its called cross race effect. as a white person, i travelled to asia and they couldnt tell us apart and think westerners look the same. because they arent expose to white, black, latinos or other races other than themselves. You will be able to tell them apart the more get into them (if you're interested) . its all about exposure.

The SSPACE Life It may depend on where you live. I know that the neighborhoods with the best educational systems have a lot of Asians and Indians. If the neighborhood is nearby a city known for housing big businesses and large corporations, you'll find even more.
I know for a fact that my school's population of Asians and Indians have the potential to outnumber us white folk.
I feel like for most Americans, they see more Whites, Blacks, and Latinos, especially since Asian representation in American media is so sucky.
Even though I am "pretty" used to facial differences in Asians, I still have slight difficulties in differentiating idols since (let's be honest) a lot of them are chosen based on looks that match Asian beauty standards. This results in a rather homogenous set of visuals, so taking time to tell them apart is kind of unavoidable.

jin did that on purpose my dude....... it’s so he can complete a dance move and then continue singing, considering he had a hand held mic which they usually don’t. and i don’t think it’s fair to watch his dancing in the back and “call him out”. they put the dance formation the way they do so you can watch the centre. he’s not a dancer, he’s a vocalist- and despite that he spends hours and hours every day practicing his dancing. please don’t put him down, he’s been thru a lot and he’s beyond hard working. he wasn’t off at all this performance and he did well. we’re all proud of him.

As a Korean person, I appreciate your honest reaction. You were very open and honest in your personal critique, but said NOTHING racist or disrespectful. I've noticed a lot of hatred in the comments when you said they were duplicates. I'M Asian, and when I first saw them, aside from the uniquely good looks of V and Jimin, I confused Suga, RM, and J-Hope, and could not for the life of me tell Jin and Jungkook apart for a long time. It is not racist to say they look alike. There is a difference between ignorance born of lack of knowledge, versus stupidity born of intentionally ignoring knowledge. When I first watched the SNL performance, I thought Jin missed his mark the first couple of times as well. But realized, by the end, that it was intentional.
ARMIES need to stop being so immediate in their hatred for anyone who does not fully support and adore BTS. The boys are not about hatred, nor would they condone reactionary revenge. You can't complain on one hand that so many reactors are fakes who only use BTS for views, and then crucify anyone who has an honest reaction that you may not like. A reaction is going to be both good AND bad. But an honest reaction is one that is not rehearsed, which means that sometimes, the things being said will not always be politically correct. That's what unfiltered means. We ARMIES need to be more supportive of new people, giving information when needed, and avoiding toxic bile.
If we react to ALL reactors with such unwarranted anger, then we will end up with nothing but the fakes, as the true and honest reactors will be too afraid to post anything at all.

The "they all look the same" was an unnecessary comment. Obviously wasn't made with the intention of being rude, but it's very telling of someone if they want to focus on that. I am also Asian and could not tell BTS apart for a while because I didn't have any prior exposure to Korean facial features, but I never thought they all just look the same and that is the end of it. I got used to their facial features, if you're Korean and couldn't tell BTS apart, you must not have grown up in SK so using the fact that you're Korean is not a fair argument because Koreans shouldn't have trouble telling each other apart unless there's an exception like you. And no Army here is mad because he doesn't fully support BTS, but there is a proper way to give constructive criticism and his way of doing so wasn't it. Entirelt focusing on Jin who was in the back just because he wasn't on par with the others and ignoring the members dancing in the front near the end of the performance....really? Anyone who studies performing arts would know that performers know when to go all out or catch their breath and let the backing track take the wheel. I don't know what comments you're reading, but most Armys have no problem if BTS' music doesn't suit someone's tastes. The problem is when they're unfair in their criticism and make offhand remarks

I must disagree with u. Jin is not missing anything. You have to take in mind that they are dancing and singing at the same time, so they have to do their best to finish the performance the best they can. If he didn´t sing that part is must be a reason, maybe he was tired, he wasn´t in a 100% health condition or so. Maybe it was decided to sing like that to show they are singing live instead of lip sync. They do that a lot to show mean ppl they sing live.
BTS´ choreography is known for being pretty hard, and only a few people can show the same energy while doing it! I would love to watch u trying their moves!

Thank you for your reaction... but let's call you out. These guys had already performed a song live singing, dancing rapping LIVE. Unlike American performers. They also were presenters at the Grammys after they traveled 15 hours by plane. You talking 45 hours a week. They practice that long and then perform concerts, interviews, music shows, photo shoots...as I said "live" with only a typical background track because they sign and dance their concerts for 2.5 hours. I would go on but it would be pointless. Most performers don't even bother to move a muscle on the SNL stage and they are not used to such a small stage for their routines ... so give us a break.

