Videos like this are unique and of great value to me as a guitarist. I admire the work of the late, great Alan Holdsworth and was pleasantly surprised by your reference. I enjoyed your performance and explanation of this Lobos prelude and, if L had my way, you would do all the etudes and preludes similarly. Thanks for what you have done with Sagreras and others.
Very smooth and legato version of this difficult piece to play correctly. Enjoyed it very much. By the way, ever noticed at the 1:13 mark, a Ord generates at your right hand and moves up slowly? Very interesting! Then again maybe is just dust. But I like to think someone on the other side is peeking in to enjoy this wonderful piece, maybe even Villa Lobos himself.
Thank you very much. This is pure gold for me. Do a series for ToneBase and get paid for your work. I never heard an third string like that. Allan Holdsworth did some acoustic work with a group called Gong that inspired me tremendously some forty years ago.
Thanks for watching. I discovered the gong album only recently. I used to listen to Tony Williams lifetime, "believe it". Now my son does and he's a drummer!
@@davidjaggs The Tony Williams work is amazing. His late solo work is mind altering, just taking it to a new world of tonality. On a different note, have you every played John. Duarte's Nocturne?
Both Inspirational and aspirational, currently I'm re working all 5 of these and looking at revisiting Suite populaire brésilienne, after watching and listening to this it is perhaps time to re work the re work on No. 5 😀 :-) . Always a pleasure receiving a notification of a new posting .
@@davidjaggs Ideas finally being put into practice especially for the middle section bass lines , its always difficult changing established fingering but what you suggest seems to musically flow more easily .. Some other pieces worthy to add into the mix attention might be the Scarlatti sonatas K322/L483 and L352 🙂 I suspect you get loads of requests
@@davidjaggs Great.. let's hope they are... I'm enjoying both your books and working on them slowly as we start to approach xmas Yikes..... just enjoying you Sor study Playlist I decided i needed to revisit them l to get rid of bad bad habits and fill in some missing however what can is say other than gob smacked . each one so far sounds more like proper music rather than just studies LOL..
Excellent lesson. I really enjoyed that. One of my requests would be Handel's Suite 7 - Overture. The ornaments there are quite hard and I was wondering if there is better waybto play them.
I love this performance. The beautiful legato you achieve in the cello-like melody in the central section is expertly done. I also appreciate the rolled and non-rolled chords, clearly the product of conscious decion and not unconscious reflex. Bravo. Have you recorded the others?
There's an album I did years ago called Recital. You'll find it on Spotify and it includes the 5 preludes. I think I've improved since the though! At least, I hope so!
I’m learning this piece at the moment. Some of your suggested fingerings are the same as the ones I have arrived at. Especially in bar 1. Why would you play it in a way that makes the next chord more difficult? Excellent advice
I like how you slow down the prelude instead at warp speed, like some of Allan Holdsworth’s solos! Can you send a link for the sheet music edition you are using?
Your book is great but would have made it unique and even better would have been if you had complemented it with a recorded video lesson of those songs.

Thanks 👍 Allan was something else wasn't he?!
in my opinion this is his most beautiful work for the guitar. Thank you for such an excellent lesson
Was always my favourite too!
beautiful piece wonderfully played will keep attempting many thanks.
🙏
Nice! Looking forward to see prélude 2&3 too!

I did notice the orb. Would be nice to think Dad was watching. Sadly I probably hoovered that day!
I never thought I’d hear Alan Holdsworth’s name mentions in a vendor about Villa-Lobos. Both legends and both somewhat underrated.
I believe there will be a new documentary about Allan next year, maybe people might appreciate him more after that?!
Absolutely brilliant. I'll save this for when I am ready to learn this prelude in about 200 years. 🙂
It'll be soon 🤞
@@davidjaggs We'll see. lol. I'm still fighting my way through Carulli op 114. 🙂
Don't fight, enjoy it!!
@@davidjaggs I love every second. :-)
Pleased to hear that!
Maestro everything you do is as I say to my son a gemstone.
Thanks 👍😊
Thank you. This came at the best time as I was just attempting to learn this piece!
Excellent! Hope it helped!

No, just his English Suite. I can't go directly from thinking about Holdsworth to Duarte, it messes with the mind!!!
I love your version! You play the first part very calm. I like that!
And thanks for the instructions!
Hope you get one or two useful tips from it. 👍
Excellent playing and insight
Cheers!! Hope you are doing well 👍😊
looking forward to more of this kind of videos!👍

Great video lesson David. Always loved Lobos since I heard Bream playing Prelude 1,2 & 3 years ago. 👍
Me too!

The David Russell arrangement?
@@davidjaggs Yes, that would be great
I think the ornamentation will be different for different performances. I'd recommend finding a video on how to play cross string trills.

Thanks! There are sometimes reasons for doing this, for example, if you want to hold certain notes to ring on etc. hope you enjoy playing it!
Excellent 👌
Thanks 👍
Love Alan Holds worth! Did manage to see him live once.

We did talk about video but apparently there is a copyright issue. Nice idea though. The next book has 16 pages of helpful notes. 👍
