This film is massively underrated. One of the few films that really hit me as a child and stuck with me throughout. It's not a comedy. It's incredibly moving and somewhat tragic.
It truly is a striking film to witness as a kid. This movie has stuck with me for 15 years, and I only just watched it again yesterday. It's a good film, but the last half of the story and its ending feels very rushed.
This is one of those films that tanked in the box office and received mostly negative reviews, but many years later it becomes appreciated for its originality and beauty. This was a fantastic film and should have never been panned the way it was.
I remember watching this movie when I was 10 years old and I didn't really understand English that well but now after many years I tried looking for it and I remember Robin Williams distinct voice and that's how I know he played as the robot in this movie. Brings back a lot of fond memories.
This movie is really good if you are looking for a drama/romantic fantasy. In the trailer, they sell it as a comedy or some family movie. This movie actually crosses on some intense ethical boundaries, like why we call a robot a robot, and declare that it cannot think or feel. Loved it.
I vividly remember that was one of the reasons it bombed. Few of my friends (when were all ages 6-8)have seen in theaters and their family was ticked that It was a lot more mature than advertised.
Nah they're somewhat right. It didn't deserve to get trashed as much as it did, because it is a good film. It's just the ending is rushed and the story is kind of uneven. It feels like a 3 hour movie cut down to 2.
It's strange coming here 20+ years after I first saw this film as a child, to have remembered it so fondly, yet to find out that the film was actually flop and received negative reviews from critics. The story touched me as a kid. Even then I understood the story wasn't perfectly written or executed, but it was such an interesting idea and the film got so much right. Glad to see others here loved the film also. I'm quite shocked right now it was so poorly received, I would have never have expected that..
I don't understand why this film was (is?) considered a flop. I love Bicentennial Man! It's definitely one of the more memorable roles that he's played. It irks me that in the current stream of tribute dedicated to Robin Williams, his role in this film has hardly been mentioned. You were an awesome guy Mr. Williams! Hope you're in a much better place now.
i totally agree! i have cried and lauged very much in this movie! i hardly believe that it is one of the memorialble roles of him! Rest In Peace dear Robin Williams , your memory will be always be kept in our hearts!
Pirate Well...you can call that a commercial flop perhaps but I think critics didn't like it as well. I won't ever call it a "flop" because it reached out to some of us audience.
I remember seeing this in the movie theater on Christmas day with my parents while my older sister and her ex boyfriend saw Green Mile. It was pretty good. May Robin Williams rest peacefully.
This movie is just so kind, humane and touching. I always watch it when I feel depressed. And that's the movie that made me fall in love with Robin Williams. Thank you, Robin.
This movie is brilliant :) I never cried ever while watching movie about robot, but this movie is exeptional. Every human should watch this, because you can find a true meaning of life.
***** Because a movie is called a flop if it doesn't make as much money as it costs to make. Bicentennial man cost $100m to make but the worldwide gross was just short of $90m.
One of the most emotional movies in my heart ever...I watched it when I was 12 and I bursted into tears...because of the poor robot guy...all members of his master had passed away when he was still living..so miserable...
the problem with this movie was this awful trailer. this movie is the ultimate love story. it is a drama, has the most beautiful soundtrack by james horner and robin williams was amazing. he gave andrew humanity, and honored asimov the best he could.
Just watched this movie tonight for the first time and gotta say it's one of my all time favorite movies I've ever seen. Absolutely underrated movie. A must watch if you haven't seen it. I called my mom to tell her we have to watch it soon since she hasn't seen it yet. Such a great one!
Watched this when it came out on video as a kid but slept through it mostly and now I just got done watching it all the way through 17 years later and man this movie had me in my feelings...great movie.
It was 1999, Bill Clinton was still President and we had a budget surplus that started to develop latter technologies. Once Bush was brought in, down went those developments.
outinsider Yep we out sourced our domestic industries and started making tons of money right about the time Clinton came in to office, that and the actions and bills signed in to office during Regan's time were being realized. So how exactly right after Clinton left office did it all fall apart? It was due to the actions and bills signed in to office during Clinton's 8 years and all those wonderful loans forced to be approved to people with out the ability to pay them back. Yep got to love all the wonderful things Clinton did for our country. Reduced our military actions and presence to a point that our enemies felt embolden to attack our home land. Then on top of it reduced our educational programs to nothing. I was awarded a full scholarship to College for all the things I did while in High School. Thanks to Clinton and the "amazing" thing he and his people did, my scholarship was revoked (was told the programs were all canceled to save money) So we are in such great shape now thanks to the actions and policies our all great and powerful former president Clinton and his staff enacted. Yep we are sure lucky.
