- Hello everyone! This week I sang What Else Can I Do from Encanto!
This is the song from Encanto that has grown on me the most. I wasn’t a huge fan the first time I heard it but since I started working on this cover, it’s been such an earworm.
There’s no video next week as I’ll be taking the last week of every month off moving forward, but starting in March I have some really fun covers to post! Thank you all for your ongoing support as always. It means the absolute world to me! I’ll see you guys on the 5th!

When you make lyrics different from songs it's really cool and hits different, it would be awesome if u sung it by yourself!
"Flor de Mayo, by the mile" always gets to me. That kind wordplay is something you rarely see in a Disney film, and if I'm being honest, Spanish is just such a beautiful language

It's *very* Lin-Manuel Miranda, though. He does a lot of wordplay and, like, lyrical layering (I'm sure there's a technical term for it, but this sort of thing isn't my area of expertise)

One thing I like about this song is that Mirabel says: "All I know are the blossoms you grow, but it's awesome to see how you rise". She doesn't say something like "I knew you could do this all along" but instead admits that only knew the surface level of Isabela and is excited to see that she's more than what she thought she was.

See the thing is though she's only grown flowers her whole life. When wouldn't it be far more helpful for her to be able to grow crops? Like food for the people to eat that's far more helpful than f****** flowers. It seemed like she didn't even know she could grow anything besides flowers. Which is f****** weird because how will her gift help the people? Clearly her gift was meant to grow food for the people! And her grandmother basically stopped her from being as helpful as she can possibly be and providing food for the whole village by demanding she's perfect? I don't know it's just f****** weird she isn't growing wheat and corn and vegetables and fruit trees and stuff right?

@WhitneyDahlin it's almost like her flower growing gift isn't the thing the family valued but instead the nice facade she gave. Like, look at our perfect, pretty, feminine daughter. Since she didn't even know she could grow other things it means she never experimented, and they made her do the same thing all her life.

I love how this songs shows that it’s OK to express negative emotions as well as positive ones and how cathartic it is to do so. I love how it shows Mirabel going from trying to hug Isabella to save the miracle, to her just cheering her on as she comes into her own. It’s beautiful!

As an artist who often struggles with feeling like my pieces need to be perfect to be worth creating, this song really resonated with me when i first heard it. I'm so happy you decided to do a cover of it, amazing as always!

Fellow creator here, of the writing variety. I find I often create my best work when I don't worry and just let myself have fun. Do what you want and try to have fun doing it - the journey is an important part of the process. We all make mistakes along the way, that's just part of the learning process, and it's fine!
As a recovering perfectionist, I really do wish there was a perfect line I could tell you to make everything fall into place, and yet, I realise the futility and irony of this desire. All I can do is offer some encouragement and guidance, because ultimately, we all have to make our own journeys. Good luck on yours!

My experience with this song is the same as yours. I really didn’t care for it at first, but after rewatching the movie and listening to the song more, I really like it. Same with Waiting on a Miracle.
Watching the bts stuff about them helped a lot too.

I love how her voice gets slightly softer when she sings: "And I owe this all to you", like she is sorry for being mean to Mira, and thankful for what she did. I wish they'd included that to the original. Even tho I think Anna's voice is a bit too low for Isa, I absolutely love the way she sings with so much power.

I love this song, especially since, in the movie, before this moment, Isabella seemed so 'fake', like she was acting less like a person and more like a show animal, even her singing voice was VERY 'dainty' and feminine, and then suddenly it comes with this song where it is just strong and passionate instead of her usual show attitude.

When I heard leaves from the vine and good ridins I felt so sad for some reason. It just shows how powerful your voice is when you sing.

Well, mirabel and Isabella are 6 years apart and they get a gift when they hit five. When mirabel was born Isabella already had her gift and for a year at that. It was plenty of time for they’re grandma to shape Isabella into someone “perfect” so the line “all I know is the blossoms you grow” is quite literally that, mirabel has never seen Isabella grow anything BUT flowers her whole life.

While I know most everyone prefers Surface Pressure, this song actually made me cry the first time I saw Encanto because Isabela and Mirabel's relationship reminds me of my own fraught relationship with my sister. Both of the sisters have assumptions about each other that melt away over the course of the song as Mirabel takes the time to listen to Isa's perspective. I wish it were that easy in real life.
