Jess you should use a salad spinner to dried the berries and smaller fruit before the mason jars. Fries them all really well
Can you provide a link to the nativity set? That is the same one I had growing up as well!
You like Christmas trees for the little dog to pee on at this time that’s nice… 🤯
I loved your workout perspective that chores can be pushed back a day, but a workout can’t.
I find chatty vlogs so boring 90% of the time. But not yours! I love them. Don't know if it's your personality, the range of top topics you cover in them, filming style, or that you are genuinely honest, but I really get the vibe I'm catching up with a friend from them. Thank you for being you and always bringing a smile to my day, no matter what you are posting 😊❤love you😊❤
Thank you so much for saying that!!! 🥰🥰
I feel the same way! It feels like I’m chatting with a friend!🥰
When Pinocchio showed up all I could think about is Tyler saying “ my dog’s brother”. Classic! 😂😂😂
😂
Love quoting their past videos like episodes in a show😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂 hilarious
For rinsing strawberries, I have used a few tbls of white vinegar in a water bath and rinsed before eating and have never noticed the vinegar lingering, but have left the berries clean and fresh 🍓
A vinegar solution works for me too 👍
I do the same. The only fruit I don’t do is blueberries, which I read have a protective mechanism that is best left alone until ready to eat (or wash before eating).
I recently lost a friend who was one of the most special people ever. Two adjectives that would always describe her were "willing" and "present". No matter what she had going on she was always these two things to EVERYONE in her life, without compromise. Now that she's gone, the small stuff seems way, way insignificant. Relationships and showing the people in your life that you are willing and present for them is truly all that matters. Just such a big and beautiful lesson I learned from someone gone from this life way too soon. Felt I should share this with you ❤
Your explanation about getting in a workout makes perfect sense. I usually take a hot yoga class 4 or 5 times a week. I have to go in the morning otherwise it doesn’t happen. I always say that I have a finite amount of energy in a day and if I’m going to cut anything short because of lack of energy, it has to be something else and not this one true thing I do for myself.
That's so smart doing it first!! It doesn't really work for me to work out in the morning but it is a lot harder to summon the mental energy to do it at night ha.
You still have the neat handwriting of a teacher. I love it!
Your explanation about not being able to push today’s workout to tomorrow is EXACTLY what I needed to hear. I have to prioritize myself and my body for my health. Thank you!!!!
What you said about workout routines was exactly what I needed to hear! I’m always that person who has the best intentions and wants to work out but there’s so many things to get done I always push it to the side. But you’re so right!! The other things can be done at a later time but you can’t make up for a lost workout. 👏🏼🏋🏻♀️
Another way I found keeps strawberries fresh for longer - cut them up and then store in airtight container. When we leave our berries whole, they get squishy. But cut up in air tight containers and they last longer. Also it’s WAY easier to toss a few in a bowl for my daughter or she grabs the container and we open it for her to eat right out of
Hoka Clifton is the ONLY show I wear. They are amazing right out of the box. No blisters, no breaking in. Amazing.
Love living with four seasons - such a gift. Something to look forward to when you’re starting to get over the current season. I love different things about each season but man the sun + snow combo is something fiercely beautiful to me. Also doing a tough walk or any winter sport really (your body heating up from your effort with the combo of the crisp air - so satisfying). Also hot chocolate after outdoor winter days. I must stop. Sounds like I work for winter.
Same! Nothing more beautiful than a fresh snowfall 🥰 Give me a snowy winter day over 90 degrees anytime!
For extending fruit shelf life, try getting those containers that have a 'grate'/rack on the inside so moisture will drain...also I place a paper towel on the top so the condensation that accumulates on the cover doesnt get to the fruit.
Those things are the best! Have definitely changed our fruit game. 👍🏻
Do not stress! I just put away Christmas decor as well! Feel as though I have much more time to sit and actually enjoy it after Christmas than I do before. We traveled to visit our oldest daughter the week after Christmas, and even though we were only gone for a few days, it was overwhelming, and I was extremely worn out when we got back. The holidays takes so much out of you that you don’t even realize now do yourself a huge favor and take time for Jess! Going to sit back and enjoy your video now, while it continues to snow outside. That’s my idea of a perfect evening! Good friend and light snow. ⛄️ ❄️❤️ Hugs! Susan
I related sooo much to your talk about procrastinating and working out. This is my year to start putting myself back at the top of that to do list again. My husband and I have been married 9 years, he’s in the military and we had 3 kids in the last 8 years. One is special needs and requires a lot of support from me. Life is beyond stressful in this season I’m in. I LOVED working out before I had my children and it’s something amount many others I completely let go of. I’m at a “healthy” weight but physically and mentally I know I am no where near as healthy or strong as I could be. I had my gallbladder removed via emergency surgery 3 days before Christmas. I refuse as a parent to continue putting my health last. Thank you so much for giving that perspective on the list can wait - today’s health cannot. ❤️🙌
Aw I'm so sorry you had to have your gallbladder removed in emergency surgery. 😢❤ Good luck putting your health back on your priority list. I only have one kid and it's so hard! We're starting with trying to eat better but I need to get back into exercising also!
