This is why so many of us were distraught by his death. I was 10 at the time of this performance, and he'd been in our lives forever providing exceptional music and joy. R.I.P. Michael... we miss you!
The world mourned so much because his music evoked memories in *ALL* generations. Literally everyone in 80s was a fan and so, a lot of memories come with his music. The entire world stopped it was insane.

I still believe that the Jackson Five was underrated as a band. In these early songs you see how well the entire group performs. My favorite Jackson Five song is Maybe Tomorrow.
I’ve been to three of his concerts. One was The Jackson’s Victory tour with all of the brothers and Michael. And two of his solo tours. Bad and Dangerous. And it’s impossible to describe to you how it was to be there. It was electric. It was alive! It was unmatched by any concerts I’ve ever been to before or after. And yes a lot of girls and guts passed out. He will forever remain not only my first crush but my favorite artist ever. There is and will never be another Michael Jackson.
@Ruebz_f30 why u think theyre all so perfect and well choreographed n sound like a studio recording at 10 yrs old? Why u think they call him "joseph" and not dad? He beat them till they got it perfect then made them perform and use the money to get outta Gary
this is what I grew up with. Michael Jackson was exactly 2 weeks older than me. His birthday is August 29th 1958 and mine is September 12th 1958. It was amazing to me growing up knowing he was my age and was so talented.
Michael is the youngest in the group, he was 10 years old. The 2nd youngest is Marlon Jackson, the other little guy, he was 11 years old. The guy on the end playing the guitar and singing is Jermaine Jackson, he was 14 years old, the guy on the other end with the guitar is Tito Jackson, he was 16 years old, and the tall guy in the middle is Jackie Jackson, he is the oldest in the group, he was 18 years old.
Michael Jackson was my first celebrity crush. I was blessed to see the Jackson 5 perform live in 1974 &1975 at the Circle Star theater in San Carlos CA.
Funny Enough Who Lovin You is Smokey Robinson song, but people forget, so every time he performs, it they say i didn't know you sing Michael Jackson song.
I’m very fortunate to have seen the Jackson Five every time they played in Chicago and Michael Jackson when he first went solo. I’ve been to every concert up to the Victory Tour in 1984. Imagine seeing them perform from 1970-1984. Unbelievable talent and showmanship!

I saw them in concert for the first time after ten years of watching them perform on television variety shows on May 4th 1979 at the Sunrise Musical Theatre in Sunshine FL. I was in the USAF stationed about forty miles from the venue. I went early to hopefully catch them doing a sound check, but that didn’t happen but l was able to be in the back of the theater when they arrived. It was me, them and the limousine driver. This was before smart phones so l wasn’t able to get a picture and l didn’t have an autograph book, so all l am left with is the memories.
Michael was the youngest of the group. The other little one is Marlon who was about a year older than Michael. In total there were 9 Jackson children, Michael was the 7th of the 9 and they had another brother named Randy who was 3 years younger than Michael who would join group a few short years later. And Janet Jackson was the baby of the family.
I’ve been to an MJ concert. In Melbourne Australia on his world wide History tour. It was out of this world. I’m forever grateful to have been able to see him live. RIP MJ❤️

I remember watching this on our enormous 13 inch console TV! We were so proud. Everyone understood just Iconic and special Michael was! Everyone also wanted that purple hat! 😊😊😊😊😊
Mind boggling good. MJ was about 10 months younger than me. I was doing my homework, playing ball and riding my bike. He was on TV and the radio. AMAZING. The whole world fell in love with this talented family. Most of all Michael. One of a kind. Gone too soon.
I am so glad l was able to see Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five from the start in 1969. The only kids in history who were able to watch themselves on their own Saturday morning cartoon.
A little more of the back story, I was a couple years younger than Michael, this was in 1969 and we had just come out of a *TERRIBLE* political decade with the assassination of a president, JFK’s brother, Malcolm X, Dr. King and we were still struggling through really bad racial strife. Then came the Jackson 5!! They brought a lot of joy, fun, good vibes, dancing and wonderful energy to a tired nation! They were also the first black teen idols! *EVERYONE* LOOOOVED the Jackson 5!! I think they really helped bring the country together in their own way! :) To debut on the nationally famous Ed Sullivan Show and then rattle off *YEARS* of #1 hits in the 70s, and then for Michael to become *MICHAEL* in the 80s was a really interesting period.
