A few notes from a Warhammer nerd: - The Astra Militarum soldiers really are gone, they lost their mind to the warp and are either going to die immediately in pain, kill themselves immediately after the space marines close the tear to the warp, or become a puppet for one of the chaos gods. If you make it out of that it's because the god emperor himself protected you, and you'd gain a lot of respect from the space marines because in their immortality they won't see many, if any, normal human survive the warp - The Thousand Sons are literal demons now, there is nothing from them to save - Titus is a primaris marine now, a side affect of bringing a space marine back to life by turning them into a primaris marine is a loss of emotions, if you feel anything after that its barely registerable, and at that point the only thing keeping them from being a merciless killer for the god emperor is the codex written by Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultra Marines, and one of the god emperors favoured sons
If all this is just how Titus’ mental state is, I couldn’t imagine nor do I want too imagine how Dante, Bjorn the Fell Handed, and especially Vulkan and the Salamanders (minds) are effected. Interestingly enough; Chairon, -He,- Cato Sicarius, Calgar, Dante, Uriel Ventris, Pasanius Lysane, Grimaldus to an extent, and most importantly Lion and Guilliman all show sighs of Survivors guilt and PTSD. -Cato has heard the echoed screams of his men dying. -Chairon was at Calth when Lorgar and Angron attacked the 500 worlds. -Lysane and Ventris both are still traumatized by the Daemonculaba(as they rightly should be). -Grimaldus has to live with the fact he watched everyone under him and he ever knew barring Helbrecht and Andre is dead while he gets to live on. -Calgar, from his first Astartes trial as a kid and everything since the First Tyranid War, has to deal the fact that and weight of the fates countless others across the Imperium are we n his shoulders. -Same thing goes for Dante. -Robute Guilliman and Lion El Jonson both questioned why *they* had to be the ones that lived, much less returned. All while coping with the fact the Imperium is everything they sought to end in the Great Crusade 12,000 years ago.
Thanks for sharing this, I don’t know all the characters, but I have been loving the game so far and almost feel drawn in to learning more about the universe. It feels weird even making a video on it knowing that the universe has a cult following😅 everyone sharing their knowledge; I only know the face value of things from this game. Again, appreciate you sharing
You really need to do a video on the psychology of Kratos a man who lost everything, including his humanity through violence and combat, then centuries later regained his humanity through violence and combat. The way you presented this video on Titus is fantastic and Kratos deserves such a presentation. Liked and Subbed.
😱 That is an excellent suggestion! I can’t believe it didn’t hit me! I’ll need to probably replay the whole series, but I think it would be great! Ill be sure to do this and try to do it soon. I am about to do Silent Hill 2, but I WILL do Kratos💥💯🔥
7:15 I disagree, they understand that being broken in this way is worse than death. I'm unsure if they would return to normal when the chaos energies are pushed back into the warp or not.
The end of the first one was - "ugh what ?" for most people who didnt understand the Universe and would describe it as an "Bad Ending" (i loved it) So i dont think thats so important
@@BeyondHorrorGaming Theres a reason why Titus started in the "Tutorial" of SM2 as a Deathwatch and not Ultramarine - i loved that detail/continuation from the Story of the first one. First one is alot "simpler" Gameplaywise and had nearly no budget, but still a blast and can recommend it when its on sale it has a very nice "actionhero plot" lets say ^^
i don't think it's just a "defense mechanism". rather it's like a form of mental readjustment, sort of like a threshold increasing for stimulus. sort of like how people used to the heat or cold becoming mostly use to it. the biggest problem with this is definitely what happens when such a person is soon put into a less intense situation like civilian life. it's like your mind creates a habit of seeing the intense things, but the fact that civilian life is soo mundane that it's like being trapped in an empty room. you start imagining shit that makes no sense. To call something a "defense mechanism" is to imply that the person is at first actively denying before making it a habit to deny what he is going through.
