Get kidnapped once: Shame on you Get kidnapped twice: Shame on the writer Go through a training arc to stop getting kidnapped only to get kidnapped a third time AND someone is hurt/killed trying to save you: You are officially a liability.
Have you heard the tale of Blue Angel the Useless? She is a duelist from the planet Yugioh VRains and she is said to be the ultimate culmination of the female supporting lead character in Shonen anime, a character formula the Mangaka Lords have been trying to perfect for decades: 1) She begins the series described as one of the most famous and amazing superstars of said world and one of couple best duelists in the entire online realm the setting takes place in. 2) Her first duel is against the Shonen protagonist-kun which is a bad sign already. To make matters worse, the generic bad guy organization brainwashes her and gives her better cards and all around makes her better, because her deck is considered garbage by their sophisticated edgelord standards. Needless to say, despite the "improvements" she loses handily when her one trick is busted by the Wise Protagonist-kun, breaking her entire deck in the process. 3) While moping about this incident, she gets kidnapped by the same evil organization of "relatable" Shonen edgelords and put to sleep in a big tower. The Great Protagonist-kun must ascend said tower and battle edgelord organization of hackers on his way up. Despite what was just described, he clearly states multiple times he doesn't give a shit about the useless girl and her cooties and is only doing the tower gauntlet to beat every mean haxor in Yugioh online. The last duel of this sub-quest is against Blue Angel's brother, who has dueled maybe once or twice before and he puts up way better fight against Handsome Protagonist-kun than his superstar hotshot sister with Satsui no Hado enhancements did. 4) After deciding she's been very useless for two entire arcs, Blue Angel boosts her deck and decides to suck less. She even wins a duel against a useless jobber who is also a girl, rendering Blue Angel's main disadvantage inert and letting her come out on top in the duel. 5) She then goes on a gauntlet together with Awesome Protagonist-kun to save Yugioh Online and runs into Antagonist-san's right-hand man. The two engage in a battle of ideals and after 1546 times that second rate bad guy sticks out his tongue like a cool edgelord character he easily beats the main female lead, forcing Amazing Protagonist-kun to backtrack and have to win her duel for her as well as defeat the main bad guy of the arc. Despite playing a children's card game, Blue Angel somehow manages to fly up 40 feet into the air and faceplant, nearly killing herself after losing as well. 6) After the obligatory season and opening change, Blue Angel goes through offscreen training and changes her gimmick (that's literally a thing, gimmicks are literally a thing and characters can turn "heel" and "face" like f***ing pro-wrestlers) into Blue Girl. She also heavily revamps her deck only to lose the first duel she participates in after her training arc to stop sucking so much and gets sidelined for the rest of the season. 7) Realizing she's goddamn useless, Blue Girl obtains the main power-up of the series - an AI that belonged to her childhood friend and sets out to battle alongside the Unbeatable Protagonist-kun to save her friend who is kidnapped and in a coma (because of course). She proceeds to lose the duel against the guy holding her hostage who wasn't even in his final form (literally he goes through multiple forms and battles the Indomitable Protagonist-kun like 5 times in that season and Blue Maiden (she underwent another gimmick change after losing last time) lost to his 3rd iteration out of five and got sidelined for the rest of the season. Forgot to mention she switches her deck out completely this season because she needed to market new cards but she forgot to win a single duel to show her cards off in the first place. 8) Realizing how goddamn trash she is, she cheers on the Unstoppable Protagonist-kun from the sidelines as he does her job for her and concludes her character arc for her during the rest of the excellently written season. P.S. PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIKE THIS SHOW AND THINK IT'S ONE OF THE BEST YUGIOH SHOWS!
Hey. In fairness, Hinata got kidnapped/captures several times, and a few peeps have outright died because of it. Her Uncle, and her Cousin in particular as standout examples. It really is how the writing is handled/portrayed. Hinata still best girl.
Worse still, Kishimoto claims he tried to write Sakura’s feelings for Sasgay “as realistic as possible” but girls still sent him letters complaining about this bullshit.
@@li-limandragon9287 It was realistic, and that was part of the problem. Young girls don't want to be told "BUT HE'S HOT THOUGH" isn't a valid reason to be obsessively in love with someone.
waj9876 It’s realistic only if you factor in Sakura being 12 years old in part 1. Unless Sakura has Hybristophilia she *should’ve* realistically stopped loving Sasuke in Part 2 when he was going to either Chidori her face or slit her throat. Kishimoto is an idiot to think any relationship could possibly work after that and sends a really terrible message to girls in general.
waj9876 By itself Sakura’s obsessively shallow crush isn’t the worst thing in the world. What IS the worst thing in the world is that three years later and after sasuke becomes a full blown terrorist she still hasn’t grown out of it. So much so that she even later has a child with him and sasuke fucks off for another 12 years but she convinces herself that this is was the right decision. That’s now kind of the worst.
Thrilla Whale Can’t forget how Sakura has plaster her own face on photo of Karin just so she can have a picture together with Sasuke. It’s one of the most fucked of relationships in all fiction, Kishimoto could’ve been merciful and given Sakura a decent husband or kept her single as recompense, but nooo she isn’t allowed to have character development.