Re berries & storage: I always transfer the berries to any sort of air-tight storage like Rubbermaid or Pyrex glass or tupperware type containers and I line that container with paper towels and then add a paper towel on top of the berries. That absorbs moisture and moisture is the enemy of berries in storage! Lol. Then "burp" the container when you close it, if you can. Voila! They last tons longer than if you just put them in the fridge in their grocery store container.
That's smart, can't believe I never thought of transferring my berries, and I'm a food scientist 😂. Lol. I'll be trying this.
I would love to know how Jessica's berry experiment turns out!!!
I clean my strawberries in water, a little baking soda, and a generous splash of vinegar. Rinse well, lay them out to dry (or blot with a clean dish towel), and then put them in a container in my fridge. My strawberries don't turn brown or black, at all. They stay lovely, bright red and fresh, longer.
Soak your fruits in some salt and white vinegar(just a splash). Then rinse with cold water. I store them in Tupperware with a paper towel in the bottle. Makes your berries last longer. Also for strawberries, cut the tops off and store them cut side down.
Helpful tip: Walmarts produce is mostly by the pound when ordering online so you order 6lbs of bananas roughly same with the broccoli it was probably 2lbs.
I store my berries in mason jars and I find that it helps to add a folded paper towel down on the bottom before adding the fruit in. If it’s a quiet sized jar, I typically do a second paper towel in the middle. This helps to absorb any moisture that is produced!
If you remove the leaves from the strawberries, that also helps them stay fresh longer.
I use vinegar to wash fruit including strawberries. Also, I use a salad spinner to dry the fruit. Works pretty well
We got a veggie chopper and we wash, chop and put veggies in Tupperware so it’s ready to go for salads and omelets.
I work to Walmart grocery online! Personal shopper here. Walmart Plus is amazing.
I got a coloring Bible for Christmas and totally thought oh I bet Jessica would love this. Like we're actual friends hahahahaha ❤❤
I love mine!😊
Just wanted to say, I finally bought the sephora foundation you rave about. I have very finicky skin (very acne prone and VERY oily). I have never found a foundation I loved on my skin. After your last review of it I decided it would be the next foundation I tried. I freaking love it!! It went over my acne scaring and current breakouts smoothly and it lasted on my skin all day. Normally, even with matte foundations, I have to blot my face at the very least every other hour. I blotted my face only twice. But here's the real winner... the foundation never looked like it broke up. It stayed perfectly smooth all day. Not to mention, it was a perfect shade for me. Thank you so much for the recommendation. I can finally feel confident in my makeup.
What foundation is it?
I have a Kitchen Fan. It's a 6" fan from walmart that was $10. i use it to dry fruits, vegi's, and sometimes dishes, cool off food faster, and when i'm traveling as a white noise and fan. Fits right in one of my kitchen drawers.
That’s a great idea!!!
I use white vinegar+H2O to soak/clean my fruit. I rinse & dry it in salad spinner, then store in fruit keep-fresh containers.
That's what I use as a soak & I'll put them in a plastic container. It seems to help strawberries last much longer. But check with Amy Lynn Sattler for tips, as she goes through a lot of berries.
Does it change the flavor?
The mason jar trick is 100% legit! My strawberries last weeks!
Oh my goodness - the nativity stable with the textured roof…CORE MEMORY that I didn’t realize I had until I saw it again on screen. Love it 😍
Walmart+ delivery is the way to go for me! Especially when I need something that day!!! And the prices are on point!
We do a vinegar/ water soak for strawberries. Space for about 3-4 minutes then rinse. Dry them, cut them up and put away in fridge. You are not going to “pickle” them. The vinegar is a way to kill off the spores that change them too quickly and they last longer. ☺️
I literally looked at your channel today and said “I want a new Jessica vlog to watch”❤️
You are by far one of the best vloggers, kindness just radiates from you. Your a special kind of person and your girls are very lucky to have you as their Mom. Tyler is one lucky man as well. I love having the 4 seasons too, i live in Ontario, Canada. Its been a strange winter though, not much snow and now we have rain.
