This maybe more than just a coincidence. But, I see a common thread in each of the iconic statements you mentioned. James Earl Jones’ character is challenging another character into making a serious life-altering decision. Perhaps these statements hit with such great emotional impact because Jones is not only acting this role, he’s reliving it.
In an interview Jones once did, he spoke of self-doubt because he had a stuttering problem. A teacher in Jones’ early childhood noticed Jones wrote really good poetry. But, she challenged him, saying, “I don’t believe you wrote this. Prove to me this is your own work by reciting your poem in class without script and without stuttering” He took the teacher up this challenge and delivered his poem flawlessly. The teacher responded with “Now we have something we can work with”
Can you imagine what we, the entertainment loving public, would have missed out on had Jones not risen to this challenge? In a singular defining moment, Jones made a decision that would set the course for how he would live the rest of his life. And so it is with the characters he portrays. He’s being that teacher from his childhood all over again and he’s challenging someone else to be more than what they currently are.

I tear up and even cry when he intones "It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again", for I am old enough to remember the 1950's and early 60's in both baseball and America. We have lost a lot, but we still have a chance to recover this country and its innocence, as it was during WWII until the killing of JFK.

A baseball field is more then approximately 3 acres of land. It's the smell of new-mown grass, and old gloves, the feel of a summer sun on your face and the "horse-hide" in your hand, the sounds of a bat cracking a solid hit, or a good "rhubarb" on the field, and the belief, at the start of every season, anything IS possible. It's young ballplayers laughing and joking with one another, while playing a game to the "death." Halted only by a setting sun, or our mothers calling us to dinner out of back-porch screen-doors. A baseball field may not be Heaven, ...but it's as close to it, as a lot of us ever came.

I've seen a lot of sports movies in my time(I'm 65 now)...Jim Thorpe-All America, Knute Rockne-All American, Pride of the Yankees, Damn Yankees, the Longest Yard(orig), Jimmy Piersall/Fear strikes out, Hoosiers, you name it...I've seen it...Field of Dreams....tops them all....and this speech by JEJ, will never be marched.

I managed to get to the Field of Dreams from Australia last year. I just realised I sat right with Kevin Costner sat. The speech says they will pay because they have money and its peace they need. So so true, I sat and took it all in and let all the bad out. It may be Iowa but it is heaven

Timothy Busfield did such a great job. His character is sort of a heavy character but he plays him in a lovable kind of way. He's doing his job but he doesn't enjoy what he's doing. A more realistic approach rather than a comic book good guy/bad guy kind of thing. Well done.

Saw the movie site years ago before it was cool. Treasure a photo taken of owner Lansing and myself by an FOD sign. If you love the movie you must go see the site as the memories of being out amongst the cornstalks with your old glove on will bring tears to your eyes years later. SIGH

Just everything about this movie is perfect. The casting, soundtrack, dialogue, cinematography, acting. And lest we forget, the amazing and original story. This really caught the public’s attention when it premiered and you know you’ve really become pop culture when they end a Weekend Update on SNL with Dennis Miller being invited into the cornfield by Dr. Dr. Graham.

On Wednesday the Astros beat the Dodgers to win the first WS of their franchise's history. Yesterday I cried. Not because I'm a Dodgers fan, not because I'm a Rangers fan, not because I don't like the Astros , but because the 2017 baseball season is over and I won't get to see my beloved Red Sox play until spring. But I'm more than a Red Sox fan. I'm a baseball fan, and I would take any opportunity to watch any baseball game. Weather it be between the Red Sox and Yankees, the Padres and Cubs or just my brother's little league game. Normally this speech by James Earl Jones gives me chills, but today it almost made me cry because these words are so true and baseball is such an amazing sport. It has bonded my family, and my friends and perfect strangers together because we all share one love. The love of baseball.

As a fellow Red Sox fan, that's why 2018 was so bittersweet for me. As incredible as the season was, and trust me, it was *incredible,* you'll never get to see that same team again. If the Red Sox can go back-to-back, it would be great, but it's fair to wonder if it'll have the same majesty of 2018 if it does happen.

In 1957 my grandpa took me to a Milwaukee Braves practice at County Stadium. I watched the players Aaron, Matthews, Spahn and others who went on to defeat the NY Yankees in the World Series. All this when I was six! That was my “Field of Dreams” moment!