God, I can't wait for Woolie to learn that Orochimaru just gets to hang out in the Leaf. Like, no big deal, he's just our Friendly Neighborhood Dr Mengele.
I have been waiting for that moment for soooo long. Like dude killed 2 Kages and bombed the village with snake kaiju...... But since he helped a little bit at the end of the ninja war he gets a free pass.
@@bkzomen1 When Chichi reminded Goku she loved him, Goku asked her to marry him on the spot. Also, before you @me, I don't watch Super or Boruto. Both sequels fucking suck.
@@djnosleeves85 Yeah, only Woolie described it completely wrong. Sakura's plan was "Confess to Naruto, so he stops following Sasuke for my sake and i will go and kill Sasuske, or more likely die trying" Still a dumb plan, but not as dumb as the thing Woolie was describing.
@@mongooseunleashed In a way it was actual good story of "I don't want two people i care about killing each other, especially Naruto that is actually doing good", but i'm super emotional so this very flawed plan is the best i can do. @@AceKuper Actually no he didn't. He said: Whether or not she was lying to him or herself (which it was both honestly), she is still terrible for even trying to pull that bullshit on Naruto. It was terribly manipulative of her.
bijuu-dama, the tailed beast bomb, is a literal nuke analog and nagato was planning to use the ten-tails as his instigator for a ninja-era Mutually Assured Destruction plan. so, yeah, naruto is VERY LITERALLY a walking nuke, and since kurama is unsealed at the end of the story, if kurama ever gets mad enough, he can totally just launch off a city-killer without naruto's input.
@@fightingmedialounge519 no, he can't, not without entering his inner space and dueling kurama for dominance again. that's the downside of being a jinchuriki with an unlocked beast, while it offers you more power, the beast gains more freedom and control. with most of the other beasts, that's not a problem because they're pretty calm, but with kurama and shukaku as ill-tempered as they are, they're more likely to just lash out at random. just look at naruto having to speak to kurama to calm him down after one of the shin clones in boruto stabbed naruto. there was nothing physically stopping kurama from lashing out, it was just naruto keeping him calm that stopped a rampage.
@@Yal_Rathol except yes he can. This was shown when he locked him back up after getting his chakara and again when kurama was talking about how naruto couldn't stop war. The reason he didn't against the shin clone was because it was unnecessary.
@@fightingmedialounge519 you're talking about when he entered the inner space and dueled kurama, if i recall the sequence of events correctly. the point is that he can't do it on a whim, at any time.
The doctor Manhattan thing is even worse, since with the actual blue dong, he can just be in two places at once and split his attention equally. Naruto very clearly has a real one, and bunch of fake clones. The clones are noticeably lower in quality too, so you know he was prioritising his job as more important than his kids. If he'd gone home and left a bunch of clones in the office, nobody would have complained. Naruto made the concious decision that this paperwork demanded his personal attention, and his son's birthday did not.
Honestly getting to that point in the series where its revealed Naruto keeps not physically showing up to shit with his family is when I put Boruto down. I didn't last long into the series lol
The thing about Sakura is at the very START of Shippuden, she had a while there where she was no longer as focused on Sasuke and she took the time to get to know Naruto and the struggles he goes through as a Jinchuuriki, she even got protective of him when Sai tried to rile Naruto up after they first met. She had a really good slow build that made you think "Oh fuck she may actually become a much better character who is focused on protecting the people that are still in her life." Sasuke stopped mattering, only Naruto was Gung Ho about it and she was like "I'm worried about you chasing him" This is actually shit that was happening in early Shippuden. AND THEN, right after the Pain arc where Konoha gets nuked and Naruto becomes the village hero, RIGHT AFTER, one of the cloud ninja say to Sakura "What is Sasuke to you" I kid you not, she suddenly has a complete breakdown and in that single page her entire character dies. From this point on, all of her motivation changes into the dumbest fucking nonsense ever with "fake" switching sides to Sasuke and her false confession to Naruto claiming they can settle down and forget Sasuke as though Naruto is dumb enough to buy that. The moment that breakdown happened, what little good will as a character she had built, was just utterly invalidated and deleted. It was unbelievable and I am still so mad about Kishimoto doing that to her.
Kishi wanted to her be kind of annoying and represent the cruelty Leaf Village has towards to Naruto, but fucked up and made a waste of character. The worst part is during Part 2 Sakura is a better character when Sasuke is nowhere near her... her literal motivation makes Sakura a worse character. Tsunade is everything Sakura should be, but isn't.
She wasn't being protective of Naruto with Sai, she was protective of Sasuke, who Sai was rightfully badmouthing. She was still dick crazy over Sasuke even at the beginning of "Shipuuden", which is why she froze from arousal when seeing him again after all these years when they got to Oro's hideout, where he first tried to kill her.
Naruto - "I want to become the hokage and become accepted by the village." Sasuke - "I want to get revenge for the murder of my clan and family." Sakura - "I want to hook up with Sasuke because he's hot."
"Sakura is a perfect character, layered as a thousand-year onion with more dimensions than a computer can count up to, her story is a true Shakesperean tragedy on par with that which has sculptured our understanding of literature and culture as a whole. It's just that Kishimoto wrote her entirely differently to what she is, which is to say, completely opposite to what I've just described" ~ Sakura fandom

