17:22 sometimes I think it’s better going for a hard point than hoping for a VP- definitely a case where you can throw down 2 roads to the 11 sheep so you have an open settlement spot other than your VP or City win
If it’s the road to rank 1 series, you need to show where you are on the leaderboard at either the beginning or end. I lose interest quickly when that storyline isn’t there, and it’s not just me.
Nice game! i think at 17:20 i would build 2 roads toward the 11. It gives you lots of rolls to just settle for the win the next orbit. I think reds chances to win that orbit were a little slim.
hi dandy grate video, as usual. Do you think that go for the settlement at this point is a better option than pull? 17:20 given your numbers and production, drop the two roads and wait for the settlement in the next turn is most probable to achive than pull a vp, i think
Really not sure why black left there, honestly. Didn't seem like he was particularly hostile in chat which makes me think it might've been an internet thing and not a ragequit thing but idk.
Did you watch back about your city placemeny? I just feel the 10-11-3 was actuakly better since you kind of want that 9 ore blockes. The 3 now straight gives a city and isnnever blocked. 10-11 are free cards. It didnt change anything, and there is merit to getting 3 sheep from the 6. Interested on your thoughts
Howdy brotha, newer player here - why didn’t you use the knight at 7:30 (or turn after)? Hindsight is 2020 but lost a few ore rolls in the process. Were you saving the knight for once you settled on the 8-3 and you became more of a target? Would like to hear your reasoning on deferring a knight play when you are blocked. Cheers!
Thank you Dandy for the positive vibes on the channel! I've heard you are a chess fan and I consider myself a chess fan too! Is there a way where I can see your games? I would love to see you play chess at some point!
Haven't finished watching yet, but When you 7'd out two times in a row around 14 minutes on, did you consider dropping 1 more ore and keep 3 sheep so you could port for wheat and buy a dev (I think maybe even 2, giving you knights and army earlier)? edit...you got good rolls an orbit later so didn't matter I guess...
This was mentioned by a few people. In hindsight it was most likely the better play from a probability standpoint. I wasn’t entirely sure if I survived another turn.
I think you were too harsh with orange about his picks. He had wheat port and the two best wheat, that seems like a viable strat. Purely unclucky that the 8 never rolled.
Disagree with your assessment on Orange at the end - 'waiting for the 8s' is not only a viable strategy but arguably the best strategy, because in Catan you are always waiting for something to show up with the dice. I'd rather bet my game on the 8s showing up than the 3s. With that being said great game, you might've had it if Black hadn't ragequit.
The point is that they don’t have a viable path towards army or road, which means they need to build to 10 BEFORE someone else wins with a stronger win con. It’s also not guaranteed they will get the port… which means not only does your game hinge on 8s, but it’s also dependent on you getting a specific port. The risk for reward isn’t there… sure you can make the case that 8s didn’t show here but you can easily kill that engine with a single block on either 8. It’s too inflexible with too many things that can go wrong.
@@dandydrew Ya to clarify: I disagreed more with the idea that it's bad to take coordinated numbers because then you're 'waiting for the dice to roll your way'. I agree that he could've taken a more balanced setup that would've given him better winning chances, but I don't think his pick was bad. He just got insanely unlucky, which happens sometimes. Regardless, really good try and it's always interesting to see these kinds of videos where you're playing from behind and need to make the best of a bad situation!
Loved the game, but didn't you tell orange at 11:06 to trade you the sheep and you would trade it back when you had it and then you completely ignored him?
I feel bad for orange, I've been there. It's why I tend to steer away from those placements cuz if they hit, you dominate, but if they don't, your screwed.
Instead of pulling towards the end (you got the knight) you totally should have double roaded to give yourself a settle spot. That literally would've won you the game in hindsight

I agree. Esp since red was out of settlement spots.
For sure. I was thinking the same thing there. 2 roads and plenty of production for the settlement. Wouldve been the win
I agree and he actually got the rolls for a settle after the rotation if he would've dropped the roads he would've won
road road settle might have been better but was it confirmed that reds devs weren't VPs? he coulda been at 9 with winning rolls if he got ore
@@piepie3295 yeah that’s true - I have to rewatch to see if the guy gave any hints; I think red was saying he didn’t have it or something
Good vid, tough game. Wondering about the decision not to drop two roads to plan for the settle. But, eh it happens. Keep it goin👍🏼

Completely fair. It will be done for future recordings

at 14 i woulde threw away 1 ore and trade 2 sheep to dev you think is better or worse?(without hindsight i mean)
Thanks DaD for the video before my long car ride and family trip

17:21 You needed to road road to the brick port. If you did that instead of popping, next turn you'd have 6 sheep 1 wheat 1 brick with an open settle.
Great game! Thought you were screwed when everyone was up 2 settles on you
the baby Drew lol
with the new DAD series, this would be the nerdiest catan baby reveal

At 17:25, why did you pop instead of building 2 roads to the brick port? A 6 paired with any 3 8 11 10 would be winning.

You should show your rank before and after the vid so that we can follow along with the ladder climb!

Some of the grossest dice stats ever
Cities and knights expansion video please 😎
You seem obsessed with 963 spots (multiple examples) even when it isn’t the best option.
Absolutely nothing wrong with 693 here.
