The problem is finding that sweet spot. Even pros have trouble with it, since not one program is universal for everybody, trial and error is usually what gets you there, but in the meantime a lot of injuries can occur. For me it took me years to find that I had to stretch a lot more than my teammates especially in my groin area to avoid injuries. Even doing static stretches before the game, which is big no for most, but for me it was what prevent me from reoccurring injuries in that area.
I'm a college Coach. My roommate was a high level massage therapist and is studying to be a yoga instructor. She brought up this idea to her teacher and said it takes years to become "too flexible". I myself am a hockey goalie and I feel my flexibility definitely helps me in each sport I play and allows me to have good movement.
Hey matt, Seing as these videos are never actually two minutes long i compiled some alternate names: Multi minute Monday, Four minute Thursday Five minute Friday Six minute Saturdays Seven minute Sunday
Plyometrics are supposed to help with this a bit. My track coach understood this issue in high school, and so instead of static stretching, we did dynamic warm-ups like A-skips and B-skips, horse legs, but kicks and high knees. And THEN after practice, we did static stretches for flexibility.
I love how you come up with facts and studies so we are proved that what you say is right! The most youtubers talk out of their mouth and most of the time they speak complete bullshit
Last night I did the millionaire hoy 15 minute yoga session that was in the footballers physique and I immediately felt great. Keep up the good work Matt.
Finally someone who understands this. I always tried telling my friends that if you stretch too much you lose explosivness! But too little and you'll rip a groin 😂 I usually do dynamic stretching first and then static at the end. And I did all the research on my own. Read a few good articles online. Good vid
I used to stretch my leg muscles really a lot and picked up an ACL&Meniscus knee injury which ruled me out of the game for 1 and a half year, and I guess this may be one of the reasons of the injury...I'm back on track now but still, I think it really could have been the lack of knee joint stability caused by overstretching my leg muscles that contributed to my injury... hope this video will prevent some of the possible injuries, great job!👌
Wow, I always prided myself on being the most flexible on my team, now I think I'm over stretching my body. Looking back, I think the games I played best were when is stretched just enough to get the blood flowing, but didn't do the whole warmup. Thanks, now I know I need to find that medium where I perform best.
Really interesting video... BUT are there any indicators that show you that u have the right balance or you are too loose/tight. Like what kind of flexibility is for example too much ?
Yeah hes not well informed on this subject. You can have super flexability and super strength together or separately. I think he means overstretching the ligaments and connective tissues not muscles. Muscles can be trained to be both flexible and powerful. I think if you are stretching too much when it's cold you pull on the joints which is bad. Muscles can go back to normal when they recover from a flexability or resistance training session.
Become elite you have got me motivated to practice soccer everyday I bike out to my school soccer field and get out my cones and do the exact same drills you do to get better. I never trained out side of my practice till I started watching your training sessions it made me realize that I need to work harder and got me to pull my shit together. My coach is Proud of my improvement and asked me if I have been training everyday and I said yes. at the end of that soccer practice he sat us down and told the whole team about how I train 7 days a week and how he was able to tell a big difference if I never watched your videos or stumbled across your channel I would not be grinding like I am nowadays, because of this I wanna give a big thank you!!!!
You need to be mobile, you need to be able to do a controlled movement trough a certain range of motion. Too much passive flexibility in a static position is bad. I hope that your viewers understand the difference between mobility and flexibility
Now that I've read the comments, I feel like the people who commented don't do any research on their own. Most of them are like "Matt how about this...", "Matt how do you know...", "Matt can you tell...", and it actually makes a little angry. A year ago I didn't know anything about individual skill training, let alone strength training or recovery. However after finding your channel, I got inspired and started doing individual skill training and started looking for information by myself. Now I have gained a lot of knowledge just by watching youtube (not the best of sources but I don't read very often) and I feel like I know somewhat-well about things like strength and hypertrophy training, nutrition and recovery/prehab. It always drives me nuts when I read your comments and somebody asks you a question which they literally could have googled. Even though you have a youtube channel, you are a professional football player after all. People expect you to hand them every little piece of information they need. Ending this rambling by saying that I'm a big fan of yours and respect your strive for greatness