reminder, sakura and sasuke are such bad parents that sarada wasn't convinced she was related to EITHER OF THEM until her sharingan awoke. naruto might be a pretty bad dad, but at least his kids know he's their father and at least they've spent enough time together that they all know what each other look like.
At least Naruto had an excuse "If I can't save Sasuke, how can I be a Hokage?" so it was a way to test his savior qualities too. Sakura is just "I love him, the rest doesn't matter".
@@machine1685 Hokage are meant to be the strongest of all the shinobi in the village. Both in will and physicality. So saving Sasuke is a personal thing that proves Naruto's will to not give up on somebody. One could argue that him beating Pain pretty much did that already, but saving Sasuke is a lot less "im doing this for everyone else" for Naruto. More, "I'm doing this for me" I suppose.
@@Willowposting When you put that way I can understand that. Naruto beating Pain proves his physicality (I mean, before the war arc but thats neither here or there) and not giving up on Sasuke proves his will. I can see that train of thought. Thanks.

Plague did a good video on villains where he mentions a character called Nox who everyone just knew as an evil murderer who rampaged and killed tons of people. In reality you find out he's trying to gather enough energy to rewind time far enough to fix all of his mistakes and undo everythiing. The heroes never find this out and just view him as a purely evil psycho. I thought that was a really neat touch.
Nod was technically right, All he had to do was keep going and after guiding people to live amongst the stars, kill *TRILLIONS* of people instead, But after his soul was crushed I guess it’s a moot point
Nox is what all well written villains should strive to be, if you the viewer kinda wants them to win then you've got yourself a good wonderful antagonist. I'd put Netflix Castlevainia’s Dracula in that category too.

I like how Sarada latches onto Naruto and treats him like father she never got. She's the only character who points out how fucking ungrateful Boruto is when it comes to parents.
The problem is, Sakura is so poorly written as a character you _can't_ criticize her as one. That's more than she deserves. Kishimoto has openly stated he's not good at writing romance, and romance is her entire character. She's deadass not enough of a character to be judged, even harshly. As boring as it is to just say author's bad therefor character bad, that's just the irreparable fact of the matter. Edit: On Pat asking why the Shadow Clones were banned, we don't really know. We can infer that because it splits your chakra evenly with each new clone, and a certain amount of chakra is necessary to keep living, it's possible you'd eventually clone yourself to death. Either that or the memory accumulation part of it would turn your brain into liquid shit if done too much.
Just because kishimoto made kurenai a useless pregnant widow, and had a character tell her that she needed to stay safe ONLY to make babies, doesn't mean he's sexist.