I just love your channel so much, Jessica! ❤ I adore you
I just find your chatty videos so soothing and therapeutic for my ears. 😊
WOW! That Nativity scene… My grandmother had that set and I was nativity obsessed as a child. She gave me Mary, Joseph and Jesus in the manger to have at my house.
I haven’t thought about that in years! Thank you for the nostalgia and memories. ❤
Eek, that workout chat I definitely needed to hear. It's been so hard for me to get back into that routine after going on a long vacation in November!! 🙈 Nights when I'm busy too i agree it's just the lowest priority thing so it gets pushed to the back burner.
I'm excited to watch your trend video and also to try the Chelsea's Messy Apron recipe. She's the first food blogger i realized i love because every recipe is so dang good. her butter chicken recipe is one of me and my husband's favorite recipes of all time. ❤
Couldn't agree more! If I wash and destem my fruit, we go through it so quickly! Good idea with the boiled eggs.
i LOVE Walmart +!!! I use it all the time when traveling and at home, can’t remember the last time I went to the grocery store and they have a lot of organic options 🥰
That Nativity scene just threw me for a loop!! 🥹❤️
My Grandmother put that same one on her piano every year. ❤️ My Mom comes from a very large family so I have no clue who got it after my Grandparents passed. I last saw it probably Christmas of 97'.
Something you might enjoy is a portable egg cooker. My husband and I got one as a wedding present and have absolutely used the heck out of it! It is so convenient because it keeps you from having to actually boil water or watch the eggs. Now, it's our go-to gift for others' wedding showers/parties!
Yeah I should take my tree down too. 😊 And never fear...when I do manage to take my stuff down, it will sit in bins in my living room floor for another month.
Apple cider vinegar for strawberries ☺️ love the baking soda soak! They did some studies and a 10-15 min soak removes like 95 or 96% of pesticides from the fruit!
Perfect timing! I was looking for something to watch! Always the best 💗
We have the zucchini puff pastry pizza currently in the oven right now! First time trying the recipe and i found garlic herb goat cheese crumbles to use 👀👀 can't wait to try it! Have the honey and red pepper flakes on deck 😂
My Christmas stuff is mostly still up 😊 I have been sick so it has been on the back burner. I am really feeling the stress of it today though. Well working the weekend then Monday it all gets put up! I’m also in the mood for New Year reset! 2023’ was A really hard year so I’m hoping 2024’ will be much better, fingers crossed! You inspired me today, fresh foods, exercise, getting it all back together…..Thanks Jess 💗
You're not alone. I just finished taking down my Christmas decorations a few days ago.
My goal is to take my Christmas decorations down by February…. I’m aiming high 😂
I was just thinking where is Jessica! Perfect timing!💜
Same
Yep, my decorations are still up. I leave them through February.... it's my new tradition lol I am retired and live alone and nothing brings more joy on cold winter nights then coming home to beautiful Christmas lights. It doesn't usually snow until January or later and I love snowy days with my decorations even if Christmas is over. Not to mention I put so much up, 2 large trees in each front window and it is a lot of work, so I need to enjoy it for more than 6 weeks. Hope you had a great trip! xoxo
I love your leopard shirt at the end!!
Yay you’re back!! Have missed you and your videos so much!
So happy to watch a video from youuu!
I put everything in mason jars and totally agree that for berries, especially strawberries they stay a lot longer especially if you have cut them up. Mason jars are standardly air tight so it doesn't let air in. I use them in coolers for travelling all the time since you don't worry about water getting into the food.
Love what you said about working out! There is ALWAYS something to do! You’re so right it can be pushed to tomorrow! 👏🏻 but todays workout needs to be done today or bust. 🏋️♂️
You’re not the only one just now taking down Christmas. Doing that this weekend. Between illness running through the household and a death in the family just haven’t gotten to it.
Also for washing fruit and berries I like the wash that Trader Joe’s sells. Thrive Market used to sell one too, not sure if they still do. Haven’t ordered from them in some time. Happy New Year Braun fam!
Welcome home! We missed you 💖 You got so much done, good job!
Love your realness, Jess! 😊💓
Yes! I had just been refreshing my home page to find something to watch while I get ready for the afternoon haha. Love ya!
Woohoo!! 🎉
Love your vlogs!!
I just took down my Christmas decor from the upstairs of my house yesterday. My home office is still decorated. Not just you. ❄️
Awesome so glad you’re back. When I need to take Christmas decorations down I keep up my regular stuff and as I walk by going in kitchen etc I just grab something from the wall etc etc and put it in a bin near by eventually at the end of the day there’s a start going.
Put a paper towel at the bottom of the mason jars to absorb any moisture!
I wash strawberries with a splash of white vinegar for 2 minutes, lay them out to dry them store them in whatever container is available 😂 they last what feels like forever lol.