Great reaction!! Love to go through the MJ journey with you guys! I was blessed to see him live in Buenos Aires in 1993 on his Dangerous tour! I did not know who he was, but the moment he jumped into the stage I fall in love with him! To see him live, to feel his presence, his energy! There are no words to explain that feeling! Love MJ since that day and forever will! ❤
I was lucky to see him twice in Auckland New Zealand in 1996. It was the History Tour and he was phenomenal. Nothing disappointed. He was full on from start to finish. All the known song specific choreography -even the Smooth Criminal lean, as well as the signature dance moves and poses. So glad I saw him.
I was 10 years old back in 1978 when the Jacksons performed on the island of Trinidad 🇹🇹.I had to beg my parents to take me to the show;that was the first concert i have ever been to.They were in my opinion one of the biggest performers to our island during the 1970s
I had no idea there were adults that havent heard these songs. My brother used to listen to who’s loving you when he broke up with his hs gf when i was a kid back in the 90s. These songs were in heavy rotation decades after they came out. I was born 20 years after abc was released and i still know every word

So loved you two reactions to this amazing performer performance. I remember watching this in real time as a little girl. My whole family gathered in front of our t.v. to see the Jackson 5 first appearance on the the Ed Sullivan show. We were already jamming to his records in amazement before this. Everyone knew Michael was special and he and his brothers was going to be super stars one day in their own right with Motown backing them. So, we wanting to enjoy the Jackson 5 as much as possible before the whole world celebrated them. Unfortunately, when they came to my city during this time I was too young to go see them in concert, it was a big deal, everyone just knew...probably not to the highs Michael reached, no one knew or could image.
This was great! The Jacksons are a seriously talented family! Don't sleep on Janet either! She's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her brothers!
Loved y'all's reaction. I grew up on the J5. Michael was 4 years older than me, so he was my childhood crush. And my sisters, cousins, and friends, even though we're all girls, would be the Jackson 5, dance moves and all 🙂. So much fun. Glad y'all liked them.
I was just speaking on that not too long ago....he gave them so much pressure that I believe that's why he was such a perfectionist at what he did and always had to be perfect which is why we ended up getting Off The Wall and so on.
@@TerranceEdwards-mj5zq Do you actually realise the extent of his controlling behaviour over not just MJ but all of them growing up ? I would rather MJ would have actually had a happy childhood without all that and if he would have made it with his brothers to become famous great and in turn turn out without the psychological bull their father inflicted on them. But otherwise no, I don't think anyone should be grateful for that at any cost to the person/ people involved.
I got to see Michael in 1996 in Auckland, New Zealand at the History Tour, I went with my dad and my little brother and it was one of the best nights of my life, I'll never forget it! Sweet video btw, it's always nice to see others who appreciate how gifted Michael was, RIP the King of Pop and the Greatest Entertainer who ever lived!!
Michael was 11 years old in this performance. This Ed Sullivan performance was their debut which aired in December of 1969. Michael was born in August of 1958.
Hi from Germany 🙋♀(new Subscr.) Great reaction !! I am 65 y. old & I grew up with them. Later I`ve seen Michael twice in Germany ( Frankfurt & Hockenheim) I`ll never forget that !
From right to left you have Jermaine (lead vocals and Bass) Michael (lead vocals) Jackie (eldest and backup vocals) Marlon (backup vocals) and Tito ( backup vocals and guitar). The go Jackson line up. Randy came along later.
Those of us who grew up with J5 hate the way he went out but there was simply no other young talent like that.....ever. His album "Off the Wall " (to me) is still his best!
Jackson 5 performing “There Was A Time” on American Bandstand is another great one. Every single one of them stands out here, from the singing to dancing, instruments, everything is amazing and just naturally magical.
I had the pleasure of seeing MJ during the BAD tour. You two are right, if the video moved you, seeing him live…. Takes it to another level. You need to react to Forever Came Today from the Carol Burnette show. Amazing choreography!!!!
You two should listen to the original version of "Stand!" written by Sly Stone and performaned by his band Sly & the Family Stone. You should check out some of the bands other songs too such as "Family Affair", "Everyday People", "I Want to Take You Higher", "Hot Fun in the Summertime", "Sing a Simple Song" and "Dance to the Music". There are other songs that are in the band's catalog that are great too, but those are few to get you started in addition to checking out "Stand!".