I’d probably be lying if I said that this reaction didn’t make me a little bit furious. As a Jin stan, I kinda felt attacked by his comments, especially when he said that Jin was slacking off. Considering that Jin felt insecure that he may not be the best vocalist or best dancer in BTS, I felt hurt for him.
But, then again, his comments might have stemmed from his ignorance of all things BTS. Mic Drop is a song for their haters, and BTS is known to intentionally skip some lines, especially Suga, when singing this song. The fact that Jin didn’t sing the same part twice did not mean that he was slacking off or “hungover.” Jin probably thought that he would sound quite unstable if he sung that part and might have intended for the back track to play as is so as not to compromise the vocals of the performance.
Sir, BTS are already known live performers, so I suggest you watch some of their other performances to cure you a little bit of some ignorance. BTS is also known for their hard work. Actually, most Kpop groups are hard workers since they all undergo intense training. Also, some of us Asians also have difficulty differentiating Western people. Lol. Anyway, have a nice day.

BTS has 3 rappers (2 came from korean underground rap scene, 1 started first as a street dancer before he started rapping)
    4 vocalists
    4 lead dancers
They co produce, co write, and sometimes add their moves to their choreo.
BTS has a habit of trying to "miss" their cue and let the backtrack play on mic drop. Mic drop is a song for their haters, and a lot of haters do say that they lip sync. Jin the one you said missed his mark, never does that, usually it's suga (one rapper in teal) to prove that they do not lip sync. So the fact jin did it twice, it's deliberate. Since you are not familiar with BTS, they got a lot of hate from fans of other grps of kpop esp during their early days. And fandoms in kpop can be toxic and very intense. They still get hate even now.
Also, im not mad for you saying that they all look the same but just to get my point across, it's like saying all black guys are bald and look the same. Which we all know is not true. There is room for all of us to learn so i hope this helps. :D So thank you for reacting and hopefully you see them with an open mind. You may lump them with bsb or nsync for starters but as someone who hated boy / girl bands, bts is not your stereotypical boy grp esp with the themes and concepts they come up with and the diff genres of music they experiment with. I can reco you a song list, if you want. Just tell me! :)

I highly doubt that. He had a backing track for that point so he knew he could skip singing that line if he had to (bc of dancing, or being out of breath, or whatever it may have been). It's not uncommon for singers to do that. If any of them wanted to prove they weren't lip syncing, they would have done it on a line without a backing track. Sometimes they let the backtrack play out instead of singing over it to catch their breath. Dancing and singing takes a lot of stamina. Jin (the one you said was slacking) probably has the hardest time singing and dancing at the same time since he's the worst dancer, but he has improved a lot and has worked ridiculously hard in learning how to sing and dance despite starting out with 0 experience.
Also, you're probably going to see a bunch of BTS haters in your comment section (I already see a few). Word of advice: don't let the haters or the fans dictate what music you love. You can check BTS out more on your own time. They have one of the most versatile discographies I've seen of any music artist and are some of the greatest people personality-wise (they got to speak at the UN on behalf of UNICEF).
Even if you are still not a fan after checking out more of their music, that's fine. However, PLEASE do not take the path of most haters and ridicule them for their appearance, demeanor, or race. Their fans are sick and tired of that crap since they've had to go through it ever since BTS debuted.

    - There are 7 members.
    4 Vocalists and 3 rappers
They co-write and co-produce all their songs (mainly the rappers but all of them contribute to their albums)
    - It’s ok to not be able tell them apart (I forgot what it’s called but it’s normal) because you are not exposed to asians.. the same happened to me when I first started watching BTS and also when I first started following some black actors and American tv in general.. you’ll be able to tell them apart after few more vids.. they’re really different.
    - The one that missed his spot few times is Jin .. and he did it on purpose it’s normal for singers who sing and dance at the same time to skip some lines to catch their breath and be able to sing properly.. so he skipped the first line in his part.
he also has no experience in dancing before BTS that’s why you can see few mistakes here and there but he really improved so much and can keep up with BTS’ hard choreography
I recommend reacting to some of their Dance practices (Blood sweat and tears, Fake Love, Fire, Danger)