Same can be said for majority of the romances in Naruto even naruto and hinata feel pretty underwhelming outside the pain fight and Nejis death. Some of the characters didn't even meet through the story and ended up together.
And when sai comes back to really tell naruto about there plan to kill sasuke, naruto has an actual panic attack and passes out at the thought of sasuke dying. At this point he knows sasuke has apparently captured and killed another jinchuriki, which when it was Gaara he was ready to rip there heads off, but when sasuke has seemingly done it he’s begging for him to be forgiven.
Sometimes I forget canon Sakura is trash tier and isn't the confidant self sufficient power house fun punch girl that drops Sasuke like a bad habit and marries Ino instead that lives inside my head.
That would honestly be pretty interesting. We see more of those two together than we see Sakura with Sasuke. It wouldn't be hard to believe that two life long friends/rivals started out fighting over a boy but grew up and realized they didn't really like him. It also wouldn't be hard to believe that they could fall for each other. Wow, that is way better than the cannon.
@Jay I'm not saying that they would 'turn gay out of spite', just that there was more potential for story with them if it turned out their crush wasn't real at all.
@Jay "I think Ino and Sakura would have been a more interesting pairing." "OH SO YOU THINK JIRAIYA AND OROCHIMARU SHOULD HAVE ASS FUCKED EACH THEN, HUH!?"
Pat he can’t handle the mental strain, that’s the limiter. He’ll literally fry himself out if he does the Shadow clone jutsu forever. He also can’t continually sustain them forever actively. He’s always physically exhausted from the clones he uses now.
that's an issue of him getting proper restand not burning himself out, there's still nothing wrong with him sending out a few clones a day to practice a technique and have it mastered while doing literally no work.
My only defense for Sakura at all (she's seriously terrible) is that she is a much better character when Sasuke isn't involved in the story/being talked about at all. Sakura saving Kankuro/doing her medical ninja stuff was good, Sakura helping defeat Sasori was good, but the problem is that 99% of her character revolves around Sasuke, and he seriously snubs out any hope or potential of her becoming a better character.
Hold up... If Naruto can learn things by functionally hyperthreading the multi-core system that is him and his literal THOUSANDS of perfect clones, how is he still SOOOOO DUUUUUUMB!?
He has to keep that chakra ready in case it's needed for an emergency (mostly fights). Also the more clones the less time they have ever notice that the big clone army moments only last for a minute or two at most?
The5lacker Personality. Also he’s not dumb it’s just “oh, I literally have lifetimes of different knowledge in my head... how do I even remember my name with all these new memories?”. He’d have to constantly keep reading that shit for anything to stick and why do that when you can just get a clone to do it again? Nah, the real dumb shit is the forced family drama for no reason cause we really shouldn’t have Boruto be a series but maybe OVA’s at most to just check in on characters.
So im Sakura and I'm in love with a murder and a guy that definitely want to kill my friends and more people.................... guess I should still be in love with him because I was in love with him when I was a kid. But hey there both awful so at least they deserve each other.
And raise his child you had nothing to do with and he will Never help or even say a kind word to you tothe point the the basic grunt is all she lives for.
I think they've forgotten just how bad the Jurassic World woman get its. She doesnt just get juggled into the mosasaur, the pterodactyls spend a whole minute crushing and drowning her in between the air combo and mosasaur
Someone needs to tell Woolie that once he's done with the main story he sticks around the show to watch both the epilogue which is everything after The Last until the wedding AND more importantly the adaptations of the Shikamaru and Sasuke novels and how they alongside Orochimaru become the patriots to Naruto's Solidus
That's why Shikamaru isn't the Hokage. Naruto is there to be this giant figure head and beacon of hope and power. The leader of this village is a tactical nuke that helped kill a god and blew a hole in the moon. do you wanna fuck with that? Sasuke is his left hand and Shikamaru is his right. another nuke of a human. and then an actual tactical and practical genius who runs things with strategy and skill. The leaf should be untouchable now. (it kinda is, but it has reverse plot armor on it.)
When I was 12, I was a Sakura STAN. I truly didn't understand how poorly her character was written, and I was a similarly dumb preteen. Years and years later, I realize I only liked Sakura because I was gay lol
Alright, not that I'm judging younger you on taste, but this show had Temari in it. How was Sakura the one to make you peek out the closet, so to speak?
Woolie to my surprise made me realize something. People praise Itachi is this strong and deep character, and he already was fascinating as just a villain, and when he gets to be the hero (Who genocide his family and friends) everyone lived him. But that came at the cost of turning Sasuke crazy for a while. Sasuke had this justified vengeance that you couldn't really argue with. Yeah he tried to kill Naruto, but he was pretty high on his curse powers at the time and Naruto attacked first when he tried to peacefully walk away. And even after time skip he is cold, but it was more professional/I have no time for you so leave or die. But with the Itachi reveal it broke his character.
Remember when Orihime Inoue said that she wanted to be useful to Ichigo and then proceeded to help an enemy against him, and then not be useful at all afterwards
Yeah, but Orihime's powers were always more supportive than offensive, as seen when Yammy easily destroyed Tsubaki with little effort, but at least she tried, and even though she herself knew that she was outclassed, she still stood by Ichigo during his fight with Yhwach. I'd still say she'd a better character than Sakura in that regard, and while she does obsess a little over Ichigo, at least she has believable reasons for liking him.
@@kamikazelemming1552 I think a downside of all supporting characters written by Kubo just aren't useful or powerful enough and have to rely on lucky shots to win the fights that they do win, any battles we see them in, we just know they're going to lose. I still remember "Chad face down on the floor" became a running joke in the fandom.
The thing about Zuko’s redemption arc is that they stripped away everything that made a threat to the heroes and put him a situation where he could’ve just been happy with his uncle in that tea shop. Unlike Sasuke who gets a free pass and a handjob, Zuko earns and builds his redemption.
@@li-limandragon9287 It’s also great that not everyone in the group trusts him immediately. Katana literally corners him in his room and says “I don’t buy your story for a second and if you step a toe out of line I will put you in the ground.”
It’s even funnier when you realize that Sakuras motivation isn’t JUST that she thought that male friend from middle school was hot, but that she thought that boy from middle school /who got suspended and later expelled from school after almost murdering her OTHER close friend TWICE in the span of like a week and then moved away to JOIN THE CULT that just did a terrorism on her hometown and assassinated their president like a month or two prior/ was really hot.
