  • In her new novel, first time author Georgia Hunter tells the story of her own family's remarkable survival of the Holocaust. Though the book, titled "We Were The Lucky Ones" is considered historical fiction, it is largely based on the true story of 22 members of the Kurc family; Polish Jews of all ages who managed to evade capture by the Nazis. Hunter sits down with host Paul Schankman for a First Person, One on One discussion of her best selling book which retells a story she only learned years after all but one of the survivors had passed away.

This was a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the holocaust. It is unusual because it is about a family where EVERYONE survives, a very rare story.

Thank you. My Catholic Polish family came to the USA in 1862. The family retained the language. When WW2 started (but before USA joined the fighting against Germany) one of my uncles went go Canada to join the British forces against Hitler. Another uncle volunteered to fight with the Polish underground. He had no ID, wore old European clothing, and was secretly flown to Poland. If he were caught by the germans, a death sentence awaited. Somehow they both came home safely. My father had served in WW1 and was too old to rejoin the army.

And last March 28, 2024, The book comres to life, We have a TV Series, We were the lucky ones. The script, the scenes, the actor awesome, its is elegant, carefully made, you will really feel the emotions, like you are in that situation, its a Master piece. I hope the youth of today will watch the TV series and read the book they will learn a lot, they will value, respect, love and treasure life and the freedom that they have right now.

“NEVER AGAIN”?! Human beings have not yet learned a) how to prevent genocide, and b) how to stop it once it starts.
I’m tired to the point of disgust of people parroting this empty rhetoric of remembering the past or we will repeat it! We have not learned. Many many people have not even heard of the holocaust of WWII. And there have been many genocidal events since 1945. WAKE UP!

@Gabster1990 It's ironic how the Palestinians voted for Hamas. Ironic how those Arabs (who call themselves Palestinians) cheered on the streets of Gaza on Oct 7th. . .I bet they're not cheering now! Maybe they should vote for better leaders next time as they're finding out elections have consequences.

My Granddaughter and Grandson are 1/4 Jewish. I don't know their personal Jewish history, but I read them books about the Jewish heritage as they are raised as Christians! I was raised Christian but my Irish Father taught us the Jewish heritage of Jesus because it's a part of all of us! No matter what our ancestry! I too am a Holocaust researcher! 💔 to think that my grandchildren could have perished in WWII had they lived in and at another time! ❣️🙏🇺🇲

I am eager to read the book, eager to listen to and watch the rest of the video (stopped watching at 2:44 minutes).
But despite decades of loving and learning about Israel, despite living and working in Israel for three months in 1972, despite wanting to immigrate from Canada to Israel (and only deciding against it bc even then when I was so young and naive I disagreed with Israel’s expansionist policies that so many Israelis believed justified pushing Palestinians and Arabs from their homes, off their land). It has become hard now for me to see the Israeli flag anywhere in any context. It has become a symbol of the world’s most recent genocide! 😫😞😠

It isn't. The difference is that the Jews did NOTHING to deserve to be murdered by the nazis, their only fault was that they had an incredible mind for business and money, everything they touched turned to gold, and the nazis hated to see a group of people beeing better than them..The Palestinians however
have become worldfamous for their suicidebombers in Israel, whenever there has been peace, they have destroyed it by bombing busses, cafeterias, streets.. The Israeli HAD to build a wall around Gaza to keep the bombers in ONE place, much easier to control them when you know where they are..And again,on oct7 there was peace in the land and so the Palestinian-supported Hamas attacked Israel and murdered around 1000 and captured about 200. IF Israel will ever let the remaining Gazans stay in Israel after THIS, it will probably be with better fences, electric, because the Gazans can NEVER be trusted again.