I watched his bts related videos backwards. Even if I watched them in chronological order, I feel ARMY were overreacting here. It was an honest reaction and not some youtuber screaming on the screen for views. He had no reason to walk on eggshells. He didn't know them or their background at this point. From an outsider's perspective, they wouldn't know how to tell them apart and would notice Jin not singing at certain parts. It happens. Even as a person with experience in the field, he just didn't understand why. A lot of the people complaining are the same who say the same or worse about other groups too What even gives those who do that the audacity to attack someone?
Jin was sick that day. We know this. He has always struggled with singing and dancing at the same time. We know this as well. We know a bunch more than he did at this point. We know how hard Jin works and has been working from the beginning. How much he has improved. We know of the pain he feels from not having as many opportunities to shine as the other members. Of always having to step down from arguments or voicing his thoughts on camera because fans of some of the other members get offended and hate him for it which is probably the most painful of all of these offenses.
Most importantly, we know of how strong of a person he is because of it. He doesn't need you to protect him from this UA-camr's opinion. This youtuber didn't say any of this out of hate.
I understand the need to protect but I also understand that BTS are grown men who can handle this guy's opinion. There's no need to combat hatred with hatred or the smallest offense with negativity. In the face of either of those only positivity and understanding prevails.
There's a big difference between haters and people with an opinion. Haters blindly hate while those with opinions give BTS a chance. If this and his next videos aren't a chance after all of this backlash, idk what is. Thankfully he is mature enough to not have directed the hatred onto BTS.

It was his first time watching. This isn't a science experiment, this is a show one is meant to enjoy and he actually enjoyed it. As someone with some experience, he's going to catch inconsistencies really easily. It happens. He wasn't dissing him, he was pointing out something he noticed and worded it honestly from his perspective. Even I thought it took a bit of hype from the show. Jin is human though and cannot go at 200% at all times. I get that.
Of course he didnt know what was going on but he made sure to read the comments and learned what people were mad about and why.
Even then, looking though the comments myself, many fans themselves didn't know why he did that. We are extremely biased and know a lot about them. It's natural for us to trust they did this intentionally for a reason. He, a newbie to BTS, did not have this knowledge at the time.
Idk why you want someone to step on eggshells or change they way they speak just to suit your wants when they're just being honest. If they were saying these things out of hate, spite, or just because they were a negative person, I wouldn't care. Attack all you want. That's not going to fix anything and may even make the problem worse like that time with ricegum. This guy meant no ill will though and Jin is a grown man. He doesn't need your protection. Instead of carelessly attacking anyone that disagrees with them regardless of how bad it reflects on our faves, it'd be nice if ARMY focused on loving BTS instead and grew to be more kind and understanding. Why become the very thing you hate?
Thankfully a lot of the comments were very mature and understanding as well. There is hope for the future.

I meant ARMY in the comments in general not you in particular. Sorry for not clearing that up.
So when one member outshines the rest and reactors focus on them, people compliment their good tastes yet when one isn't doing as well, people get upset? It's okay to say that Jin isn't the greatest at so and so. It's okay to accept that he's not going at 200% this one performance. Theres no reason why someone cannot comment on those types of things. It's just a casual observation that this guy found interesting. When he called RM the odd one out, I figured he meant that he stuck out a lot (which is good. Our president Joon is a great leader who deserves to shine just as much as the others). It honestly just depends on how you take it.
ARMY in general just dont take anything very well. That's why we get picked on a lot by other fandoms and Antis. They know they'll get a reaction.
My main point is, that he didn't mean to offend. He liked them even if he did focus on Jin a lot and learned from this experience.
"You're only as strong as your weakest link."
^This quote probably sums up his thoughts at that point and time. ((Even if that quote cannot really apply to BTS who both pull each other back and push each other forward to walk together, it applies to most other things.)) I don't believe they have a weak link as a group but when performing, Jin is that weak link most of the time. Even then, he still slays like no tomorrow. It's okay to admit things like this. ARMY dont have to pretend someone is perfect to love them. These guys are human.
As humans we all get tired and make mistakes. This reactor's mistake was simply getting distracted by Jin in this video. It's not his fault that Jin wasn't shining in this particular performance. The words that come out of his mouth are simply just him observing mixed with his manner of speech. It's not something he can change easily. Some people are just really blunt and cant help it.

I see you have to been educated by ARMY and can`t really see too many mean comments, so I`m happy. I REALLY enjoyed your reaction! Even though a few of your comments were a bit rude, I really appreciate an honest reaction over a fake one. I could see you didn`t mean anything rude, and as people have said, Jin wasn`t slacking off or anything, I`m 100% sure it was a reason for him missing his cue. The `odd one out` is RM(Namjoon is his real name), the very capable leader of the group. None of the BTS(Bangtan) members are `the odd one`, they fit together in that group like they were born to perform with each other, all filling their own very important role.
And then there is the cross-race effect, any human that isn`t used to another human race will most likely struggle. Some more than others. Asian people don`t look the same, black people don`t look the same, white people don`t look the same, Indian people don`t look the same and I can continue this with every other human race, even animals.

I actually watched your reaction meet the members video first and you mentioned something about this video so yeah I see why Armies got triggered lol. They were really nice they tore these other two reactors apart if you don't like the music and criticize the music most of use is fine but physical attacks about race and looks are triggering to Armies.

