The scary part is the stuff that wasn't on video. I remember skating EMB and the pier back in 91-92 and he was doing tre flips out from tailslides and stuff like varial heels into 5-0 grinds. And this was in 1991!!! Like a year before Pack of Lies!! Like everyone knows about Pack of Lies and whatnot but, oh my God, the stuff he did when the cameras weren't on was just insane!!

The “Skater’s Favorite Skater” of the early 90’s. Henry Sanchez was THE dude. His influence was and is still being felt (AVE’s favorite skater). Fucking legend.
This is my first time seeing Henry Sanchez the person as opposed to the seminal skateboarder whose name always pops up when people talk about the pioneers of street skating. This guy is so genuine, one of my favorite guests.
I was in actual shock when I saw you finally got Sanch! He definitely needs some full time sponsors. Such great stories.. I had no idea about the Koston/Carroll thing.

I'm 40 and started skating in 1994. I know what they mean with the newer guys. The level of skating now is just insane and everyone who's sponsored is amazing and unbelievable, but I prefer watching all the old videos over the new ones. Pat Duffy''s new Plan B part got me so pumped.
I remember skating in the mid 90s watching certain parts and being able to duplicate lines trick for trick that some of these guys were doing. That shit ain't happening these days. Its another ball game.
I remember Ocean Howell showing up in the middle of YMCA Visalia with Pack of Lies, which had just come out that week. Jeron had been there with the Real team as their newest am but I'm not sure whether they were there that night. We all watched POL probably 15 times in a row in the mess hall and kids couldn't believe what they were seeing. I watched everything Henry did when he'd show up at Embarco, and I didn't know how to explain to these people that as good as that footage was, he was already advancing beyond it. Absolutely insane how far ahead of the curve he was. I don't think I've ever sen the Nine Club guys as nervous and geeking out as much they are here.
Ocean was a favourite of mine. From H Street vids, and risk it etc. Once I was stood in a queue at kiosk outside Northampton comp England in mid 90s. Was just thinking bout how all these Japanese and Brazilian kids completely destroying everything now… how they musta got sparked by their local OG’s, and how those OG’s guarantee got hyped off of Henry Sanchez and the whole SF early 90’s scene through magazines and VHS back in the day. Henry and those dudes paved out modern tech skating and changed the world man. True legend.
Legendary episode. Sanch is Guy Mariano level important in street skating, he’s one of the best of all time and everyone knows it. Even his sight unseen part was innovative. I wonder if it was Rocco who told him to get Koston
@@From96TilDeath yeah, you're right. Someone (I think it was Danny Way) said Rocco was always behind the schemes at World, even if he wasn't directly taking part.

This was so great! Thank you The Nine Club as always! I just tagged both you and Henry on a old blind board video on instagram. Living in a small town video showed me what could be done on a board. I still have my Blind Henry Sanchez Bucket Boy board. I remember watching tim and henrys pack of lies and seeing the switch flip to noseslide and I literally tried and tried for days until I got one. I love that he still remembers his inspiration for landing a hard trick back when he was still a kid was his homie buying him a cold soda. Money was so scarce I never had loose change to buy food or drinks but that didnt stop me from leaving the house and skating for 10 hours plus in the neighborhood w the rest of the gang. Having a buddy you could hit the garden hose was nice but a cold soda on a hot summer day was a game changer..
This episode is amazing from start to finish!!! Henry is a living legend and was always stoked watching him in his video parts. Mad respect to nineclub for doing this show and sharing all these amazing stories about skateboard culture
Grew up skating EMB, pier 7, and all the sf spots every weekend taking the train to sf when I was a young buck always seeing Sanchez, York, Karl Watson were always nice even to me a young kid letting me get in my turn on the spots.
OH DAMN! Crail please put Henry on so we can see what he can do. As someone in their 40s I love seeing 40 year old pros ripping street... Look at Guy, Chico etc ripping. Skating is aging gracefully and is no longer about 16 year olds. Generations deserve generational heroes. I get 100% more out of watching a 45 year old kickflip on flat than a 22 year hard flip down a 15 set.
I was 14 when Sight Unseen came out. Everything about Henry’s part was light years ahead of its time. The 3rd and Army lines to this day are incredible (tre flip 5-0, manny varial heel, Nollie flip front tail) and the classic bangin Inward Heel off the loading dock 🤯 “Neva forget where you came from!”