Gonna put this here outside the thread Its actually really minor what Sasuke did within the naruto world. Compared to the Cloud constantly trying to kidnap little girls from the leaf(Kushina, Hinata), even doing so by violating a peace treaty resulting in the death of an innocent man,(who get butthurt on bee getting taken by Sasuke) The Stone village actively employing the Akatsuki, the terror group everyone gets upset about sasuke joining The Mist's tradition of having children murder one another and Mist kidnapping Rin and turning her into a nuke The Sand's unprovoked attack on the leaf All the fuckers we see Gaara kill who weren't a threat, and his sensei killing the Procter guy All the people its implied Kakashi assassinated when they talk about lightning blade and later his former time in anbu And those are just off the top of my head. Having it implied he killed a few samurai and killing Danzo (who technically became a criminal when he used Shusui's eye, and used to work with Orochimaru while he was a criminal) is like super minor. Never mind comparing it to other series like Vegeta who did NOT atone adequately by the time everyone accepted him. In fact its not even until the Super manga that we get an actual meaningful moment of Vegeta recognizing his past atrocities.
On a related note the fact people can accept Vegeta so easily but get so butthurt over Endeavor being even allowed the CHANCE to TRY and redeem himself is crazy. Genocide? Mass Murder? Terrorism? eh you can redeem yourself Off screen implied abuse? Fuck you, irredeemable!
@@In-The-Zone Vegeta takes the entire series to redeem himself though. On top of that he was raised to be that way in an entire society built around that (OG Broly is best Broly because he actually represents what a typical saiyan would expect from the Legendary Super Saiyan). He's an Anti-Villain (who relapses in the Buu Saga) up until his sacrifice but by then most of the series is over. Vegeta worked more or less because everyone continued to be weary of him but they were just too weak to really do anything about it and the only one who could do something was Goku...whose Goku. Endeavour on the other hand lives in real worldish place so his real worldish crimes are held to real worldish standards
See the mist children thing would be cool to explore, I mean I think had they gone ninja war vs other countries and less magic bs the whole series would have been better
24:00 Pat, to get you angrier, naruto doesn't address that until over half way into the story. He gets the power in chapter 1,doesn't find out he can remember everything until chapter like 300
and it takes Kakashi to even conceive that the idea is possible - a feat that Kakashi is proud of... as if it isn't common knowledge. :P EDIT: Replace "common knowledge" with "a thought anyone could come up with if I put an iota of creative consideration towards the idea of shadow clones."
@@Hitorio Most people don't try it because it's only useful when used in conjunction with Multi-shadow clone, which is forbidden for a reason, because it'll either just kill the user by using up all their chakra, or it'll drain them enough to knock them out, making them worthless in a fight or for recon. Only Uzimaki-clan or jonin+ with a ton of chakra can even make it work effectively, and for all but Naruto and co. it has major diminishing returns so there's not much of a point in trying
@@Valanway It only takes one shadow clone to utilize the effect. It can be used to give you 200% efficiency at something that doesn't require you to keep spawning clones (like academic reading). One Shadow Clone divides your chakra in half, so it's not that taxing to use for this purpose. Kishimoto assuming no one besides Kakashi would even have this IDEA is what's silly. If Kishimoto thinking his jutsu mechanics through metaphorically = fighting game developer making a fighting game: players would be breaking his game and doing all types of infinites and glitches because he didn't think about these "what if" scenarios.
I feel like the most important things about a redemption arc are remorse and sincerity, and I never felt that Sasuke, in the confines of the Naruto story (haven't seen Boruto), showed enough of those. He changes, sure, but it doesn't look like he really regretted doing the stupid shit he did. It's been a while since I read the manga though.
It’s because Sasuke has always been an introvert ever since he was a kid, and especially after the murder of his entire family by the one person he loved more than anything. He has never been one to show outward displays of emotion nor has he ever felt the need to express his feelings to anyone. So you’re never going to get him bawling his eyes out crying about how sorry he is to everyone. In his own way he does feel remorseful for his actions toward the people he has hurt.
OR, even better, a complete lack of either but you just be so cool that no one cares when you help defeat the final bad guy. Realistically, Viral never actually did anything to redeem himself in TTGL, but no one cares because he's Viral and now he's on the good guys team now.
There are two other things that are needed for redemption: 1: The character in question needs to experience some form of consequence. 2: The Moral Event Horizon remains uncrossed.
There is actually a reason Jurassic World's baby sitter lady died so hard. Her actress was a semi-big name at the time (had or still has her own TV show) and she was going to be the first woman to die in the movie franchise so she demanded the death to be the most outrageous death the series ever did so far.
And its because of big wet blanket takes like these two chucklefucks that a new precedent was set going forward "ONLY BAD GUYS GET KILLED BY DINOSAURS" and the movies WENT TO SHIT with Chris Pratt using his stupid Star wars force suggestion powers on every carnivore he comes into conflict with. The fact that they even use the term "Villain Dinosaur" is so god damn stupid. Never, NEVER should the phrase "villain dinosaur" be uttered in the context of Jurassic Park, the entire horror appeal of the franchise is the brutality and unfeeling chaos of natures teeth, how ruthless the animal kingdom is and the hubris of man for thinking they could control it.
“Naruto’s gonna run that place into the ground!” But Konoha is the most successful and technologically developed then ever before in Boruto, okay Pat. He’s been a pretty decent Hokage. Edit: They also don’t vote for Hokage, there is no democracy. They are appointed by the Daimyō, they’re completely under the boot heal of the elite Pat.
No but shikimaru is "somewhat" smarter. He should automatically be the hokage and fuck over the entire fanbase for 15 years and screw Naruto over on getting the job ! /s Edit: Sacarsim guys. im disagreeing HEAVILY with pat on this
M.C Zandogg He actually does a really decent job. He does what a leader should, and delegate to the people below him, aka Shikamaru. Shikamaru doesn’t really have personality to be the main leader while Naruto has personal ties to every single current Kage and plenty of minor Kages along with his unrealistic can do and see the best out of everyone attitude it makes sense why Naruto is leader.