Love this, dude. The people like yourself that read, research, and work not only for knowledge and for information, but in all aspects of their life are usually the ones that become more successful in whatever they choose to do. What you’re doing of watching videos, googling, reading, researching, then turning around and implementing what you learn into your daily life is absolutely spot on. Happy to see you’ve made such crazy improvements already. You’ll continue to push farther and farther with a mindset like that.
Hey there. I'll be very precise. Massive respect for you mate. You're a hero. I just wanted to ask some random questions.(not related to each other) 1) Does height matter in soccer? 2) Can masturbation or sex affect you as a footballer? 3) Is it necessary to go to the gym? 4) What time of the day should I train? 5) Do bigger muscles have more strength? 6) How to know which position is perfect for me? I'd really appreciate you answering my questions, it would really help me out. Thanks in advance.
hey matt i am super flexible but thats on my adn,i never improve that skill,i im scare for the future and mi ligaments, but im motivated for do my dream play soccer profesionaly...sorry for my english. good work dude. i am from Venezuela
I tend to agree and accept almost everything you say. Been watching for a long time, but I’d have to disagree with you on this one. As long as you are stretching all muscles, tendons, and ligaments equally I see no negative effect of being extremely flexible. Look at contortionists, and people who practice parkour, or calisthenics, and the strength, balance, stability, and control they demonstrate, while being extremely flexible. Lastly I’d just like you to observe how flexible babies are shortly after being born. Very flexible, and I’d argue it’s natural, and positive to be as flexible as possible.
Good video. But what is the best way to tell that you are balanced between flexible and tight. Also are there any stretches that you recommend maybe you could make a video showing your stretching routine and what stretches are the best for each part of the body related to soccer.
See I dont know if I like two minute Tuesdays. Yes they are very helpful and I take a lot of things from them its just i think there to shirt. Obviously its two minute Tuesday and the time is a little higher i just wish i could see more when im watching you. Your one of my favorite youtubers and I watch every video to try to improve and get better.
Wait you frogot to mention that you can also have both super flexability with super strength. Gymnasts have both power and flexibility so you can have both and be healthy you just have to develop both either together or separately.
I’ve always been naturally the most flexible in my team. I can almost do the splits just naturally am I too loose? I am quite slow so does that mean that my muscles are too loose to perform?
It’s not actually your muscles it’s your tendons. Your tendons stretch and then bounce back they give you free energy. It is possible your too flexible. But if you focus on building strength by working on your hamstrings quads calves hip flexors and glutes you should be fine. As long as you don’t over stretch. So don’t go through anything that’s not a normal range of motion.
Matt what about learning back flips , headsprings , front flips etc that players use for goal celebration. Is it fine to join gymnastics class to learn that
I am very flexible because i have been doing martial arts for very long, but i recently broke my foot and was out for 4 weeks. Is it good that my muscles got some rest in that period, or will it have a negative affect?
The problem is finding that sweet spot. Even pros have trouble with it, since not one program is universal for everybody, trial and error is usually what gets you there, but in the meantime a lot of injuries can occur. How come static stretching is a big no? Thanks
@@maksymvinyarskyy2813 Static strechting can degrade muscle performance. Instead of it when you stretch in warm up you should do dynamic strechtes.
@@maksymvinyarskyy2813 in warm up you should do dynamic strecthes not static
We should just change 2 minute Tuesday to 5 minute Tuesday
then it would be a 5 minute friday
Doesn’t roll of the tung aa well does it
Aswr bro ....
1:47 Reaaaal sneaky there with the flexing Matt