I was on tour with Henry. He was an amazing skateboarder and absolutely loved his video parts and then to be on tour with him many years ago as part of a faze 7 tour of the UK that they organised with Alvin Singfield was in charge and changed my mind of him totally. It was a classic case of never meet you hero's. He was the most demanding obnoxious diva ive ever met. He treated Alvin like a piece of shit and generally acted like a spoilt child for the whole trip. I just sat there in the back in complete shock and that experience never left me because I was gutted that the guy I looked up to as an amazing skateboarder (which he is) could be so nasty to someone I respected a lot. That Tim & Henry video was one of the best videos ive ever seen still to this day. I guess we've all grown up now but unfortunately my first encounter with him was such a negative experience. Apart from that I wish him all the best.
Sure he would feel bad about it now. Think about it, his ego would of been out of control from a young age with a bunch of 'enablers' the same age around him. No excuse for that behavior though, ever...
Henry rules...... Big inspiration for im 46 also and just bought a whole new set up do to a old friend hit me up and said bro we aint done yet..... i told him how funny i was just watching the nine club with henry and was like yep i got something to show still....
90’s skateboarding was so good and Henry definitely made a huge impact with his fast, tech skating-NBD’s. Too bad about the Girl thing, but like he said, it’s motivating him now which is so sick! I’m 46 now with 2 kids and a full time job for the past 27 years and he’s inspiring me to get on my board (about 10-15 sessions for me in the past 8 years). Keep ripping Henry🤘
David Bowie was asked, "You manage your own corporation at this point of your career, doesn't being a business man get in the way of your art? In which he replied "No, I had to become a better BUSINESS man in order to become a better ARTIST" Now apply that model to Skating, who are the most successful skaters? This is a cautionary tale about making the right business decisions, Henry Sanchez could have been one of the all time greats, surpassing P-Rod, Koston, Mariano and Stevie, put together, let that sink in.
There's a lot of dudes coming back into skating, that could only wish to be that legendary! Street skating owes a lot to Henry Sanchez! He took it to another level like 3 decades ago!
A true humble legend, I went to s.f from u.k for a couple o months in the summer of 92' crazy vibes around the emb and the city in general, I remember vividly the Friday before the back to the city comp' when everyone rocked up to the emb with these girl tees.....mad times/city ..shoutz to Sanchez!!
The 90’s. Amazing memories but so much attitude. I wish skaters were as supportive as they are today. My own “crew” were dicks to each other. Negative vibes all the time. But still the progression then and the brands, videos etc. amazing.
Yes! Thanks guys for coming though with Henry. I’ve been waiting for this episode since you guys started. Such a legend! Can’t wait to finish this one 🤙🏼
I think the same way as Jeron. It’s dope when someone ask you or you ask someone Els if they mode if you try the same trick and then you both work on it together and land it. Always fun.

That was awesome. Henry is the best. I'm definitely going to support any brand that he goes to
Super hyped on this one. Legend right here. Get chico on plz 🙏. Shot out Sac town!
We 💯 need a Chico episode!!
As someone in their 40s I love seeing
40 year old pros ripping street... Look at Guy, Chico etc ripping. Skating is aging gracefully and is no longer about 16 year olds. Generations deserve generational heroes. I get 100% more out of watching a 45 year old kickflip on flat than a 22 year hard flip down a 15 set.
1:16:06 “I’ll deliver man” 🥺 that shit got me
I was 14 when Sight Unseen came out. Everything about Henry’s part was light years ahead of its time. The 3rd and Army lines to this day are incredible (tre flip 5-0, manny varial heel, Nollie flip front tail) and the classic bangin Inward Heel off the loading dock 🤯
“Neva forget where you came from!”
I follow Henry on Facebook and Instagram, and the stuff he puts up is so good.
Just finished this one and really enjoyed it. I didn’t know this story and it was inspiring. I hope he gets on somewhere and we see more.
Milestone for the club and us. Thanks guys.
So so glad this finally happened henry is a for sure icon in the industry and still doing his thing...
58:36 The video he’s talking about is Quiet Storm (1991). Produced by Dave Schlossbach. The clip of him big spinning the 7 is in the video.
Carroll does a Tre flip the 7 too … love that video 💎💎
Hope someone sponsors him... Super OG and pioneer... Straight up legend!!!