I just watched this movie on youtube, I haven't seen it in years and forgot what happens in most of it but I thought it was amazing. I'm not an emotional guy but I teared up at the end, such an amazing film!
Maybe the reason, why it is so underrated, is that many people wanted to see a "comedy with Robin Williams". What they got instead was a rather serious movie about life and what it means to be human. When I was watching the movie I didn't except to see a comedy but a more serious movie; I was not disappointed and enjoyed this movie very much.
This movie is a masterpiece. I think i have seen it 4 times now since it ever came out. I can easily put it all to Robin Williams acting but that would be wrong. True he does a exceptional job but even if you think it is a sad and depressing movie it means you felt with the Robot. Immortality that missed a chance with Little Miss because of not understanding mortality enough yet. But found the wisdom eventually and even chose death over all time alone. Many of us would jump at the chance to gain immortality but when even a machine is tired of watching everyone die he cares for and of everlasting existence itself. Curse or blessing? Well it's something to wonder about.
I don't care what year it is for you if you see this. If you enjoy a film that has character development that genuinely showed the magnificent skill of Mr. Robin Williams's talent as he transforms internally and externally from a simple automaton to an entity discovering his own soul as you follow along in your own discovery of what having a soul actually means, then this is the movie for you. This is not considering the exceptional cast who portray their characters to be unique and appealing with each having their own special relationship with the android as they follow along with him on his journey. And this movie is a absolute MUST if you are a sap for the feely touchy moments, this movie is filled to the brim with it, you're gonna cry...a lot. I once thought being a man meant not admitting you have tears. I was wrong.
In my opinion, this isn't a bad movie. It can be very long and sappy, but moments are genuinely touching, the costuming and make-up are spectacular, and Robin Williams is just so darn lovable in and out of costume.
Oh wow, I remember I watched it when I was a kid, and I couldn't remember it, I knew it had a sad ending, but wow, I just finished watching this movie and the ending is super sad. One of the best sci-fi movies I've ever seen. the virtual effect was incredible. I really miss Robin Williams :(
I remember that my dad and I watched the trailers for this movie and some of the posters and we thought it would be like Ms Doubtfire, the trailers sold the movie as it was another comedy for the family so my dad took me to see it and I remember some talking between my dad and the guy selling the tickets and he told that we should choose another movie because it wasnt a really entertaining movie for kids, but we bought the tickets anyway and I remember I passed out during the movie also the theater was Empty! So the guy was right after all it was a 2 hours drama with barely any comedy in it. But I watched it a couple of years later when I was older and started to actually apreciate dramas and I really loved it.
This was on the TV one day a few years ago, never heard of it before and it was several minutes into it. I was a little intrigued with the story-line, but a lot because of who was in it, and ended up watching it the whole way through. Never forgot about it, though it makes you wonder why a machine would want to become a human with all their faults and frailties etc.
Funny how 3 weeks ago we never would have imagined robin williams a beloved actor, comedian would die by taking his own life. May he rest in piece on of the funniest men in the world.
This film is massively underrated. One of the few films that really hit me as a child and stuck with me throughout. It's not a comedy. It's incredibly moving and somewhat tragic.
No actually this movie sucked
Read Isaac Asimov's original story if you liked it
It truly is a striking film to witness as a kid. This movie has stuck with me for 15 years, and I only just watched it again yesterday. It's a good film, but the last half of the story and its ending feels very rushed.
I don’t think marketing it as “From the director of Mrs. Doubtfire” helped on this one.
So, it’s Cyber Doubtfire? Just a little too close in concept.
@@i.l.l.l.l.movies don't suck they have no lips ! 😂
This is one of those films that tanked in the box office and received mostly negative reviews, but many years later it becomes appreciated for its originality and beauty. This was a fantastic film and should have never been panned the way it was.
as people there are times we don't recognize something being good until its too late and gone
Massively underrated film, a visual masterpiece, it is one of his best & one of my alltime favourites, disappointing that most people aren't into it
