  • WARNING my video cut short due to my phone running out of storage however you should be able to understand the steps that are being asked of you to get your machine back up and running.
What is missed in the video is pulling the heat shrink over the wires and using a lighter to shrink that onto the wires you just put together.
I used zip tie to make the wires look nice in the back and then reattached the back of the tray system. Please ask if you have questions.
I did not reshoot the video as it would change the way my wires are to what you are seeing as I already cut them. You all will always get raw video of me and cutting another video into this one I feel would change that.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Here is the selling unit bypass that we ask many people to do. Harvest Right calls it a Thermistor Bypass.

Yea I'm messing with my freeze dryer again. Vacuum trouble. Not the pump, tried a known good pump it works on my other drier. Not the vacuum hose either.

Hi Donald, I've had one of these blue connectors literally fall out of my tray. My tray hasn't been holding temperature and now I know why. I bought the XL HR and it's only a week old. I don't know for the life of me how this could have even happened. It looks like it's been broken off from the base of the connector. It's copper at the break off point. My question is can I reconnect by simply inserting it back in to the PIT connector? I don't know where to find these things in copper. I'm also not a techy electrical guy. Thanks for your help sir.

@@freezedryerrepairsupport I don't want to make one myself and design everything at the temperature stage. How can I set it to a certain degree so that it does not collapse but becomes sublimated? I installed an external clock to stop the heat and turn it on automatically, but I do not know what degree to set it to.

Repeat question after watching Felix Fix video: For the thermistor bypass, is there a reason we can't just use a wago connector to connect the two wires together rather than soldering fresh wires? I'm getting a problem where the temperature sensor of the tray is reading like 130-140F when the machine is just sitting idle. I fixed it once with hitting the reset button on the back, but that isn't working now. Does that little sensor go bad? What is the thermistor bypass doing? I've tried bypassing like this using the Wago connector, but it didn't help.

I've done the paper clip test shown on calee991's YT channel to check continuity of both the epoxy harness and the pigtail and terminal block, and both passed the continuity test. I think the thermistor is bad, but it's riveted into the tray and I don't see any discussion on any site as to replacing it or obtaining a new one.

You would need to order the replace direct from HR. Someone I talked to said the other day however that they are trying to make them buy a whole new tray system

30 years of Industrial maintenance and now doing appliance repair..
This is not a Repair.. it's a bypass.
So you can still.. Half ass use the machine..
If the thermistor is bad.. the heater won't be turning on or off.. correctly.
If you have a new machine like mine.. want to do Candy and set tray for 150 degrees.. well it's not going to be accurate.. if you actually bypass a temperature... feedback... to controller..
Thermistors. have two wires that sends a resistance back to board( loop)
I'd like to see the wire diagram..
      Or find the service Manual.
This makes no sense to me.. as a repair.
I have two trays on my machine..
That don't heat up as hot.
So this video does explain why...
There is not a sensor on each tray.
And the controller is just using a poor average.. ballpark.. to turn on or off heater..

@@curtisjones9157 Yes, but it's not really a bypass of the thermistor. I don't know why they called it that. It is bypassing the terminal block connecting the leads from the thermistor to the leads that go up to the circuit board. It's just confusing everyone to call it a thermistor bypass. You are right that of course you have to have a working thermistor for the process to work. As it turns out, the thermistor was bad in my shelving unit. Had to send it in for repair, and all is working now.

Who uses a spring loaded terminal block for this application? No appliance manufacturer I have ever seen. Stereo speaker terminals were typically spring loaded like this. That application made sense. This one does not, IMO.

Looks like the video got cut short at the end. Interesting though, never heard of this type of a fix. If you do this does it mean the thermistors won’t show any reading at all?

  • @AdmiralPreparedness
    @AdmiralPreparedness Рік тому

The assumption is the terminal board causes a resistance on the circuit and this procedure removes that resistance.. Oh, install the shrink wrap onto one of the wires before soldering it. Then heat shrink both wired lines and replace the cover and screw it in place.

This is what Harvest Wromg calls field testing. You find a defect in their freeze dryers and create a fix youself and inform others. Problem solved and it didn't cost Harvest Wrong penny.

  • @kimb2007

You listed some reasons why someone would need to do this bypass. Would this repair also potentially fix an issue with the tray temps not reading (causing the trays to continue to heat)? This is just bypassing the block on the back, it doesn’t fix a potentially broken thermomister… right? Do you have a video for that?

So the name of this bypass should be connection bypass. You are not by passing any thermistor just simply bypassing a piss poor connection.
I have heard Don talk about bypassing the thermistor in the past and I couldn't fiqure out why. Really he needs to change the name of this procedure.

@@freezedryerrepairsupport I do understand that the name is not yours because you have said that hr showed you how to do this. However let your watchers know what it is actually doing and why.
Now that I know about that poor connector I think I will bypass all the wires from that connection point as I feel like this might be a cause of a lot of electrical problems due to the resistance changes. That area sees big temperature changes and we all know that resistance changes as well with temperatures