It's so good that Henry got to talk about his life like this. It's healing for everyone...
Never to old to keep progressing and learning! Great interview
Jeron made it mad comfortable for henry good shit DUBZ.
Great episode! I really liked the energy between Jeron and Henry.
I'm new to the show but I love it when Jeron loosens up and let's the vocab flow like he does here. Henry Sanchez is a legend.
Thanks guys much appreciated!
EMB was the squad. Wing ding is grossly underrated. Shamile randle. Jake Vogel you can go even deeper.
Such and amazing skater. Got his DGK board on my wall 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🏻
Long overdue to get Kelch on The Nine Club. So many stories. So much personality. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
David Bowie was asked, "You manage your own corporation at this point of your career, doesn't being a business man get in the way of your art? In which he replied "No, I had to become a better BUSINESS man in order to become a better ARTIST"
Now apply that model to Skating, who are the most successful skaters? This is a cautionary tale about making the right business decisions, Henry Sanchez could have been one of the all time greats, surpassing P-Rod, Koston, Mariano and Stevie, put together, let that sink in.
100%
There's a lot of dudes coming back into skating, that could only wish to be that legendary! Street skating owes a lot to Henry Sanchez! He took it to another level like 3 decades ago!
A true humble legend, I went to s.f from u.k for a couple o months in the summer of 92' crazy vibes around the emb and the city in general, I remember vividly the Friday before the back to the city comp' when everyone rocked up to the emb with these girl tees.....mad times/city ..shoutz to Sanchez!!
Another great episode! So much love and support in this episode. Keep it rolling Henry, we're all rooting for you!
The 90’s. Amazing memories but so much attitude. I wish skaters were as supportive as they are today. My own “crew” were dicks to each other. Negative vibes all the time. But still the progression then and the brands, videos etc. amazing.
Was literally thinking the same thing.
I remember him in transworld skateboarding magazine. Then I meet a girl named Delilah Sanchez I said wow do you know Henry a awesome pro skateboarder.
What an episode !! Love and respect to Henry and all the og skaters still getting it to this day 🙌🔥
Yes! Thanks guys for coming though with Henry. I’ve been waiting for this episode since you guys started. Such a legend! Can’t wait to finish this one 🤙🏼
He's Henry, know what I'm saying...it's HENRY !!!
Legendary!! OG in a video with Cardiel, Heath, and Tosh! Neva Forget
Needed to hear this one, thanks
Dude’s a king, ahead of his time 👑
been waiting for years for this one
I think the same way as Jeron. It’s dope when someone ask you or you ask someone Els if they mode if you try the same trick and then you both work on it together and land it. Always fun.
This one brought me back to the nine club instantly..didnt watch the last one. But Henry for sure..maybe get his brother on next?
Ben!
@@nicolasbaker9601 yup lol loved his mouse part
Dirty?
Oh damn Ben's his brother? Makes perfect sense, I always thought they had similar posture on the board
“Riding a skateboard sets you up for adultery” lmao Jeron sorry but that was hilarious
Lol glad you caught that too
Seriously Socrates has to get all that footage he has and put it out as a archive video man so many of us would pay up $$ to see all that shit for real!
Been waiting for this one for forever !
Ever since seeing Sight Unseen when it came out Ive been a fan, Legend
It was unbelievable seeing Sanch skating Pier 7 in the late 90’s.
that'd be like seeing jimi hendrix at woodstock!
thoroughly enjoyed. Appreciate the honesty and don't know, the humble nature of Henry really is rad. As someone who grew up in Southern CA, "Henry Sanchez" was sorta a mythical figure of SF during those days of EMB.
Amazing episode !!!! I would love to see Henry’s name on a girl board .
I think that would have already happened.
@@denniss2900 I was talking more of a guest board.. a 1 off .
Truly great episode guys!
Wooo nice. Love you guys. I'm waiting for Arto even if he's gonna come on 20 years.
Incredible content. Thank you for show us some history with one of the best pioners.
They should just give Henry $1million dollars for everything he has done for skateboarding
Facts
Carroll should pay that😋
Super stoked is an understatement
The 9ine club, the show that has legends talking.
I’m rooting for this man. I still love watching his sight unseen part
this was awesome! love it!!!!
Best episode ever. Thank you the nine club with Chris Roberts
Absolute legend of the game. Great watch. I definitely shed a tear hearing about his downfall.