The worst thing about Sakura that makes her so horribly written, is that her sense of respect is entirely based around strength, she looks down on every character UNTIL she see's how strong they are, suddenly even a creepo like Rock Lee is cool (and don't pretend he doesn't act creepy around Sakura the first few times they meet) when she see's how strong he actually is, because of that she is quite possibly the shallowest heroine in anime history, I haven't seen one that tops her without having redeeming qualities or a understandable backstory, she is truly the Karen queen of anime XD
On the subject of Naruto's tenure as Hokage, the thing people seem to ignore is that on a certain level he KNOWS he's not the absolute best man for the job, but it's the job he's wanted since childhood, and the job he's going to do to the best of his ability. That's why he surrounds himself with the people he personally knows are the best at what they do. That's also why he's never at home; because while he could very well delegate ALL his responsibilities to Shadow Clones, he makes a point of carrying out the most important duties himself. Even the most tedious time-consuming ones, like paperwork. I feel like if Naruto weren't the main character, people would better recognize his dedication.
Woolie it takes more to being a leader than just being a smartass Naruto is actually a competent leader and brought the village to prosperity even further, using his connections to every village he's ever interacted with. Shikamaru being the leader not many people would actually want to follow him because he lacks charisma and strength. Danzo was praised for his intelligence and military tactics, but Hiruzen Sarutobi became the third Hokage because he had more Charisma and clout. Same with Minato and Orochimaru. Madara and Hashirama.
Regarding the redemptive character arc, pat pretty much nailed it. And another really good example is Zuko in ATLAB where he is unanimously hated by the hero troup. And even when he tries to appeal to them he is immediately shut down. And would've likely stayed that way if he wasnt the ONLY ONE on the entire continent that could teach Aang fire bending! If he wasnt entirely essential to further the hero's journey he would've been thrown off a cliff.
You can do a redemption-lite for a shitty character who isn't actually an enemy. Have a bunch of bad things happen to them, them have a change of heart and sign up with the main-character's philosophy.
@@krism.6598 Naruto genetics = real world genetics? (Also turns out she got sick when she was young thats why she needs glasses some random itachi style disease).
Woolie this is detrimental to my fanfiction, you gotta stop! You can’t say this! But honestly Sakura is just the impetus so that bad things can happen, rather then them logically happening. Her character has been murdered because of it. Also true love is seemingly super strong in Naruto’s universe which is eh, but fair. Love makes you do crazy shit. Also the Land of Iron I love you scene was her trying to lie to herself so she could actually make the right choice for once and try and kill Sasuke. She couldn’t get past it though. She’s tragically in love with a murderer/war crime committer, that’s her arc Woolie, gotta get used to it. Edit: At the very least, the redemptive arc for Sasuke has been very realistic and not bullshit. He has been stopping himself from enjoying his family, from living with them in the peace he helped fight for (despite risking it). He probably could if he wanted, but he has been keeping that joy from himself since he doesn’t feel he deserves it, rather wanting to help search out threats for the village, for around 10ish years. He’s already done his sacrificial thing Pat, also Naruto is the most non-asshole, it can’t happen. Double edit: Sakura in Boruto though has actually been pretty nice and decently written. It’s hard to forget the past, but if you can then especially the recent SasuSaku moments are quite nice and enjoyable.
Logically happening according to what? The reason why sasuke wanted to kill the hokages and start a revolution was because they created an environment wherein Itachi needed to do 17 Dimensional Chess and assassinate his clan. Hell the clan wanted to rebel because they were treated like second class citizens and when the opportunity to keep them alive was presented the representative of the village (Danzo) said lol and then killed shisui.
kmoney890 I’m saying there’s really never any reason for Sakura to be in danger outside of other Shinobi but she just continually fucks things up for herself.
The problem is more so just that she's in love with Sasuke SOLELY because she thought he was hot when they were in elementary school, and she kept having that crush all the way throughout the entire series despite growing up, despite never having any chemestry with Sasuke, despite never even talking to him or sharing any meaningful or heartfelt moment aside from a few instances where he had to save her because she was being useless. I feel like overlooking the very fact that her "feelings" for Sasuke are shallow to begin with is a major problem, and ignores why her character gets ruined so hard. They didn't have a romance, there wasn't even an hint of something between them blossoming, but she held onto it for years despite all the atrocities Sasuke commited, and that's what makes this so irritating to sit through; it's a bad relationship that is completely baseless but keeps being forced, Sakura's feelings for Sasuke are unjustified, and Sasuke getting with her later is even more ludicrous because he never cared for her to begin with. I also feel that what you call Sasuke's redemption actually makes him an even worse character: I don't think it is a sacrifice to go away because he thinks he doesn't deserve to be happy, which in turn actively hurts both his wife and daughter. He should've either stayed with them and tried his best to make up for everything he had done, or not fuck Sakura and marry her to begin with. It's a load of shit, and it's why so many people hate Sasuke, he's the very definition of having your cake and eating it too.
Madeline Woof Yeah that’s what Sasuke is realizing though in Boruto, he will likely return home permanently after Kara or a year or two before (that is if he is still alive). The hurt he’s caused while likely be brought up more in the story as he becomes more of a major focus in it. He’s tried to make up for it best he can, I’d say actively pursuing enemies for years is pretty good but you can never completely redeem a character like him unless the narrative makes you forget about their crimes, which with the time travel arc shows that isn’t really happening. I feel like they had some chemistry but you’re right it was never correctly developed. Still, in Naruto you have one soulmate and it’s destined to be. Once they’re dead they’re dead, which while unrealistic is how Kishimoto writes his romance. I can get over the poor chemistry by believing they’re connected through fate, but it’s not that enjoyable you’re right. Still, I like Sasuke’s character in that it shows some realism. The people most deserving of good don’t always get it, and the people who have been troublemaking little shits don’t always get their just desserts, sometimes they even get rewarded. That’s life though, it isn’t fair. Sasuke has a lot of unfair advantages, which should be balanced out by some disadvantages due to his unique background and acidic character. Yet, strength prevails, and so he gets rewarded. I can see why people don’t like that but I can enjoy it to some degree.

