My two daughters just yesterday asked if there had any successful Women F1 drivers. I told them I thought there had been only 1 woman to drive in a F1 race but that one of the best rally drivers of all time was a woman and I had seen her drive in the NZ rally. Tomorrow I'll get them to watch this biography. Thank you.

I think there has been 3 woman F1 drivers. Only one managed to score points though, and that was at an unofficial race.
The drivers are out there, but the combination of talent, selfishness, financial backing, support, opportunity and a team prepared to take drivers on is a hard one to align.
A few of the male drivers seem to be there for their modeling skills rather than being good drivers.

I was a German auto technician for almost 20 years. VW/Audi/Porsche, MB and BMW. It took some time, but I earned my respect in the industry. I had female and male customers ask for me to work on their vehicles specifically. That was rewarding and validating. I'm appreciative of my father showing me his passion as a mechanic and passing it along to me.
I always loved the roar of the Audi 5 cylinder turbo. I got to work on one of those towards the end of my career. It was an S model. Amazing car. Maybe that's why I have a B5 S4 after all these years aka "money pit"

When Michele was in New Zealand in 1982, my friends and I were walking into the finish line of one of the North Island forestry roads (which are a mixture of gravel, sand, and clay) and were almost in time to see the leading cars. We were about 800m from the finish line when 2 Audi WRC cars came through (at touring speeds 😁) while we were in the middle of a cutting with about 1 and a half car widths of road surface, about 1mx1m dry(ish) drainage ditches on either side (which we were walking in), and high earthen walls on each side. We all got pelted with light gravel. It was the closest I got to Michele and is still memorable.
At the end of the rally, when we returned our rental van, we found that the Audi service crew had used the same rental service and they left behind some Audi stickers on the windows of their rental caravans. I painstakingly peeled off (with the rental company's permission) one of their 300mm x 600mm Audi logo stickers which I still have to this day.

Outside of her inspiring career, the aesthetics of both the 70s & 80s, then to add aesthetics of the places ralley drivers go & the opportunity for the audience to step into the scene of each pivotal, emotional moment... It would be refreshing if done right. The movie "Rush" is a great example, but this could arguably be even better in many ways for a movie.

Amazing detail you have covered here!
As an American 🇺🇸 teen and car guy in 1981, I didn't care about any other motorsport except rally.
There was virtually no coverage except for some grainy old pictures in a few magazines from events that were 3 months past history by then.
This video fills in many gaps that I, and many others, have been waiting for decades to fill.
    Michele's victories were no fluke.
I recall that she talked about developing a "Man Mentality" (pushing for speed without regard for one's own life).
This is almost a simultaneous insult & admiration for her fellow WRC competitors. Well played Michele ☺️

I had a privilege of watching rally champion Michelle Mouton & Fabrizzia Pons live in my hometown back in the day. I was then a young 5th grade boy lined up at the roadside with my brother in Kisii town, Kenya 🇰🇪 during the Easter week Safari Rally of the year 1982. She'd made a brief quick like 2 to 3 min stop, stepped out of her rally car and checked in at the rally halt. She then swiftly hopped into her idling car fast and sped off at a speed I could only imagine a car would roll, albeit like a true Champion she is👍 💯. Furthermore, Michelle at the time was then was young lady and the only women crew competing in tough Safari Rally. Moreover, as a young boy then, I was in awe and very surprised at Michelle's driving prowess and got very inspired. I became a rally enthusiast from then on and do respect her a lot when she competed with men and still won many times and won. I was hooked to following rallying championships at my free time ever since 💯 ❤️ 💯 👏 🙏 🙏.

This is how one does the biography of a rally driver. 10/10 and a shiny new subscriber to add to your 100k. I don't know if you mention it but I love what Michèle said to the Unser's when she beat them at Pikes Peak, "If you boys had any balls you'd race me back down as well", after that I knew she'd be a force to be reckoned with - although I guess she already was!
"Donut Podcasts/Donut Media" should watch and learn from this video. Their videos on both Colin McRae and Michèle Mouton were terrible. They claimed to have spent days preparing both Colin's and Michèle's videos but couldn't even get Colin's famous quote correct. Over and over again they were saying "If in doubt, go flat out", now I'm betting that everyone here knows his actual quote. One in three pictures of Colin McRae has it stensiled across it. So are they lazy, incompetent or worthy challengers to the uh-wöt IQ levels from the flat Earth community scattered around the globe?
When it came to Michèle Mouton they (Doh-nuts media) were going through her history and said that her first Audi was the S1. I mean there's wrong and then there's utter incompetence, when combined with Colin's video and one about the wing design of F1 cars where they stated that the underneath of the F1 would create a vacuum sucking the car to the ground. Now I firmly believe that if one is an "Influencer" then that carries an extra burden to be correct or at minimum, hire a five-year-old to proof read and help rewrite their scripts at least once. Saying that a vacuum sucks when they absolutely do not do that in any way shape or form is leading the younglings down a path of misinformation.
Okay, pointless rant over and done with, once I've finished this video I'll be hitting your "back dogalogue".

    • @schmid1.079
      @schmid1.079 Рік тому +2

The thing about F1 design is true though. Well, its not the most scientific description. Obviously there isnt a vaccum, but a difference in pressure.

@@schmid1.079 I am with you on that one 100%
EDIT: I will admit that up until the whole vacuum sucking process it was a reasonably fair video on the incredible engineering that is involved in the F1 aero system. But to reiterate (or sound like a broken record) please if you're an influencer, influence correctly. Especially when it comes to the younglings!

I remember seeing her in 82 rally of NZ. A night stage. What a show. All headlights flames anti lag blow off valves and rev limiter. On roads i may or may not have driven my rx4 a little too quick amd a little too sideways on. Apart from a bit of interest in Subaru Mitsubishi rivalry of early 2000s my love for Rally ended with the demise of group b. This is a great rendition of an even greater story. Thanks.

I watched a couple of stages of the Rally of New Zealand in 1983 and remember hearing later that Michele had been winning most of the stages on day two and day three. No internet back then so it was mostly radio sports updates. Mechanical problems forced her to retire on the last day, which seems like a common theme. Thanks for this driver profile, I also remember the Pikes Peak win being big news back then.