I like this, this is a very keen point. Thank you for adding this to the conversation. And yeah, I tend to agree with you. And I can also resonate with that “adjustment”. I remember in my psychology classes one example my professor gave me was listening to music and constantly needing to raise the volume because our ears adjust to the volume. Or drugs are another example
@@BeyondHorrorGaming i actually remembered i video about another character who is in the game. i think this was it ua-cam.com/video/DIiy6zrcvAY/v-deo.html . i think it seems pretty relevant to what i would imagine a person having a defense mechanism might do as a space marine.
This game doesn’t show well the effect of constant killing on an Astartes. Especially as the 2 enemies we fight are easy to justify killing. The Tyranids aren’t people, they’re literal monsters. And Chaos, well I get the guilt if we were putting down Human rebels who simply wanted independence or better living, but those who give themselves to Chaos get no sympathy as Chaos is inherently evil and seeks death and suffering of all. Chaos isn’t understandable of motives like the rebels, Tau, or Eldar. But yes this game does show the psychological side of constant warfare. Titus doesn’t chew out Chairon simply for endangering himself when he charges into heretics to try and avenge a brother and ignores orders, Titus chews him out for doing so against orders and if he did die it would have been a waste. Chairon will die when the Emperor decides.
chaos is actually what happens when someone driven without reason looses all sense of restraint. those who fall to khorne for example are usually space marines that are not only consumed with unending vengeful furry but seem to be solely driven to kill regardless of what they are killing, in fact they are just as likely to start butchering each other as they are to do so to literally anything in their near vicinity that moves. the thousand sons in particular are driven soo deeply by curiosity and ambition that they dwell into all sort of esoteric and forbidden knowledge regardless of the cost of their pursuits.
@@necrosteel5013 thanks for sharing! So technically, ANYONE can become consumed by chaos? So long as they just want something badly enough that they will do anything to get it?
@@BeyondHorrorGaming basically yes, if even the primarchs that used to lead entire legions of space marines can be corrupted, the space marines are likely just as vulnerable to falling to it. there are also a lot of regular humans that also fell to chaos, and many still do in the setting. it's bad enough that if there where no aliens or "heretics" to fight. the imperium would have torn itself apart with more infighting.
I see that, the issue is that I don’t know much about the universe of Warhammer as this game was my introduction to it. The goal of my channel currently is to study the mental of game characters. Diving into the universe of Warhammer, could be something I could try implementing if I do another Warhammer video, but the idea would be harder for me to conceptually implement, whilst keeping within the parameters of my channel; it may change the trajectory of my channel, and I don’t know if thats what I want yet. Plus, I would feel like an imposter, since I know so little about Warhammer. I do appreciate your suggestion though, it is valued
Space Marines are NOT humans they are in fact tools for war. When you take this the level of psychology effects in their minds is not the same as a normal human. The best way to define a space marine is a warrior monk with autism. Also from their default implants it probably a fact that their brain chemistry works different from a standard human brain which can deal with things like PTSD. I understand that this topics can be mentioned in books and lore but Space Marines are usually cold and they dont sucumb to this type of trauma.
I see, as someone who is new to the Warhammer Universe, my only reference was this specific game. I would trust your expertise here though. Its just, in the game, there were scenes where for an example Gadriel’s brothers in arms would die and he would be upset about it and show disdain towards Titus. Or Chairon getting pissed at the Heretics so much so to the point where he ran off in a rage to fight. Thats not exactly trauma, but it looked like emotions to me. Not to say thats a Space Marine at all times, because you’re right, for the most part, they were cold and precisely calculated machines. I just wanted to explore this angle 😅
@@BeyondHorrorGaming Its a valid angle and space marines dont have filters which makes Gadriel reasoning within the normal parameters and also taking in consideration his place as leader was taken by Titus. But the part about chairon is also important to understand that many places in the imperium hate heretics and this type of hate is something encouraged by many branches of the government and you can just intensify that with a space marine, hatred is a feeling the imperium will allowed as long as it serves its purpose.