Oh yeah, if the writer doesn't want to invoke that reaction but they do anyway then it's absolutely on them. My bad for not clarifying that.
Have you heard the tale of Blue Angel the Useless? She is a duelist from the planet Yugioh VRains and she is said to be the ultimate culmination of the female supporting lead character in Shonen anime, a character formula the Mangaka Lords have been trying to perfect for decades:
1) She begins the series described as one of the most famous and amazing superstars of said world and one of couple best duelists in the entire online realm the setting takes place in.

Worse still, Kishimoto claims he tried to write Sakura’s feelings for Sasgay “as realistic as possible” but girls still sent him letters complaining about this bullshit.
@@li-limandragon9287 It was realistic, and that was part of the problem. Young girls don't want to be told "BUT HE'S HOT THOUGH" isn't a valid reason to be obsessively in love with someone.
waj9876
It’s realistic only if you factor in Sakura being 12 years old in part 1.

Can’t forget how Sakura has plaster her own face on photo of Karin just so she can have a picture together with Sasuke. I'm losing my damn mind over Naruto being called "the walking nuke".
bijuu-dama, the tailed beast bomb, is a literal nuke analog and nagato was planning to use the ten-tails as his instigator for a ninja-era Mutually Assured Destruction plan.
so, yeah, naruto is VERY LITERALLY a walking nuke, and since kurama is unsealed at the end of the story, if kurama ever gets mad enough, he can totally just launch off a city-killer without naruto's input.
No, naruto can just lock him back up.

She had a really good slow build that made you think "Oh fuck she may actually become a much better character who is focused on protecting the people that are still in her life."
Sasuke stopped mattering, only Naruto was Gung Ho about it and she was like "I'm worried about you chasing him" This is actually shit that was happening in early Shippuden.
To bring up something from a previous conversation with Pat and Woolie, "Arc Nullification."
@@NobleNomad to be fair, Sasuke looked pretty hot on that reveal with the half open robe
When did she have a breakdown? Her character really didn't die yet.
Sakura is a literal heel. She consistently makes decisions contrary to what the thesis of the protagonist faction represents.