You should check out Muhammad Ali having a go at Sly Stone for being a bad druggy & an unsuitable role model for black kids on some 70's chat show (think it might be The Dick Cavette Show)
The Greatest child artist of all time, greatest entertainer of all time. no one can touch this dude, just something else. on a side note Stokely from mint edition kinda moves like lil Michael in that who's loving u bit, little observation there.lol
Jermaine also has several hits of his own. Back in 1980 him and Michael had the #1 & #2 song of the year, with Jermaine edging Michael for the top spot. His song "Let's get serious" was #1 for 6 weeks. Michael had "Rock with you." #1 for 6 as well.
MJ was a born superstar entertainer. Saw his Victory Tour in the 80’s…fabulous! Who’s Loving You is a Smokey Robinson song. This was the unbelievable music we grew up with. The ages of the original members of the Jackson 5, from oldest to youngest, are: Jackie: Born in 1951 Tito: Born in 1953 and died in 2024 Jermaine: Born in 1954 Marlon: Born in 1957 Michael: Born in 1958 and died in 2009 ❤❤
Glad i came across this video. As a LIFER of an MJ fan….you guys feeling this….the Jackson 5 (J5) era, The Jacksons Era, The Off The Wall Era, The Thriller Era, The Bad Era, The Dangerous Era, The HIStory Era, The Invincible Era to his passing…. If u need specific suggestions, I’d gladly send some of other MJ fans will def point u in the right direction. Enjoy!!
The other "main" singer is Jermaine Jackson. He had a nice solo career when he sliit from the J5. I went to a J5 concert that included the 5 brothers plus Rand and Janet.
Yes I have I of his first concert it was as advertised and more and it was grown women passing out as well teenagers I have done alot things seen alot of things and Nothing comes close to mike his presence his orr at my age i was 1yr younger than mike and he caught my attention and wouldn't let it go truly amazing best ever not even close
Before Motown they performed on the chitin circuit. They’d open for James brown, Motown acts, Jackie Wilson. Those shows sometimes required them to perform 5 shows a night. At the Apollo they performed 5 shows a day for 5 days. They were professionals
I'm a couple years older than Michael. I remember this ed Sullivan show. I knew Michael Jackson was special but you're correct that nobody knew the impact he would have on music and the phenomenon he would become. And the legend he would become. There aren't many you can compare to Michael. Elvis, the Beatles and that's about it.
y'all should react to Motown 25 from 1983 the Jackson 5 reunited after 8 years to perform these same songs plus MJ does a solo performance of billie jean afterwards. the billie jean performance is the reason why his thriller album is the best selling album in the world and 2nd best selling album in America
Some people thought of Micheal having a second mortality, especially when he sung that song as if he knew exactly what he was singing about like an old soul.
I attended a Jackson Five Concert when I was about twelve years old. It was the most amazing concert I had ever been to. What I found weird was that there were grown women acting out like teenagers. What I did not know was that Micheal was going to be globally iconic. That is why it is so important to enjoy each moment because you never know if the moment you are living will be the best of all time until the time comes when you will realize it was!
music of today is too samey. still some top songs etc but mj doing a moonwalk even during dangerous was like, mad insane, because there was no reference to go look it up. You could go to a library or hope a concert would be on tv or on video, nowadays we have access to literally everything and everyone. I cannot stress how alien-like a moonwalk seemed in the 80s, in the uk we had 4 tv channels,bbc1,bb2,itv.ch4. only people with money could afford a vhs tape recorder. mj seemed other worldly!
Love y’alls reaction to this video. Y’all have to react to the full Jackson 5 & Michael Jackson Motown 25 performance in 4K. it consists of the Jackson 5 performing a medley and Michael performing “Billie Jean”! It’s the performance that put MJ on the map and where he debuted his iconic moonwalk for the very first time! would love to see your guy’s reaction to that!
You know how artists today have Hives? Like Taylor Swift has the "Swifties". Beyonce has the "Bey-Hive". Rihanna has the "Navy". MJ didn't have or need a hive because most of the humans on earth was his hive lol. They used to premiere his music videos on channels that didn't even play music. Thats how big he was.

I was just speaking on that not too long ago....he gave them so much pressure that I believe that's why he was such a perfectionist at what he did and always had to be perfect which is why we ended up getting Off The Wall and so on.