Devanshu Mishra Damn,I see you everywhere.. From Simply Soccer to Progressive Soccer to here.

Love your “scientific” videos that include research in these interesting topics keep it up man!!
Last night I did the millionaire hoy 15 minute yoga session that was in the footballers physique and I immediately felt great. Keep up the good work Matt.
I actually used to want to become super flexible to prevent injuries but u saved my life Matt, thank you 😁
Just your audacity to ask "how did I do on time" amazes me😂😂😂😂
talk about how the game is changing and how technical, mental, and physical abilities are changing as well
Finally someone who understands this. I always tried telling my friends that if you stretch too much you lose explosivness! Every time my team do warm ups and streching after we finish i feel to loose i thought it was just me but wow great video
Matt you've really helped me become a better football player
Because of you I might go to Barcelona youth camp!
Have you ever made a 2 min tuesday that goes for 2 minutes hahahaha ily
I used to stretch my leg muscles really a lot and picked up an ACL&Meniscus knee injury which ruled me out of the game for 1 and a half year, and I guess this may be one of the reasons of the injury...I'm back on track now but still, I think it really could have been the lack of knee joint stability caused by overstretching my leg muscles that contributed to my injury... hope this video will prevent some of the possible injuries, great job!👌
Is Zlatan, Bale a good range? make a video about soccer injury, like muscles strain and how to avoid it, and how they get it, thank you
Because of this video im not going to stop stretching
Damn, Matt out here flexing on us...lol
Great stuff and positive energy! Keep it up mate

I really needed to hear this. Thank you 🙏
Nice one Matt I knew some of this info but the way you explained it I think I learned something new! Very well done 👍🏻

Jeff from athlean x is really such a good therapist Matt, you should watch his videos about injuries it's really helpful...
Nice vid as usual Matt!
Very good explanation, much appreciated.
Best explanation on this topic I’ve ever seen 👏
I like the new Four minute Fridays👍🏻
Great video Matt keep it up 💪🏼
Love the videos matt
Very good topic Matt thanks for your information and this information will help me a lot because I am too flexible
Keep up the good work
One thing you forgot to talk about is static stretching and dynamic stretching
You should do Ted talks
You cant hate the man🙌
Thanks for an educative video. Will implement stretching regime for my son.
I have many of questions but Im going to watch all of your vids just incase you mentioned it before.

Zlatan ibrahimovic is very flexible as he is a taekwondo fighter still plays very well

Lol he said AIGHT roll clip
The question is how do we exactly know if we are too tight or too flexible???
I guess my muscle fibres are on the 'very tight range'.Gotta loosen it up
Good vid Matt.👷
I love your Videos you have helped me so much in my soccer and fitness thank you
Favorite UA-camr , Very informative yet very interesting
Man I’m done lol why is everything so fucking complicated😭😂
Nice video!
Naudi Aguilar of functional patterns calls the balanced range as tensegrity :)
Could you do a two minute Tuesday on protein ?
Zlatan enters the chat
Amazing videoo!!!

1:47 Welcome to the "Gun Show"
Yoga people: Sretching is great
Mett: hold my band
Great video great advice but how do I stretch my hips, glutes and lower back ?
Never thought that
I needed this video!
Just change it to a 4 minute Friday
Matt what about learning back flips , headsprings , front flips etc that players use for goal celebration. Is it fine to join gymnastics class to learn that
We should just make them ten minutes tuesdays😂🤪
I am very flexible because i have been doing martial arts for very long, but i recently broke my foot and was out for 4 weeks. Is it good that my muscles got some rest in that period, or will it have a negative affect?
Day in the life season 2
I want to read it
Nice vid! Buuut how do we "tighten" up our muscles if we think they are too flexible?
stretch less and lift weights and exercise more
2 minute tuesday more like 4:35 minute tuesday
Can you make a hamstring and hip stretching / foamrolling routine?
Goalkeepers are completely different than field players
Yesss man
How many 2 min tuesday videos will be over 2 min lol nice vid tho
You know how bale is very flexible and gets injured all the time does that mean he over stretches
How do you know if you're too tight, too loose or balanced?
Great video does anyone know of a good stretching program for footballers
JamesCD Unlimited I wish
JamesCD Unlimited yes Ive been giving a stretching programme from my physio
Simply ᏢᎬᎡFᎬᏟᎢ. ᏟᎪN ᏔᎬ KNᎾᏔ ᏔᎻᎬᎡᎬ ᎢᎾ FᏆNᎠ ᏆᎢ
JamesCD Unlimited check out ten thousand method channel and follow his stretching program
search for dynamic stretches. dynamic stretches before training/match and static stretches after
So should you still be stretching every day before and after training
So the problem isn't flexibility, it is weakness of the muscles/ligaments...
what about goalkeepers is it same?
How do you know if you are in the balanced point?
make it a 4 minute Friday
should we do stretching after the squats and other leg exercises.
If you can do a split does that mean that you are very loose?