Sasuke - "I want to get revenge for the murder of my clan and family."
Sakura - "I want to hook up with Sasuke because he's hot."

@@machine1685 Hokage are meant to be the strongest of all the shinobi in the village. Both in will and physicality.
Funny thing about Nox; he succeeds in turning time back....FIVE MINUTES. Then you watch as his soul dies.

Yeah, but Orihime's powers were always more supportive than offensive, as seen when Yammy easily destroyed Tsubaki with little effort, but at least she tried, and even though she herself knew that she was outclassed, she still stood by Ichigo during his fight with Yhwach. Its actually really minor what Sasuke did within the naruto world.
Compared to the Cloud constantly trying to kidnap little girls from the leaf(Kushina, Hinata), even doing so by violating a peace treaty resulting in the death of an innocent man,(who get butthurt on bee getting taken by Sasuke)
The Stone village actively employing the Akatsuki, the terror group everyone gets upset about sasuke joining
The Mist's tradition of having children murder one another and Mist kidnapping Rin and turning her into a nuke
The Sand's unprovoked attack on the leaf
All the fuckers we see Gaara kill who weren't a threat, and his sensei killing the Procter guy
All the people its implied Kakashi assassinated when they talk about lightning blade and later his former time in anbu
And those are just off the top of my head.

Vegeta takes the entire series to redeem himself though.
Itachi did nothing wron- oh yeah, he did it all for Sasuke, scrap that
Itachi should’ve dropped his baby brother into a ditch at first opportunity.
Legit, if Itachi did all that shit for a better character I'd have been so down
24:00 Pat, to get you angrier, naruto doesn't address that until over half way into the story. He gets the power in chapter 1,doesn't find out he can remember everything until chapter like 300
and it takes Kakashi to even conceive that the idea is possible - a feat that Kakashi is proud of... as if it isn't common knowledge. :P
EDIT: Replace "common knowledge" with "a thought anyone could come up with if I put an iota of creative consideration towards the idea of shadow clones."
If Kishimoto thinking his jutsu mechanics through metaphorically = fighting game developer making a fighting game:
players would be breaking his game and doing all types of infinites and glitches because he didn't think about these "what if" scenarios.

The new Boruto segment does, they

really embarrass Sasuke by making him relive his teen
It’s because Sasuke has always been an introvert ever since he was a kid, and especially after the murder of his entire family by the one person he loved more than anything. He has never been one to show outward displays of emotion nor has he ever felt the need to express his feelings to anyone. So you’re never going to get him bawling his eyes out crying about how sorry he is to everyone. In his own way he does feel remorseful for his actions toward the people he has hurt.
@@ShardSpyder I think you're mixing up introversion and being a psychopath.
OR, even better, a complete lack of either but you just be so cool that no one cares when you help defeat the final bad guy. Realistically, Viral never actually did anything to redeem himself in TTGL, but no one cares because he's Viral and now he's on the good guys team now.
There are two other things that are needed for redemption:
1: The character in question needs to experience some form of consequence.
Edit: Sacarsim guys. im disagreeing HEAVILY with pat on this
You're right but it doesn't make much sense; Naruto doesn't have a mind for administration. The Hokage should've been Shikamaru
@@Hanja45 now if only people could give bort a chance before aborting his story.
For the whole time i've been watching Pat, i've never heard him say anything positive about the Naruto series.
Woolie, you are ever on point with insane titles, and I love you for it.
That is a hell of a title.
5:53 I love this description, Naruto to a T in this arc.
Woolie it takes more to being a leader than just being a smartass
Naruto is actually a competent leader and brought the village to prosperity even further, using his connections to every village he's ever interacted with.
In this clip woolie looks like an xbox Kinect wouldn't register him
Regarding the redemptive character arc, pat pretty much nailed it.
The most interesting story from naruto was a filler arc where his clones revolted
You can do a redemption-lite for a shitty character who isn't actually an enemy.
Have a bunch of bad things happen to them, them have a change of heart and sign up with the main-character's philosophy.
iamnuff1992 Dimitri (Fire Emblem) is a great example
She's history's greatest monster.
Are we sure about that? There’s also Big the Cat.
Crazy how both Sakura and Naruto were "Dick Crazy" for Sasuke

WOOLIE. "THE WALKING NUKE" IS THE BEST.
Edit:
At the very least, the redemptive arc for Sasuke has been very realistic and not bullshit.
Double edit:
Sakura in Boruto though has actually been pretty nice and decently written.
From how it was explained, shadow clones became forbidden due to it requiring a high amount of chakra to use.
3-5 is enough for most Jonin iirc, any more and they're just liable to fucking ice themselves or take themselves out of a fight.
" Walking nuke" lmao that was a good one woolie