In their songs when the perform live, the killer part is sung by audience and often singers dont sing the part where the voice suddenly comes out (they are instructed not to) and the part is voiced by speakers in background recording..
You missed the other member who also did not sing his first words,
SNL is not a concert or korean program so the sound team did not know how to handle it, so it stood out a lot.
It is not that jin wasnt able to, he did not have to

I like your reaction. When I first got into kpop I thought they all looked similar too. I constantly mixed them up and I was always like "Who the hell is that and where did they come from?! Who's name did I forget?" I still mix up the members of some new groups because they A LOT of people and some of them look VERY similar. I also agree with what you said about Jin, he was off. Although he was dancing at the same time, and he normally doesn't sing that part he was still off whether armys like it or not. Off is off no excuses.

So I saw the like-dislike ratio on this video and some of the comments and I was like oh boy what am i getting into... But i dont see what the issue is. Why are people mad. I notice some talking about the Jin comment on missing his timing or something but i dont see how thats being mean.. as a first timer you would think he missed his timing. I watched bts for years and even when I saw that performance I was like why isnt Jin singing that part like he normally does in live performances. if im questioning it, a first timer would def question it. Idunno i feel like people are jumping the gun here. not everything in the world is in insult. This is why our world is too sensitive and people cant say things anymore. People are looking at it like he should know this or know that. But he doesnt, so how is he supposed to know ahead of time. is he supposed to be psychic? its called a first time for a reason. It means you know nothing. if you go into something knowing a lot and say its your first time, then your lying and your a fake. Also I know that by commenting this I'll get some hate towards me too, but that just further proves my point that no one can have an opinion nowadays without getting shit on. Which is ironic since BTS promotes love and anti-violence, anti-bullying... Its interesting how that message doesnt seem to go through to everyone.

The way he talked about this in his Who is BTS video I was expecting worse. People need to chill out. It was his first impression. And Army let's be REAL here, this was far from their best Mic Drop live. Boy With Love was on point but this was a bit off/(rusty?). Even some of the most diehard BTS youtubers NOW were a little Iffy at first.

Jin didn't miss his mark, they sometimes use a backing vocal, to give them a break during intense dance routines. If a vocal is too high or if there are some effects that can be replicated by a backing track then they use those for that. But all the vocals were them live.

  • @katem1212

Jin (the one that you called out) doing it twice (not singing on the first part of his lines) should have clued you in that it was intentional. Don't worry I first thought that it was a mistake. But when he purposely did it again for the second time, I know then it was intentional. I, as a fan who watch them every chance I got already know that Jin is not in his prime condition when they went to NYC. He was kind of quiet during the radio show promotions. Of course since your first time reacting and knowing about them you wouldn't know. I hope you still want to react to their other performances, so you will know how and why they got to have the massive following they have. The first video I watched of them was the music video for 'Fake Love'. Then I broaden my sphere from there, what hooked me to them was the 'Danger' dance practice. Thank you for giving BTS a try.

I'm aware that this is your first reaction of this specific performance and prob of BTS in general, so your reaction was unfiltered and not as exaggerated (unlike some youtubers, lmao). But some of us are just pretty defensive of our boys as they have received a lot of love accompanied by TONS of criticisms too, so on behalf of the ARMYs, I apologize. Hope you will react to more of BTS and see how talented and special each of them are. Lots of love. x

Don’t be upset by the negative comments, half the BTS reactions I see are very similar to yours and it is because it’s not something you have been exposed to before and had no prior knowledge of Korean culture or who BTS is. Once you get to know them like ARMY we become very protective just because we know what they have been through and how hard they work.

the guy seems not to sing on purpose. every time he didn’t sing, he came to the front or center to get the vocal part. I think it would be more difficult not to know it’s his part in that situation. 😂 watch it focus on the missing vocal part, you could sense he waits for a second and get only the last part of his part. He might have some health problem and couldn’t sing high tones.

My army heart is ready to fight with comments about Jin but I see my sister Armys already pointed it out. 😂 Though I’m not blaming you, I’d admit I didn’t like kpop in general and disliked BTS. I judged them for being a kpop group not because I dislike their music. Not until I came across the SNL performance. I was hooked and I got to enjoy their music and love them to this day. Also I don’t hate kpop now. I do listen to some other Korean artists once in awhile ☺️ BTS has opened up the world of kpop for me and BTS keeps me interested in music though some kpop songs are still cringy to my ears. Lol. Your reaction was unfiltered and straightforward and that’s okay. Armys are just overprotective of them because they’ve been through a lot of struggles but worked hard hence they’re at the top of their game.

I get why you’d point out Jin. It’s a knee-jerk reaction to point out perceived mistakes, but unfortunately, you might want to be careful with those comments because even if it’s light-hearted, it can also be taken by some to be offensive.
Sorry that you’re getting so much criticism for it. I actually liked your reaction. Though I can see how your comments could be taken as mildly irritating, to me it seemed like joking around, and you seemed chill and genuinely interested in the performance.