The mason jar method works, Jessica!!! I just recently tried it and my strawberries lasted for a week now.
That’s SUCH a great point about working out vs. other chores. And I totally followed your thought train!!
Also - just took Christmas down yesterday. 😂
Through covid I really got into UA-cam work outs . Iv always been gym user I would just find 10 min workout I always ended up doing more ! Sometimes I’d be there for hours lol . Best body ever
For strawberries (any berries really) I rinse and then toss in a salad spinner (love the oxo one) and never had an issue!
LOVE that white sweatshirt!!!! 😍
I love the nativity scene! I have my folks set, it's pretty worn and from the 70's, but I cherish it.
Yassss! That Nativity set is the one I grew up with! ❤
I have been doing Walmart Plus Delivery weekly since the pandemic and I absolutely love it!!! ❤️🙌❤️
For strawberries I do a small amount of white distilled vinegar and water. Let them soak 5min, rinse and allow to dry before refrigeration.
Whats the reason for the blurry square. What was it blocking out?
For rinsing strawberries, try soaking them in 3 cups cold water and 1 cup vinegar for 10 minutes. Then rinse! I line the container I put them in with paper towels to keep moisture at bay.
I love it so much when you overexplain - please never ever stop❤❤❤
Love your vlogs Jess xx
We clean all our fruits in a big bowl of water with just a little bit of white vinegar and then rinse them
I love what you said about not being able to make up a day or three of working out in one day, so true. And i totally get what you mean, its a good way to think of it when i have the urge to skip the gym and clean something. Itll be there when i get back lol.
Yay been missing your vlogs❤
For all my berries I wash them in a vinegar and water bath and then dry them. I haven't had any issues with them lasting for the week!
I use water and white vinegar for strawberries and it works great! I've noticed my fruit actually lasts way longer and doesn't mold as quickly when I pre-soak them with vinegar, too. 👌🏻
My Christmas Decorations are still up. We even have 2 teenage sons to help us but have just been to preoccupied to do it. Will get them down soon.
I love the nativity scene you bought. What a special memory memory attached to it. You can never have too many nativity sets, especially ones with special memories attached to them.
I soak my fruit in water and a little vinegar. Seems to work. As far as storing, I bought (at TJ Maxx) containers that have a little a colander type thing in them so the water drains and you can dump out. I’ve also put in regular plastic containers and put a couple paper towels on top and stored upside down. Each time it gets opened replace paper towel. I’ll have to try the mason jar method. Thanks!
I love your makeup bag!
Your freckles are lovely and show up after getting sun. Full January vacay vibes. Was gonna complement the foundation but I'm sure it's terrible gorgeous sun exposure lol.
Jess, video idea for you. Old favorites you unintentionally stopped using, to see what you think now. Like Lash Paradise mascara!
Yup and physicians formula eyeliner
I thought of another you used to love! Dose of Color lip gloss!
I wash all my produce in water with white vinegar. My strawberries last forever. They dry up before they mold. Same for all berries.
Vinegar does not work for stone fruit. It will turn peaches or nectarines etc, brown.
I love the hoka 8! These are so comfy and can wear for hours ❤❤
Vinegar and water for strawberries..works super well
For Strawberries …Soak in 3:1 water to distilled white vinegar for 20 minutes. Rinse, dry and store in an airtight container with a dry paper towel. For a Costco size container use 2 cups vinegar to 6 cups water
I love grocery shopping days too❤
Oh my goodness my parents had that set and I’m 54!!! This brought such memories! And it makes sense well worse my mom definitely shot there. I can remember it.
I have the hoka Clifton 9s too! I love them! They wash sooo well!
My dad literally machine wash our fruits with his hands, it’s hilarious 😂
We didn't put up a tree last year because we knew we'd be traveling to spend Christmas with our daughter, but I do still have my little countdown to Christmas thing hanging on my door, and a variety of new ornaments that I still somehow ended up with even though I knew I wasn't going to have anywhere to put them. They're sitting on the weird high counter that goes around my kitchen, that is fully useless for anything but collecting random objects. I need to just throw it all into a grocery bag and put it up in the closet with the other holiday stuff. It is a two-minute job, including the time it takes to walk around from room to room. Yet here it is, getting toward the end of January, and I haven't done it yet.
Get the half gallon Mason jars for fruit! Last foreverrr! Or much longer. And I just use plastic lids made for the Mason jars. Game changer to have fruit ready and have it kady.
For strawberries I always soak in vinegar and water and then rinse well and dry. I store in a mason or weck jar with a paper towel to absorb excess moisture and they last so long!
