The man narrating this used to be an hourly person, at the Midland Allendale Mine, and used to be Mine Superintendent at Midland's Elm Mine, he was a good man, the mine you're viewing now is the old Midland Rapatee Mine now Mid State Coal Rapatee Mine!!
As far as I am concerned, these huge draglines are engineering wonders. The stripping shovels are, also. 70 yards is not huge compared to the 220, or so of the Big Muskie, but still most impressive, considering how easily it can load, swing and dump 70 yards of rocks, and how much it weighs.
If the spillage is on the spoil pile. there is no problem once the ore is not kept under the spoil pile called ``coal rib´´ Any way the spillage can be adjusted by using a correct dump rope length. There are other techniques but basically this is what can be done
