    Another couple months worth of jazz guitar lessons packed into a Jens UA-cam post. Three things stood out - one - first time I have seen Richard Peña - and WoW what an introduction - that was a sweet gem of a lesson, two - I took lessons from Quist for about 18 months and he made more transformation in my playing than any teacher in my life, and three - it's so generous of you, Jens, to share other teacher's approaches. It's quite the community of cool, helpful people.
    All of your colleagues get a standing ovation. Thank you. 👏👏👏

    The first item to be noted is Jens genuine interest in helping us become better players. Second, we see he is generous and has an open mind. I only know of two of the collaborators in this piece, but saw some topics of interest. Something tells me Jens isn't outdoors very often. Nature and fresh air help keep us grounded. An occasional hike through the woods can be very refreshing!

      @@JensLarsen Not surprising. I gave some thought to Denmark and the Netherlands and realized I don't know much about either country. Western history books contain scant information on them, and I never see either on international news. You, on the other hand, likely hear about the mass shootings and other insanity in the US on a near daily basis. The US, however, has many great forests, big and small.

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  Рік тому

      @@danqodusk8140 Denmark has much more space than the Netherlands. It is bigger and about a third of the population. I do indeed hear a lot of stuff about the US, but I also hear about what happens here, and we have our own brand of nonsense as well.

    All great stuff Jens and in good order. You show clips of you playing live with bands. Are there any full videos on YT?

      There is a playlist on my channel, but generally I don't post that because people don't want to watch it so it is bad for the channel.

    Great content as always Jens, thanks to everyone involved. I would suggest Robbie Barnby as a future channel to link up with, I think you will like the content he posts.

    One technique that I "stumbled upon" early on in my jazz gigging days was to simply "finger" a standard chord voicing "that I already knew" and then just "play the highest notes of the chord" with my middle, ring and pinkie fingers. Sometimes, I would set the guitar pick on my music stand and use my index, middle and ring fingers for comping when there were many soloists. This "accidental hack" allowed me to comp in a relatively easy way and stay out of the sonic range of the bass player.
