    Younger generations don't remember Red Pistachio Nuts. Some time after this movie the FDA banned Red Dye #5 in foods as a possible Cancer threat. Now all Pistachio Nuts are their plain tan color. I don't know offhand whatever other foods that it may have been used in.

      Also, pistachios used to come from the Middle East and it was their tradition to dye them red. Now a days pistachios come from California.

      the dyes are oil-based, & some dyes might cause cancer in lab mice,
      but might not cause cancer in humans because of the way cancer behaves,
      so people argue that they should just be banned

    "Hey, it's Enrico Pallazzo!" is among the funniest lines in any comedy, and "my father went the same way" is my runner-up in this one (would've loved to see your reaction to the latter). Really great reaction to this classic and I agree, I like it more than Airplane as well.

    Ed was played by Academy Award winner, George Kennedy. Prior to this film he was known mostly as a tough guy, I was in my thirties when this film was first released and had never seen him in comedies. I enjoyed your reactions very much 😀

    I loved the ballgame scenes and the real-life sports cameos : MLB announcers JIm Palmer and Curt " How about that?" Gowdy with Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson as the bomber..LOL when he managed to crawl out of the bottom of the player fight pile to get the queen.

    The Zuckers and Abraham are the writers for this one, Airplane, and another one called Top Secret that was Val Kilmer's first movie.

      _Top Secret_ is also Weird Al’s favorite. There isn’t much in this world that naturally makes more sense than him being a fan of ZAZ movies, and being given cameo roles in some.

    Before this movie there was a "Police Squad!" TV show. It was canceled after 6 episodes. The creators of it then made this movie. Many of the gags in the movie were running gags in the TV show. The TV series is not available on streaming so very few reactors have reacted. It is available on DVD and Blu-ray.

    The baseball player trying to kill the Queen is Reggie Jackson. At the time I believe he was playing for the California Angels or the Oakland Athletics at the time. He was admitted to the MLB Hall of Fame sometime in the 1990s.😊

    On Weird Al being 'newer' he's been mainstream or just behind mainstream (but still in there compared to almost everyone else) for decades!

    Rain Check. Back in the day if a business had items on sale and they ran out of that item they would issue a “rain check”. This would allow the person to buy the sale item for the sale price when the item was again in stock.

    There was a TV series this is based on called "Police Squad" also starring Leslie Nielsen. Same level of comedy, it only lasted 6 episodes though.

    Apparently the franchise is going to continue, as there's supposed to be a new Naked Gun film being released in the summer. Seth MacFarlane's company, Fuzzy Door Productions, produced it, and its main stars will be Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson.

      Incidentally, the interrogating German officer on the train in Top Secret! (the directing trio's follow-up to Airplane!) is the same actor who played Dim in A Clockwork Orange.

    Gotta watch Part 2 and part 3 too, are both solid sequels. Other movies in the same field/range worth watching/reacting too (cross out ones you done) Airplane, Austin Powers 1-3, Top Secret, Hot Shots 1-2.

    That 1982 expiration date is very deliberately placed. It was the year that _Police Squad!_ aired, by which I mean the _only_ year it aired. The implication being not just that Frank is a bit of a stereotypical bachelor concerning the kitchen, but also that he hadn’t been back to his fictional apartment since the show was canceled (for having too many jokes).

    The things y’all thought were Tums were Pistachios. For some reason, they used to dye them red. I don’t recall when they stopped exactly, but it was probably when the artificial red food coloring they used back then was banned.

      @@OfficialDNJmoviehouse that makes sense. I recall the dye coloring your fingertips red. I always thought it was weird that pistachio ice cream and other pistachio flavored things were colored green, until they stopped dying the nuts and the natural color was more greenish.

      The joke/gag was that they were on a stake out, so they were there for a while. You had to crack the shells open to get to the nut. The red dye had stained their lips and fingers and when Frank tried to exit the car, the pile of shells had pinned him in.

      they used to dye them because the shells become discolored, & look stained and bad, so they dyed them,
      stopped in the 90s? 'cause food dye causes cancer in lab mice & now they are from California

    yeah, this movie is more enjoyable than airplane.. airplane has more of a darker tone, and feels more strange.. whereas, naked gun feels lighter.. more colorful.. the baseball park part lags a little for me, but the montage of strange plays is an unexpected highlight there

    Believe it or not Leslie Nielsen was a dramatic actor and one of his most famous roles was in the 1955 Sci-Fi movie "Forbidden Planet" imagine a young Leslie with all black hair. I'm glad you both enjoyed the Police Squad movie and I'm assuming you'll follow up with the two sequels as well. The hallmark of these movies as you see are the silly sight gags and clever dialogue with the sexual innuendos and occasional bathroom humor.
    Looks like the franchise will have a revival this year. A movie reboot scheduled for an August 2025 release with Liam Neeson taking on the role as Frank Drebin Jr. It will be interesting to see Liam tackling a major comedy role as opposed to his action movie roles.

      @@OfficialDNJmoviehouse I'm betting even money on that and seeing how the script was written by Seth MacFarlane ( the creator of Family Guy) and we know how Family Guy loves to leans into pop culture it definitely would not surprise me if the movie had a reference to Taken LOL!
      BTW at the end of Naked Gun just after Nordberg ( Simpson) was launched out of the wheelchair you will briefly see a wisp of smoke from the chair. Probably some propellant to launch the dummy into the air.

    Great reaction video, you clearly enjoyed this one! I love these silly, ridiculous comedies and The Naked Gun is one of the few comedies that gets a 5/5 from me. Frank Drebin is such a bumbling fool, but somehow he still gets stuff done. He definitely shouldn't be allowed to drive. The sequels are good too, but for me they are not even close to the first movie.

      @@OfficialDNJmoviehouse I just remembered another excellent actor playing an idiot policeman was Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau in the old Pink Panther movies from the 60s and 70s. Very funny comedies and worth a watch if you haven't seen them. You might have seen the new ones with Steve Martin.

    You are right about AIRPLANE having to know the culture at the time to catch all the jokes. Some of the things you had to know were the movies FROM HERE TO ETERNITY & KNUTE ROCKNE ALL AMERICAN. You also had to have seen the Yuban Coffee commercial. It also would have helped to have watched the movie ZERO HOUR. 😊