🙄
He forced them but I'm grateful that he did if it wasn't for joe we probably wouldn't ever heard of mj
My first concert was an MJ one in ‘88. We sat behind his stage at the Forum in LA, he had that silver get up. And I remember it vividly to this day.
I saw him twice 😊 dangerous tour and history it was legendary the anticipation of him coming onto stage my heart was coming out of my chest !
Michael is 9 years old in this performance... his talent was off the charts off the charts! 💔
Michael was 11 years old in this performance. This Ed Sullivan performance was their debut which aired in December of 1969. Michael was born in August of 1958.
Real talk! MJ was the man 😊
Hi from Germany 🙋♀(new Subscr.) Great reaction !!
I am 65 y. old & I grew up with them. Later I`ve seen Michael twice in Germany
( Frankfurt & Hockenheim) I`ll never forget that !
My childhood! Was the best ! ❤❤❤
Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael!
Tito and Jermaine was playing the guitars.
Back when you needed actual talent to be on television.
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
🎙️🎯
From right to left you have Jermaine (lead vocals and Bass) Michael (lead vocals) Jackie (eldest and backup vocals) Marlon (backup vocals) and Tito ( backup vocals and guitar). The go Jackson line up. Randy came along later.
Those of us who grew up with J5 hate the way he went out but there was simply no other young talent like that.....ever.
His album "Off the Wall " (to me) is still his best!
I saw this on Ed Sullivan when I was a kid and was speechless.
Jackson 5 performing “There Was A Time” on American Bandstand is another great one. Every single one of them stands out here, from the singing to dancing, instruments, everything is amazing and just naturally magical.

Bands of today use auto tune. This is pure talent
You should check out Muhammad Ali having a go at Sly Stone for being a bad druggy & an unsuitable role model for black kids on some 70's chat show (think it might be The Dick Cavette Show)
And looking at the likes of Sly Stone as kid made me not want to drugs. See how that goes. What's your point?
The Greatest child artist of all time, greatest entertainer of all time. no one can touch this dude, just something else. on a side note Stokely from mint edition kinda moves like lil Michael in that who's loving u bit, little observation there.lol
Back when music had soul.
And you actually had soul singers who sang beautifully with emotion.
And ur name is Paul Williams ❤I love it. He’s my favorite Temptation
This was on the R&B charts, to be clear.
So glad young people are still interested in REAL music 😉😉🙂🙂
MJ was a born superstar entertainer. Saw his Victory Tour in the 80’s…fabulous!
Who’s Loving You is a Smokey Robinson song. This was the unbelievable music we grew up with.
The ages of the original members of the Jackson 5, from oldest to youngest, are:
Jackie: Born in 1951
Tito: Born in 1953 and died in 2024
Jermaine: Born in 1954
Marlon: Born in 1957
Michael: Born in 1958 and died in 2009
❤❤
If you look at live concert footage from his kid era, you can hear that they do sound like the record live. They were so hard working kids
There will never ever be another Michael Jackson. Rest in Heaven Mr.Jackson 🙏🏽🕊❤️💔😥💐
It's rare to hear a 10 yr old sing in key always amazes
Yall should react to their Motown audition! It’s amazing!!
The king of music ❤
y'all should react to Motown 25 from 1983 the Jackson 5 reunited after 8 years to perform these same songs plus MJ does a solo performance of billie jean afterwards. the billie jean performance is the reason why his thriller album is the best selling album in the world and 2nd best selling album in America
If you haven't ever heard it, En Vogue redoes the "When I" part at the beginning of their 1989 hit Hold On!
Time Waits For No One is probably one of the most under rated Jacksons hit. Its off of the Triumph album in 1980 Michael was 21 or 22
Barry Gordy didn't want to sign them because he Already had little Stevie Wonder
THIS is why I laugh when Drake fans compare him to MJ🤣
I mean Drake compares himself to him in his songs and that’s fucking hilarious 😂😂
#Blasphemy
music of today is too samey. still some top songs etc but mj doing a moonwalk even during dangerous was like, mad insane, because there was no reference to go look it up.
@@BelfastManUtdTherapy dude was pure magic, with infinite kindness. Too bad the world couldn’t understand and appreciate this until it was too late
You can't compare greatness with mediocrity.. Auto tune with raw talent🙄.What an insult.
My mom loves Jermaine. She's a huge fan in general but she has always followed his career and read his book.
Yeah he could sing, but the pure Charisma Michael possessed still cannot be beat.
