protect his own brother.
Cant help if the story is boring. it,s a miracle he finished it.
