- Why was Sam Altman FIRED from OpenAI? Lots of people speculating about why OpenAI fired the well known face behind ChatGPT. This is my take.

Thank you bro! There's a lot to take in - and now he's even talking about possibly going back to them? One of the wackiest stories in tech in a long time. There are a zillion angles for this one at this point. All I was going off of was speculation, but it seems little facts are starting to trickle out. What a time!
I'm not well versed on this particular issue, but nothing that happens in the corporate world surprises me.
Like you nothing surprises me either in the corporate world Philip. Long story short the employees all got together and said okay you want to cut Sam out? Then we will all leave, Microsoft said sure we'll take all of you. The board said what do you want then - so the employees said most of you jerks to step down and bring Sam back. They stepped down, Sam came back, and they've replaced those members of the board with more Sam friendly members lol. The drama in tech ...😆
OR.. he didn't disclose the actual risks with chatgpt, there might be a reason he carries that backpack that he wasn't transparent about...
That's another great point right there. I have perused the singularity Reddit quite a bit and there is a lot of sentiment to that regard. I think the safety aspect of it is a double-edged sword. On one hand it keeps the chatbot from going off the rails, but on the other hand it lobotomizes it... Reasoning requires a lot of resources. But if it were to out reason us, would it necessarily be bad? I'm not saying it would be bad or good but if it were extremely strong in reasoning, maybe it too would have the capability to look around and say what the hell is going on. Or the more boring answer: it would just destroy us. Who knows?
Interesting that their revolutionary platform with AI needs a change at the top already. Sounds like more of a business issue than a tech issue. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Rich! In the end everything is a business issue at those levels. I was just thinking more along the lines of what was affecting the business and I don't think it was actual 'business' (market, forecasting, etc) decisions but something technical he might have promised and could not deliver on. Because under his leadership he took it from 0 to a $90 billion... No small feat for sure. The fact that they chose someone in a technical position to take the helm hints that there might have been something at the deep technical level that needed attending to quickly. I guess time will tell - but this came so soon after the fact that they said they weren't taking any new signups It leads me to believe something had to have been over promised. Great to hear from you man!