I remember watching this movie when I was 10 years old and I didn't really understand English that well but now after many years I tried looking for it and I remember Robin Williams distinct voice and that's how I know he played as the robot in this movie. Brings back a lot of fond memories.
Ya
But the worst movie was 2001’s AI (Artificial Intelligence)
This movie is really good if you are looking for a drama/romantic fantasy. In the trailer, they sell it as a comedy or some family movie. This movie actually crosses on some intense ethical boundaries, like why we call a robot a robot, and declare that it cannot think or feel. Loved it.
Have you seen as Major from Hellsing?
I vividly remember that was one of the reasons it bombed. Few of my friends (when were all ages 6-8)have seen in theaters and their family was ticked that It was a lot more mature than advertised.
This movie is a prime example of when critics are wrong!
@asian dude say sike, right now!
Who even listens to critics when you want to watch a movie
100%
Nah they're somewhat right. It didn't deserve to get trashed as much as it did, because it is a good film. It's just the ending is rushed and the story is kind of uneven. It feels like a 3 hour movie cut down to 2.
One of the most depressing movies of all time. I always shed a tear in the end.
Same :(
It's strange coming here 20+ years after I first saw this film as a child, to have remembered it so fondly, yet to find out that the film was actually flop and received negative reviews from critics. Same here, I thought this movie was brilliant!
Exactly my thought!
It's considered a flop because it did not earn as much money as it cost to make.
Pirate Well...you can call that a commercial flop perhaps but I think critics didn't like it as well. I won't ever call it a "flop" because it reached out to some of us audience.
Rest In peace, Robert. You were an amazing actor, and most importantly, you were loved.
ROBIN. Robert? WTF?
I know you wrote a good thing, but his name is actually Robin Williams, rip
I know his name is Robin. My auto correct corrects me even when I'm right...
Aisha Jones so, you can freely use modification button straight at your comment's right so that you can correct it. nice comment however.
Why you always lyin? You wrote Robert
My favorite robin Williams movie. Will be watching it soon in his honor!
i did just now, watch this again after a long time. RIP Andrew (RW)
kiattikhun tanagul hes gone again
I remember seeing this in the movie theater on Christmas day with my parents while my older sister and her ex boyfriend saw Green Mile. It was pretty good. May Robin Williams rest peacefully.
I watch this movie and cry at what happens to on-screen Robin Williams, and 2 days later he actually dies. Jesus christ.
Rest in peace.
This movie is just so kind, humane and touching. I always watch it when I feel depressed. And that's the movie that made me fall in love with Robin Williams. Thank you, Robin.
it will make you even more depressed watching this
+Lee Cameron lol you took your time to reply :)
I just came across this video today this was my childhood finally found this film again its really underated
+Lee Cameron yeah I guess it is. Still makes it a wonderful story though.
I remember watching the film countless time back in the day as a kid
My opinion is normally in line with the critics but DAMN did they fuck up rating this film. This shit was awesome. One of my favorite movies ever.
Watched it again in 2019.... Still remains a masterpiece.
This movie is brilliant :) I never cried ever while watching movie about robot, but this movie is exeptional. Every human should watch this, because you can find a true meaning of life.
If you never cried while watching a movie about a Robot, you should watch "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" (I think it came out in 2001.)
RIP. And thank you for the amazing movies you left behind for us and for future generations
This movie was a huge part of my childhood but I could never watch it all the way for some reason.
cause it's boring and depressing
I hear some good things about this movie.
It takes a strong heart.
Such an underrated movie, it's my favorite Robin Williams movie and one of my favorite movies in general. I just managed to get it on DVD.
this movie always make me crying at the end
Yup
***** Because a movie is called a flop if it doesn't make as much money as it costs to make. Bicentennial man cost $100m to make but the worldwide gross was just short of $90m.
I have watched this movie probably about 50 times it never gets old,it's truly a masterpiece,by far top 5 movie of all time.
One of the most emotional movies in my heart ever...I watched it when I was 12 and I bursted into tears...because of the poor robot guy...all members of his master had passed away when he was still living..so miserable...
This movie, the Robocops, and the first three Terminator movies I would watch all the time when I was little. Robots amazed me a lot
YES!!!!
They don't amaze you anymore?
I was a kid when I watched this film and cried a lot... Its story was very heart touching 💕
But did you also see AI (Artificial Intelligence) in 2001?
the problem with this movie was this awful trailer. this movie is the ultimate love story. it is a drama, has the most beautiful soundtrack by james horner and robin williams was amazing. he gave andrew humanity, and honored asimov the best he could.

