    Tony Hawk has had the biggest impact on skating as anyone. He's been nothing but a professional for the past 40 years. Alway's 100 percent a great face for the sport. His video game actually changed skating with kids being able to visualize things in a virtual space that they could then go try for real. And if people think he's alway's had millions of dollars and has alway's been on top, think again. He went through hard times in the 90's getting Birdhouse off the ground and would do demos for nearly nothing to small crowds in the lean times. Whatever Tony has currently, he has worked his ass off to get. Great episode Nine Club.

    As a long time skater, surfer, snowboarder and windsurfer, I've got huge respect for Tony; not especially for his amazing skating, but for what he's done for the sport overall. This shows what can happen when parents get behind there kids 100%.

    The Huck jam was so nuts. I went as a kid and I had all black fallen shoes. We were in the front and all the dudes would give us high fives after there runs and sigh stuff. So I had everyone sigh my shoes and when Tony came up he didn't wanna sign the black shoes because he couldn't see the other signatures so he took a paper out of his pocket that was sweaty as hell and signed it for me. I still have the paper and it has the layout for the ramps on what parts of the paper are still readable. One of my prised possessions for sure.

      He gave his life to skateboarding through sheer hard work. He never gave up on skating when the jocks were spinning him around in the air and calling him skater fag. Never gave up when skateboarding tanked, and to the contrary started Birdhouse . Never gave up when Duane Peters and others would spit on him while he would be doing his run. Never gave up when they hammered him with accusations of Nepotism because his dad Frank helped organize the events. He NEVER gave up on skateboarding and skaters should genuflect when meeting Birdman cuz that dude literally gambled his life on this thing we enjoy

    This was such a joy to watch. Tony Hawk gets the recognition he deserves but I still think he deserves more credit than he gets. He changed my life and lifestyle from when I was a child and I can’t thank him enough for doing the things he did. I literally grew up with his video games and they saved my life in those cold NYC winter months when that was the closest I could get to skating, not to mention the music he brought us. I became a bassist because of hearing Primus in THPS 1!!! Thank you Tony, thank you Nine Club, thank you skateboarding. Can’t wait for episode 900 when he returns!

    It's just weird that Tony's halfpipe has lived longer than his Powell sponsorship did. Timelines get odd the older you get, and that's a well built ramp.

    • @samuelheart3489
      @samuelheart3489 6 років тому +3

      Tyler Durden ... guess what... the ramp is constantly maintained ;)
      It could be 100000 years and it would be as new. There is literally nothing on there that is from day 1

    • @tylerdurden6882
      @tylerdurden6882 6 років тому +1

      and yet it is now too slippery for certain tricks. it's not maintained a the rate you think it is, you can see how old the skatelite is as there are clips posted there damn near everyday by the people who regularly session there. skatelite is nearly too durable for its own good when kept indoors. and if you think every piece of the metal skeleton has been replaced, you're straight nuts.

    • @buckodonnghaile4309
      @buckodonnghaile4309 6 років тому

      Tyler Durden this might sound like a stupid question but does skatelite get more slippery with age and use? Ive never skated on it, just masonite and plywood.

    • @tylerdurden6882
      @tylerdurden6882 6 років тому +3

      You know how masonite starts out almost feeling soft to the touch with a kind of fuzz that gets worn down quickly? I think just after years of use the skatelite surface gets kind of polished smoother and smoother, kind of burnished. Plus all of the built up and worked in dust, urethane, plastic from kneepads, etc. It's a more solid surface than masonite is from the start and much more durable, so it probably continually gets harder and slicker over time. But I've never skated on any as old as what's on Tony's ramp.

    Coming back to the video that started me on my Nine Club journey. Thank you Tony for the linkup and thank you to Chris, Rog and Kelly for reminding us of, and reintroducing us to such a wide variety of skaters and filmmakers, with so many great stories and personalities in each video, they are all a pleasure to watch, listen to and learn from, with more than a few laughs along the way! 👍👍 Top Notch

    I love how he went out of his way to squash the notion of the mega ramp 1080 “not counting” - he did that with class and humility. Really gained more respect for him when he said it.

    Tony you’re a really good human bro. Thank you.
    You saved my life you just don’t know it but you affected my life.
    Thank you.
    My biggest appologies for being negative about you in the late 80,s I was part of that negativity and I feel bad about it but it was just my inner turmoil and lack of self confidence and I took it out on guys like you and Scheckler. I feel like a child when I think about it immature and self-centered I have grown since then being that I’m 51 and taking care of my own problems in life, but I just wanted to pass on my humble apologies and to say that you are an amazing inspiration in my life and so many others, dude .
    I’m so glad you had the inner strength and foresight to see past all the negativity. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have a certain amount of something you love say terrible things about you.
    I know you already know this, but you are a very strong person and I look up to you even at the ripe age ( still skating your parks in Atlanta ) of 51 and I’m having so much fun doing it and it’s keeping me healthy and I try and pass it on to the young dudes .
    Thank you again for all you have done for us collectively as skateboards Society and as an individual in me .
    Big love and respect to you you and so many others for helping change lives.
    I have an identity and it’s wrapped up in skateboarding as it always has and always will be and you are a huge part of that equation.
    Thanks Tony and all those who put their blood sweat and tears into this thing we call SKATING ❤
    PEACE N LOVE

    One of my favourite because it's my first one episode I watched "The 100" one! And I never stop to watched your channel since then and discovery that I was somewhere a skate interest because of you ;-)! It's a really cool channel "The Nine Club" with a good humour and skate culture! Thank you Chris for your special tag line ;-) and his team! Big up from Belgium!

      Gator ripped for sure. Dude had so much natural ability and style, but he deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life. His place in skating deserves to be recognized though.

      Manmelt I don't know. The dude confessed and he's certainly bi polar. 30 years in prison seems long enough to me. Confessing your crimes and being sorry is the first step and he did that 25 years ago.
