I too have the situation you describe but have travelled to India from several countries with only my new passport and have never had a problem. However, you make a very valid point, thank you. I will now have to find the passport that was initially registered. It is easier to carry it around and not use it rather than being refused travel. In India there will not be a problem as the new passport number is registered in the system.

India should stop issuing OCI to ex citizens and should treat all foreign citizens as foreign citizens like how an Indian passport holders are treated to countries where Indian passport holders has to follow the visa procedure. So Indian should revoke the facility of OCI facilities for non citizens. Jai Hind.

Printing Passport details on OCI card was NOT complete thought out process, and hence resulted in this kinds of confusion for people. No country in world ask to carry old passport. this is such a hassel to keep old passport just for the sake of ID. Govt of India should send Sticker OR ask passport and patch new sticker. Make process easy and streamline. Thanks @Ripal Shah for sharing your valuable experience.

Definitely we will write to MFA to revoke an stop issuing OCI cards for non citizens. let them be the citizens of which ever country they got their passports from. But come to India as a foreigner.

Wish I have watched this video before. Yesterday my wife got challenged by the airline at Heathrow airport to show her old passport which had OCI stamp! Luckily they accepted a copy from WhatsApp of the old passport

Can you please answer this question no matter what age you are you do not need to update your new passport details on the miseclenus services and you can travel to India without updating new passport details as long as you hold your old passport that has the oci visa on along with the oci booklet that matches your old passport number. Please clear this as i thought you need to always update your new passport details each time you renew your new passport from the ages of 1 to 20 and once after the age of 50. Thanks.

I had the same incident. No body asked USA to India-Delhi.(OLD Passport number on OCI-while having New passport in hand only).When we were coming back-Immigration asked me for old passport. I told him-I have updated in OCI website-I already had the file number and date slip attached to OCI, he went to ask his superior, came back and ask me next time have old passport. I explained him-I can't have old passport as its 3rd passport, next year it will be 4th.OCI website specifically said just update your passport details in OCI website-your OCI is updated in immigration web site. I am definitely not going to carry Old Passport. Immigrations control must know that rule.

No it's not straightforward. You will need to have written documentation ie birth certificates that your grandparents were born there.

Please can you throw some light on OCI card holder. Can OCI card holder register with state government PWD and if it is possible, can OCI card holder bid government tenders. As OCI card holder is on par with NRI in terms of business but cannot occupy government jobs and vote in any elections.
