Thank you so much for this demonstration . I am Shotokan practitioner for decades and an avid fan and follower of the late Karate Master Hirokazo Kanasawa.
I recall sensei Kanazawa many years ago at a black belt gathering during which he demonstrated remarkable power, control, quite obvious inner and psychological calm, all borne out of many years of dedicated practice. His ability to tension one side of his abdominal muscles was frankly astonishing.
@@Chrismw81 By *"crescent steps"* do you mean the stance *"Hangetsu Dachi"* that's used in the Kata ? It's not common. It's a stance specially used for the Hangetsu Kata, hence the name *Hangetsu Dachi* , the *Half - Moon Stance*

So at start he blocks the. Counters but his range is terrible. His punch is fully extended but it barely reaches the target. The distance between him at the attacker is far too generous so I can only think that this all only applies to sport karate and not real world encounters
