  • What is your Go-To Bait? Do you prefer Live Bait or Cut Baits for Catfishing.
    Even though it is widely known that Flathead Catfish REALLY REALLY like LIVE BAIT, there has always been the question of how big is too big. Also, I have caught almost half of my flatheads with cut gizzard Shad.
    I don't fish with large Carp as LIVE BAIT often, but on this night, all I had in my Bait Tank was 3 large carp and a 4th one that we used as cut bait.
    We also brought with us the 4th carp that we would use for cut bait as well as some bluegill and green sunfish.
    The bank spot we were catfishing in was a little lower than normal but, there is a huge log Jam. I figured out a way to float in a live large carp right into the log jam and it took about 20 minutes for a Flathead Catfish over 50 lbs. swallowed hole. He gave me a great fight and not only did we catch him but other fish as well closer to the mid 30 lb. range, We caught both Flathead and Blue Catfish this night just bank fishing in front of a log jam on the Kansas River

      Haha That's what I was saying. I've been waiting for a flathead to bite and finally. But, the first one of the year I can't complain a little over 54 lb and it was kind of a fun way to catch it watching those bottles disappear. I wish I had that on film.
      Thanks man!

    Getting those carp from cedar lake? That place is infested with them

    • @CatfishKC
      @CatfishKC  17 днів тому

      They pile up in any little corner there. I was keeping them in my bait tank, but any longer than a week in my bait tank, the other fish start having signs of either a stress related disease or something else so I don't want them in my tank anymore. it is infested over there at Cedar

      I like meeting people and fishing. My parents are going through a rough time and it's been hard on my year in general and I've barely been able to get out to fish. Hopefully life can slow down in the next couple weeks!!

      Thanks for watching!! I used to use plastic bottles like that when I was younger. I really wanted it off all the logs.. They make pool noodle floats haha. I pick up trash and put it to use.

    I was thinking about using carp for bait i used sucker fish and was slaying em and carp is so much easier to catch than suckers

    • @CatfishKC
      @CatfishKC  15 днів тому

      Yeah they are a lot easier to catch. This was one of my first times using it as my "main" bait for the night. It seemed to work well or it was a good night they were biting.

    Matt next time stop by Dollar tree pick up glow sticks pop one and put it inside your bottle / bobber and it makes it real easy to watch and the camera will pick it up too.

      Very true. I used to have glow sticks in my bag but, I really didn't plan on floating any baits haha.. It was a last minute decision but, it definitely would've been nice to get that take down on camera with glow sticks

    I have a Berkeley big game surf rod with 30lb big game trilen what rig do suggest running for big blues and flatheads?

    • @CatfishKC
      @CatfishKC  16 днів тому +1

      I don't get too crazy with specific rigs and I try a couple different ones while I'm fishing. I generally would stick with the Carolina rig with maybe an 8 oz no roll or a 8 oz Bank sinker on a sinker slide. Then a swivel and then a 50 lb+ or more leader. I have started putting on a float just to get bait off the bottom a little bit if possible. I guess that would classify as a Santee Cooper. The 3 way rig is helpful and has helped save me a few times with the weight breaking off instead of the fish, but sometimes in high current the three-way rig seems to get tangled a little bit. so it just depends on what current and also I test out a couple while I'm there. I also like using mono as my main line but I do have braid on one. I use 40 lb mono mainly on my main line. 30 lb is perfect. The other night I was using a Carolina rig with the Gatorade float bottles 😂.. Which I would change if I did it again. Probably would have had the bank sinker not on a slide so it forces the bait to stay at a certain level.. Especially with the larger live baits.
      Good luck!! I didn't realize how long this message is 😂...

      It was a good night from how it has been. We didn't catch a crazy amount of fish but they all bit pretty quick. I know Nick left around 4:00 but we didn't get there until 2:00 in the morning. we were running really late that night.
      Keep it going, and I hope you get on some fish real soon!!!

      Yeah man! It actually helped going back through some things and remembering in case I need to fix anything. But, that style of bait tank has really worked well for me anyway and glad to hear it helped. Life is so crazy right now I can barely get down to the water myself but hopefully in the next couple weeks things will be a little easier. Where have you been Fishing mainly this year?

      We've got each other's back and have been through some things in life together. We call each other out if we need to.
      But, you and other people that comment or communicate with me , I don't take it lightly. I started this channel number one because I love fishing and Kansas City didn't seem to have a UA-cam long form Channel. The other reason was to get involved and be a blessing to whoever I might be meeting whether on a bank orbat the boat ramp or wherever.
      I appreciate and truly feel blessed when I get to meet new people because, we only live once and you never know when you can be a blessing in someone else's life. People have definitely been a blessing in my life that I've met through fishing.