This movie is now one of my favorites. I have always loved a strong and growing main character.
Watched this when it came out on video as a kid but slept through it mostly and now I just got done watching it all the way through 17 years later and man this movie had me in my feelings...great movie.
I am somewhat disappointed that it is currently 2014, and there is noting even close to Andrew on the market. The movie started in 2005
It was 1999, Bill Clinton was still President and we had a budget surplus that started to develop latter technologies. Once Bush was brought in, down went those developments.
They have a robot dog called spot. Look up Boston dynamics.
James Mcenanly because people are more concerned with checking their Facebook instead of being creative.

outinsider Oh and bush was no better.... just didn't have the intelligence to hide all his mistakes and problems.
I watched this movie for the first time yesterday. All I can say is.....
...right in the feels.
top 10 movies of all times!
I cried at the end of this movie.
We have Siri...Meh..Close enough..

This movie is actually such an amazing film in a philosophical state of mind.
Rest in peace Mr. Williams. This movie was my childhood..
I just watched this movie on youtube, I haven't seen it in years and forgot what happens in most of it but I thought it was amazing. I'm not an emotional guy but I teared up at the end, such an amazing film!
Watched this at school 2 years ago. Almost made me cry in class. I was holding my tears
This film should be re-released. Not remade, simply re-released. With better marketing.
Maybe the reason, why it is so underrated, is that many people wanted to see a "comedy with Robin Williams". What they got instead was a rather serious movie about life and what it means to be human. R.I.P Robbin Williams. This movie is my favourite movie! loved watching it soon much.✌👍👏
this is THE BEST MOVIE i've ever watched! absolutely fantastic!
I remember watching this when I was little, loved it!
Bicentennial Man - Underrated Diamond
The best movie ever i always cried at the end
They played it like a romantic comedy, but it was really sad at the end.
it's 2013 WHERE MY ROBOT! *begins crying... because he wants a robot*
One of my favorite movies, R.I.P Robin Williams.

Really moving acting may all fans and his family and friends feel his magical presence with them he is alive in spirit and in our hearts.

This movie left me in tears at the end
I still remember this movie from years back when I was 7 or 8 years old. Fascinated me about robotics and humanity!😆
Oh wow, I remember I watched it when I was a kid, and I couldn't remember it, I knew it had a sad ending, but wow, I just finished watching this movie and the ending is super sad.

"Will you perform an experiment with me for the sake of science?"
Best. Line. Ever.
Love bicentennial man robbie is missed by thousands xxx
It takes an understanding of what humanity really is - I watched this as a psychology student and Humanist, Cried my eyes out.
This was on the TV one day a few years ago, never heard of it before and it was several minutes into it. This was an excellent movie that brought a new light to my thoughts on robots
I've seen the movie twice, the second time being less than an hour ago and I have really enjoyed it- a film with a profound message
This comment is quite old

2005 eh? hmm...wow we had high expectations.

Funny how 3 weeks ago we never would have imagined robin williams a beloved actor, comedian would die by taking his own life. May he rest in piece on of the funniest men in the world.

Rest in peace! Master Williams ;(
i also just remembered it and decided to download it, in here to make the wait durable :)
could not agree more :)
I loved this movie. RIP ROBIN WILLIAMS
This and The Abyss are my all time favorites.
Despite it's huge marginal scientific inaccuracies, this film is pretty emotional that ends in style.
This was one of the best but saddest movies I've ever seen.
i saw this movie when i was 12 in 2001
now i woke up in the middle of the night to know what is this movie name
it stayed in my mind for 11 years
