  • Both drives zip through transferring large files, such as a 50GB folder, within minutes. I'll share my test results when transferring files with the two drives simultaneously connected to a USB-C Mac, individual transfer times, and the time it takes to export a 4K video using these Solid State drives as external libraries for those projects.
    Overall I found that both drives excel with transferring and rendering files. The X8 Crucial by Micron drive edges out the Sandisk Extreme Portable v2 (rated at 1050 MB/s) in both read/write times. It also is priced lower per TB. It uses a smaller Allocation Unit Size for files, meaning that there is less wasted storage if you have a high quantity of small files in the KB size range.
    The SanDisk Extreme Portable drive however has the benefits of offering 256-bit AES hardware encryption. The X8 drive does not offer hardware encryption. The Sandisk is lighter weight than the X8 as well.
    Both drives are great choices for your storage and content creation needs, with the Crucial being the better price value, and the SanDisk offering a few extra features.

      @@Filmlove got my curcial 8x as per your suggestion and chat gpts opinion "Both the Crucial X8 and Samsung T7 are portable SSDs that offer fast transfer speeds and reliable storage in a compact form factor.
      The Crucial X8 offers read and write speeds of up to 1050MB/s and 1000MB/s, respectively, and is available in storage capacities ranging from 500GB to 2TB. It features a rugged design that is drop-proof up to 7.5 feet and is also water and dust resistant, making it a good choice for those who need a durable and reliable portable drive.
      The Samsung T7 offers read and write speeds of up to 1050MB/s and 1000MB/s, respectively, and is available in storage capacities ranging from 500GB to 2TB. It also features a compact and lightweight design, making it easy to carry around with you. However, unlike the Crucial X8, it does not have a rugged design and may be more prone to damage from drops or other accidents.
      Ultimately, both the Crucial X8 and Samsung T7 are great portable SSDs, and the best one for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences. If you need a drive that is rugged and durable, the Crucial X8 may be the better choice. If you prioritize portability and compact design, the Samsung T7 may be a more suitable option.""

    Out of the topic, but how did you make this video HDR? Was it your camera or the software export settings?

    • @Filmlove
      @Filmlove  Рік тому +1

      Glad to answer, it’s the project and export settings. I used Final Cut and selected a wide gamut color project instead of default Rec 709. Then the export file is 10-bit HLG. If your camera supports it, also recording in 10-bit HDR will give you more color/contrast to edit with

      Hi thanks for the watching! If they are the same price I’d say go with the Sandisk, I think it’s easier to take on the go, but quality they seem be similar so you’d make a good choice either way!

    • @Filmlove
      @Filmlove  Рік тому +1

      Performance wise, they both impress. I’d probably take Samsung T7, build quality felt solid and it has AES encryption (though my Mac had problems using their software 😅). No encryption on the X8

    Hey, one of the best videos I have watched.. have subscribed! :)
    I use a windows laptop (Alienware R5)…would the read write speeds possible differ?
    I’m buying the ssd for long term photo and video storage.. so should I go for the sandisk (100$ for 2tb) or crucial x8 (80$ for 2tb)…
    Will the sandisk over heating impact the long term usage of the drive? I’m not going to use it to render so shouldn’t overheat too much

    • @Filmlove
      @Filmlove  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching! As long as the USB-C ports on the R5 support USB 3 speeds or higher you should be good. For value I’d say go with the Crucial drives, read/write performance is great. If you need hardware encryption, then it’s worth the extra for a Sandisk/Samsung/etc with that capability. For long term reliability I’ll still need to wait and see, but after two years the 1TB Sandisk drive is doing well

    Hi mate. I’ve got Xbox series x and will buy external SSD to play old Xbox one games. My question is that if the speed 1050 mb/s mentioned is from USB C to C only? Because Xbox have USB port. If USB C to A will not give this speed, then X6 is more budget friendly option.

    • @Filmlove
      @Filmlove  Рік тому +1

      Looking at the Xbox series X specs it does claim to have USB 3.2 which would theoretically be able to support the 1050 mb/s speed, but I’m unsure if it will attempt to transfer at that rate when saving/retrieving information. Still, the X8 could possibly deliver faster performance than the X6 if your budget allows

    Would it work for my 512gb worth of iPhone photos. And how fast would it transfer them I’m looking to transfer them from my phone to the drive and then to my laptop

    • @Filmlove
      @Filmlove  9 місяців тому

      Hi! If your iPhone has a USB-C port (iPhone 15), it could be possible to copy directly into this SanDisk drive, however if it uses lightning (iPhone 14 and older) then you'd need to use a host computer to connect the phone to, and you can use a utility such as Image Capture (on MacOS) to import photos from your iPhone directly into any hard drive, external or internal. Depending on which model of SSD you purchase, I've seen transfer speeds from 500 MB/s, 1000 MB/s (the model that I'm reviewing), or even up to 2000MB/s, assuming that your iPhone/laptop can support USB-3 speeds

    X8 is only $59.99 for the 1TB version. Only $5 more than the X6, which is $54.99 and has read speeds up to 800 MB/s rather than the 1050 MB/s the X8 has. (edit: 6:58 noice)

    Anyone used this with iPhone 15 pro proRes recording? It’s a better price compared to the Samsung T7

    • @Filmlove
      @Filmlove  4 місяці тому +1

      I’ve used the Sandisk Extreme Portable (1000Mb/s write) for recording ProRes 4K 60fps without issue (except for I had to remove the iPhone 15 Pro case because the USB-C port cutout was too small for the cable, but if that’s the only problem, then you’re still doing good!)

    • @Filmlove
      @Filmlove  4 місяці тому +1

      Additionally, the SSD needs to remain unencrypted, the iPhone doesn’t have the software to unlock an encrypted drive, even for recording

    • @Filmlove
      @Filmlove  9 місяців тому

      Lol yeah at LEAST 65 Gigs, crazy right. If you do have a folder, one saavy move would be to create a single compressed zip file of everything, which will eliminate the need for a 1MB bin for each file. When you need to expand the zip file, don’t open it on the Sandisk
